Matthew, you are so correct. A year later Buddy Holly wrote and performed "That'll be the Day." I used to go around the house singing, "That Will Be the Day" when I make the honor roll. LOL!!
Memories of Cinema, thank you for sharing. I have the forever popular movie track of "The Searchers." John Wayne was excellent; Natalie Wood was wonderful in the movie. A year later in 1957, Buddy Holly wrote and sang "That Will Be the Day." I think this is very ironic.
This scene is the second time and much later in the movie that John Wayne used this [That'll Be The Day ] line. The Searchers first release date is May 16, 1956, most likely the script and filming was in 1956, earliest date I found for Buddy That'll Be The Day is Dec 1956, so I'm thinking John Wayne and who ever wrote that line was first. But it might of been a command saying back then, sure was after the song.......
First continuity error I have seen in this picture, having never noticed it prior. When Marty picks up the knife from the fire it is in his right hand. When the camera cuts to just Marty, it is in his left hand. Then back to his right when he throws it. Interesting.
This generation has no idea of this country's history... Good and bad. It's what makes us. This is a classic - like Sands of Iwo Jima, Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, Go for Broke. It's a depiction of history a la Hollywood.
In the begining of the movie Ethan does not like Martin because he is part indian. Now he pays him the respect of making him his sole heir, bequeathing him all of his property as though Martin is his son. In the end Martin's Indian blood is of no importance. Like Americans the men are bonded together by shared values and ideas.
And did anyone notice that Scar is played by a blue- eyed German immigrant? Which implies that Scar is either half White (like the historical Quannah Parker) or a former captive himself, like Debbie Evans or the historical Cynthia Anne Parker. Matin Pawley, part Cherokee, is Ethan's last kin, not in captivity. Ford's subtle commentary. (And Ford was Liberal/Leftest himself.)
John Ford was a classical liberal. The Democrat Party which he belonged to is so far removed from what the Democrat Party is today, might as well call him a conservative, which he was.
The movie is called "the searchers" and not "the rangers" or "the search". So, some are searching, but they may not all be seeking the same. At least he can read, wherefore the Bible, kjv, is not that far from him, as it may be for others, such as Debbie. .. when he shoots "the dead injun's" eyes out, he leaves behind a symbol of darkness, for without light, how will he find "the happy ground"? Truth is a light, by HEARING one sees.
Voltaire said, I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. ... but a problem arises, aside from Voltaire's Bastards who have nothing of substance to say ... your enemy may not afford you the same courtesy. "Yyackety yak, don't tawk balk".... I think that that was a song, and not merely unofficial government policy.
That's a very funny line .. because after you are born again.. you become, hard to kill. .. which is the title of a Steven Segal movie... A passage : Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? - John 11 : 25 - 26, kjv. Another passage : And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead. Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe. Acts 14 : 19 - 20, kjv.
And the light in Buddy Holly's head went on.
Matthew, you are so correct. A year later Buddy Holly wrote and performed "That'll be the Day." I used to go around the house singing, "That Will Be the Day" when I make the honor roll. LOL!!
That could have been from eating all that chili.
His greatest ever performance!

Buddy Holly saw this movie and wrote the song that will be the day after watching John Wayne say that
Pure, raw emotion from Martin.
One of the best movies ever made !!

Alex, he should have won. After losing the award for 'Best Actor,' he must have thought to himself, "That Will Be the Day." RIP John Wayne

Very dark character ethan Edwards. ..John Wayne's best performance he nailed it .
Buddy Holly saw this movie.
its literally where he got the line for the song, so yeah he was a fan of the movie and said so many times.
And on that one day in 1956 in Texas, the light inside Buddy Holly's mind turned on as he would make 'That'll Be The Day'.
Such a great movie!

kyokogodai Is that all you noticed about the continuity of this picture. Like where did all those Indians go that ran them in that cave.
@@ronniebishop2496 well that don't beat the camera swinging up at the battle at the river
And from that, Buddy Holly got his hit song!

Oh yeah, Hollywood are renowned for telling the truth
That'll be the day
🤠
Greatest Western ever.
Great film!
Big John was the spiritual twin of my dad Harry. All if my friends looked at him and came to that conclusion!
I died laughing at the guy running into the rock. And the part where he said "she's been living with a buck"
Michael Scricco There was nothing at all funny about the line John Wayne spoke.
TheRivrPrncess yes it was. Funny stuff

Try to find a leftist that agrees with you. I'll wait *crickets*
And Martin and Ethan, in the end, are separated by some.

I think he'd consider those fighting words (not that there are any other kind for an Irishman).
Pure Movie Magic!
How many times did he say thatll be the day in this movie.
Four I think.
The John & John the best
Well done.
You can hear the 45rpm "Mary Lou by The Creative Force " on utube
"Eso está por verse" así se dice en México
Big bopper, Richie vallens, buddy Holly left the bus fore the Skye's yeah sad.i nevare knew them
Good people's.
The one where John Wayne, after 25 years of trying, *finally* stopped playing John Wayne.🤠
'she's been living with a buck!!!'
Haha such a funny line in the movie
he says it a few times, btw

This was a great scene but John didn't believe in kissing hollywoods butt so he didn't get awards. Lol
sounds like king george vi speech

Some serious over acting here. LOL.
This movie is overrated, it just doesn't make sense
