I scored a great deal last week at Kroger.....18 eggs for $1.35. They were just a few days out from their “expiration “ date, but with all my holiday baking and the fact that from experience I know dates cannot always be trusted (with eggs I do the float test), guess what....those eggs were not wasted! I also boiled some for salads.
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom 30 years ago I was a cashier. I loved seeing what people were buying. And a lot of times I got reviews on products that I inquired about. It was fun 😊
Merry Christmas, Dawn, from Ontario, Canada! We got LOTS of snow yesterday and we now will have a WHITE Christmas. Didn't think I'd be this excited!! Many blessings.
Looks like a nice haul for Christmas. I'm not saving money this month. I'm not going overboard either. The only thing keeping us okay with our budget is that I'm cooking large amounts to last us a few days. It really helps me because I'm not a morning person and my morning is at 6 pm. I try to get up earlier if I'm going to cook. Thank you for sharing your grocery haul. Love to all, Linda 💕
I was raised in the 50's and 60's, so mushroom soup for me HAS to be Campbell's. Anything else tastes strange. When I was in my early 20's I went to a restaurant and ordered mushroom soup. It was some gourmet thing. What a surprise and UGH!
Nice. Where do you find rescue hens? Seems like when most people sell the older girls, they wind up in the soup pot. I'd be interested in a few older slow egg layers for additional bug eating. They are also a lot happier to sit on eggs than the younger girls.
Butter has been up there even store brand 6 dollars. Eggs were 2.15 a dozen at our Food Lion. Never tried Aldi but maybe take a trip. Thanks for sharing
@cjhoward409 - I buy it by the gallon. Blackstrap is an acquired taste but it's got a lot more taste and nutrition. I go through a gallon in about a year since I'm always baking and gingersnaps are a family favorite.
i normally shop military commissary and sam's club and a few things from heb. we don't have an aldi's here in south texas but if we did i would certainly go there. looks like you got a lot of food for the total you paid.
If your interested in making instant cream of whatever soup, let me know and ill shoot you instructions for a shelf stable instant dry version. The store bought ones are wheat based and with my kid being a celiac I make an instant gluten-free version. It might work well with your cooking style because you only make exactly what you need. No waste. The ingredients cost a bit up front though. Lasts pretty much forever though.
@GrannyLinn - I found this on the internet years and years ago. Maybe 10? I don't remember from where, unfortunately. You can use dried whole milk or dried cream powder but it won't last as long. Non fat milk is the way to go for long term storage. I keep it in a Mason jar.. add a little chicken bullion, dried mushroom or some dehydrated celery. I use 1 cup liquid to 1/4 cup powder, but obviously change that to what you need. Also, add this to COLD liquid because of the cornstarch. If you have to add it to hot liquid be prepared to either use a stick blender to get rid of lumps, or add a bit of oil or to a pan and add the powder to it and stir it until it's a paste. The fat will bind with the cornstarch and prevent lumps. I keep a desicant in it. 1 cup dry milk powder ¾ cup corn starch 2 tsp onion powder 1 tsp dried basil 1 tsp dried thyme 1 tsp ground black pepper 1/2 tsp salt ½ tsp dried parsley
Butter at $2.99 is the best price you will find all year. My Lidl started that sale during Thanksgiving, and I stocked up my freezer with several trips. I did that 2 years ago when it was 2 for $4... 2 years later, it is 2 for $6, but IMO it is worth the investment to save now, especially if it lasts for 2 years like it previously it for me.
I would get things like 100% carrot juice. The problem with orange juice is that it’s highly processed. It’s stripped of its fiber and boiled. It’s basically orange flavored sugar water by the time it’s done being processed. 😕 Get real fruit and throw them in the blender.
@louisianarainwater one of the nice things about buying bark pre-made is that the chocolate is in temper, so it has an awesome snap. 90% of people who do this at home, me included, can't, or just don't temper chocolate so it doesn't set up as nice. There are some short cut methods but they don't work that great for me.
I love Aldi but it's not very convenient for me to get there. When I do, I always buy dairy products - cream cheese, sour cream, yogurt, sliced/shredded cheeses, butter and condiments - steak sauce, ketchup, mustard, pickles, olives.
I'm a food bank volunteer who goes to the dump afterwards having to pay to toss out the stuff you just bought. Mostly it's the kids who want that kind of stuff. You should visit your local food bank :) Merry Christmas
I think most of that is for her husband but he shouldn’t be eating any of that either. But… you can’t make somebody change their diet. For instance. I don’t drink soda. My husband likes it, although I got him to cut way back ! And he feels much better. 😊
Your husband eats way too many sweets ! 😳 Has he had his blood sugar tested recently (the A1C test , tests your blood sugar over the last 3 months ) He could be pre diabetic or type 2 already and doesn’t know it.
You are 100% right, and there are also a lot of other diseases one can get from eating so much junk, and some come suddenly and without warning ... so sad ... $100 of complete junk
Merry Christmas everyone ❤️ God bless us one and all 🙏

Those “best by” dates are for the manufacturer. So you don’t sue them if you get sick on so called expired food.
That is a great deal!
It always fascinates me what other people buy. Great price on the butter!
It’s fun to see what others buy, isn’t it?

I buy eggs from a rescue farm, produced by lovely rescue chickens that you can visit with 😆 5 dollars and the proceeds go to the rescue . Win win

I just don't buy any of that sweet treat stuff. It's popcorn here. I buy food that makes meals.
I’m the same way but I did make some gingerbread cookies this year. Molasses is high in magnesium and ginger is good for us. 😊

I agree, butter is a great item to stock up on!
I need juice because of the vitamins and minerals In them. It's easier for the body to absorb the vitamins and minerals from juice than food.

Trouble is, this is almost all highly processed food. It might cheap, but it’s largely unhealthy. You are on a health journey.
