Dev, adding bacteria to the tank is all good but even the bacteria need a food source so wouldn't it still be necessary to ghost feed the tank even a little? I find that there's not much mention of that in quick cycling vids and so it's kinda forgotten. Yeah you add bacteria but wouldn't they die off and decrease their numbers if a food source is scarece - like in a newly established tank? Great video. Am following your build.
Yes sir. I added fish the next day. On a brand new tank you would want to add fish within a day or two or add an ammonia source to keep that bacteria population alive it claims you can cycle a tank with a few days.. i say 0 cycle transferring it all with 100% new sand and a chunk of new rock mixed in.
The reason you don't hear it much in quick cycle videos in my opinion is because the ammonia is supplied off the fishes respiration cycle because most of the time they have fish added in minutes or days.
@@cmmcfielful Very True! Most people use these products to 'instant' cycle a tank.. Realistically it isn't instant.. but if the added live bacteria population is dense enough that it can handle the ammonia load of the fish it will have the tank established very quickly.. The tank it self will take a bit longer to establish/fully cycle it self but as long as the bacteria load added can handle your fishes ammonia > nitrite > Nitrate then your good to go!
I had some live rock with corals on it after the water was up to temp! so they were in first :) even on a new tank once your at the tail end of the cycle your safe to add easier corals
Very helpful. Doing almost the exact same thing in a few weeks. I’m not sure how much of my old rock I’ll be able to salvage without introducing Xenia or brown polyps into the new system. The old one went a bit wild with them (but it looks great anyway.). Hopefully enough to avoid a cycle.
Hello just wanted to say awesome video. Ive got some Xmas tree worms and some live rock hitchkikers. I've just added the turbo start today. Tanks halfway through the cycle. My question was. Will the fritzzyme hurt the invertes on the rock?
Nice setup!! I’ve done basically the same as you. New sand and transferred old rock to new tank. Coral and fish within two days. Testing came out perfect! My question is how long did you wait for a water change after initial setup? I’m in a 30 gal nano.
Reefdudes - I’m sharing 2 questions I have been asked, wanting to compare opinions! 1. In cycling a reef, I’ve never had a single issue when using fritz bacteria. However, on a seahorse tank, attempting to add seahorses after the tank is “technically cycled” has led to problems. We have a huge debate about “cycled versus established” in the seahorse world, and I just wondered if you believe the fish are still exposed to any turmoil during any mini-cycle to quick or too small to detect with our test kits....that won’t bother most fish? 2. How are the natural algae cycles affected by jumpstarting the bacterial cycle of a new tank? Thanks!
Seahorses may very well be more sensitive compared to fish. I would say Cycled would be deemed safe for fish/corals.. That being said SPS tend to survive but not do well until a tank is "established" and some what aged. Seahorses may very well fall in to the same situation a SPS corals.
I have 1000 questions lol. I'm getting ready to do the same. I will be moving 30lbs of live rock with a ton of coral attached and adding about 30lbs of new dry rock. I’m moving from a Red Sea 20 gallon to a Red Sea 60 gallon. 1, will my corals be ok or should I go through the whole cycle before moving any corals and fish (mostly RBTA's, hammers. leathers, acros)? 2. How long was it between you adding the turbo start to move the fish? 3. Should I use Dry sand or live? I want to move everything as quickly and efficiently as possible but allowing me some time to aquascape properly.
1. Get the tank up and running first. Transfer some water from new to old tank over a few days to balance out parameters then could move your currently rock and coral in once stable 2. Add some turbo start right away to help cycle new rock / sand. And add more before you add fish 3. Live if you have it. Way Less dusty ! Plus some good bacteria
You can add hardy coral before fish! As long as your parameters are stable they will be ok. Fish will add a lot of nutrients of a tank isn’t cycled abs mess with no3./po4 which isn’t the best for more sensitive corals
hey man i will be doing this process in a few weeks any recommendations? i wish i was able to do a clean when transferring my tank but i dont have the space :(
I personally did a shrimp cycle in my 55 gallon, and it’s taking forever for my parameters to reach zero! But, that’s pretty amazing that you got that quick of results!
Hey quick question ik this is an old video but how does fritz work? Do you just add that in and add fish in or do you add it and add a dead shrimp for an ammonia source?
you can add fish fairly shortly after providing you dose enough of the turbo start. Always a good idea to keep up on your tests to ensure it is indeed cycled and safe for the fish.
I used new sand but essential did the same and i didnt see any cycle. So if there was a mini cycle the added bacteria handled it for me to keep everything happy!
@@ReefDudes thanks for the reply i used some in my tank im just in 2weeks of the cycle it is a new set up i was just wondering if i will get it making sure im on the right track
@@ezs_reef4411 If' its 100% new then diatoms are likely.. Its part of paying your dues of a new tank.. worry not though.. they will go away on their own and is just a phase of the tail end of the cycle for most tanks.
I have wanted to try Fritz turbo start too. It has been impossible for me to find as no or locally carries it and they can’t be shipped easily since I have to be kept cold.
Great Video !!! Wow, that Fritz Turbo Start 900 seems like Amazing Stuff ! Congrats on the start of the New System ! Thanks for the review 🤗
Thanks SanDi! Its super concentrated and did not disappoint! not even a hint of a cycle using it.
I love the energy! 😂 Subbed
What’s that tool for salinity and temp??
Woop Woop! Fish going into new tank. How exciting!
Ohh yes sir!!!!!!! time to get the new one rolling!
Ur voice is so calming
Awesome and interesting update Dev...thanks.
Great video! I’m a newbie and will start my cycle soon. Do you just add the turbo start? Do you need to add ammonia source separately?
If your pre cycling a while before fish then use ammonia to feed it and keep it cycled
Hi, XR15s? How are you liking them? Coral Growth? Thanks. Also is your tank 6ft?
Yes it’s 6’. Love the lights. XR15s are my fav out of all the lights I have tried

