- On May 25, 1963 the Organization for African Unity (OAU) was established with a permanent headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Haile Selassie, Emperor of Ethiopia, was selected as the first President of the OAU. In this video his acceptance speech appears and is recited by Ras Ankoma Djed.

Sorry to say, but, that will NEVER happen! There are too many ethnic tribes on the continent, will all more focused on their tribes, than the over all nation.
IF, by chance, unity was to comes about, it would more than likely be torn apart by tribal squabbles, from time to time. The situation now in Ethiopia, is a good example of regions rising up against the state, in their own ethnic interest!

Alot of people don't know really know who Haile Selassie is, what he stood for, because H.I.M. character was tarnished and distorted for a purpose. At that time Africans saw that for Africas progress they needed to unite and present a stronger front. There were 2 blocks differing on views, Kwame Nkrumah belonged to one(cassablanca block). Haile Selassie laboured for the unity of both blocs and in support of the ideology of Kwame Nkrumah and his bloc(Casablanca). And he was able to bring Liberias president of that time(before he was overthrown by Charles Taylor) who was leading the other bloc(Monrovian bloc) to toil for total independence.Don't only study Haile Selassie from mainstream history, you'll get caught up in their agenda. So you have the wrong idea about him, since you are so sure that it is not his speech, although it is. You need to research for yourself and big up yourself because the world is not going to feed you... what is good. I love Kwame, I love Julius Nyerere, Kenyatta, they all played their role toward the liberation of Africa.
