At the end of the first game, a party escort robot drags Chell back into the facility. In the original ending of the game, the screen just fades to black but when portal 2 was coming out they updated the game, changed the ending, made an ARG, and a comic that explains why Chell is still alive after all these years. TLDR, robot drags Chell back inside, schizophrenic scientist who survived GLaDOS saved her and put her in the stasis and made sure to route a ton of power to it

Interesting that all that time spent between the two games, people made improvements to GLaDOS's systems and to the entire facility but not figure out how she got corrupted or how to turn her back on. I mean, GLaDOS was shut down, so why did no one go to Aperture, fix things and get rid of the corruption, then turn GLaDOS back online? I guess the Combine invasion made it difficult, but there was time afterwards.