Alexa, move all my fish & rock for me!! 😂 looking good Deven.
Rogue Aquariums your Alexa is way more useful than mine! :P
Does that Fritz turbo start work with freshwater too
Yes just go for the Fritz turbo start 700
The best part Devin, catching the fish :)
haha it wasnt as bad as i though it would be! the powder blue was the trickiest!
How soon after adding the turbo start can you add corals? I've already got fish in mine and the parameters are looking good

How many days let it cycle after adding the turbo start?

Do I take out my filter socks when I put this stuff in
Its a good idea to

Great video. I have never used fritz before. Just Dr Tim’s to jump start my tank.
Thats what i used originally to cycle my tank too!
Are you suppose to add Ammonia Chloride after you do the Fritz Turbo Start? and say if you have a 38 gallon tank, How many drops do you do?
Awesome video, thanks
nice, fish are going to a new home
Upgraded their penthouse
My Alexa started a timer for 15 mintues 😂
Hahahaha

What, so can I start a new tank with this, and not add fish? Won’t the ammonia still spike
What is that salinity/temperature pen you're using?
Salinity Pen Plus+
What tool is that

Hi Gabriel, I am about to do the same. Did take old sand? How did it go?
Where did you buy the Fritz Turbo? Thanks.
Where are you located?
What’s that tester you used ?
for salinity? its the poseidon salinity pen plus+ Ill do a video on it in the near future :)
Me while watching this: “Alexa, cancel the timer” 🤣
hahahaha love it
Hey bud did you get a diatom bloom with fritz 900?
Nope, i don't believe so. But i also moved a bunch of established rock as well. Diatoms is common on the tail end of every cycle.

it was shipped with cold packs, There is a less concentrated version called Fritz 9 amzn.to/2BfYFPr thats a little easier to find.
Is turbo start 9 kinda the same thing? Because I ordered the fritz turbo start 9
Cash Chambers 900 is about 15x more concentrated
