    You can breed your own cardinals. You can tell the pairs because non pairs scrap in a group, but with Banggai's, the males have a long banner fin and a square mouth. The female mouth is pointier. You have to look for a while but you'll see the pairs. When they get pregnant, the male holds the eggs for 19-21 days. If you know your fish has eggs, herd the male into a pen and poke him to release the babies at 19 days. If he releases into the main tank, the female will immediately eat the babies. as soon as you have the babies, pick the male out because he too will eat them a few mins after he releases (go figure).. But you can feed babies gut loaded live brine shrimp and they should live. I had 14 babies survive on my first brood. They are super cute.

    Can you keep an ocellaris with a neon dottyback? My tank is in perfect condition for both and I already have my occie. Debating if I want to add another occie or a neon dotty. Anyone done this?

    "Clownfish are great for nano aquarium... remain peaceful". My arm begs to differ. Let me put it to you this way, there is a reason I wear gloves now when doing even the smallest thing in my tank... and it ain't due to fear of getting stung by Bristle Worms.

      Doesn’t really hurt but I can totally relate. I get startled when she nips at me. Never seen mine be aggressive towards other fish though. Only my female nips at me... idk if it has anything to do with gender 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @CurrentUSA
      @CurrentUSA  5 лет назад +2

      Swen hey Sven! Nano reefs are super fun ☺️ we wouldn’t suggest adding a banghai cardinal, as they need a little more room to swim. A single clown may be aggressive in a nano tank as well, and 8 gallons is slightly small for a pair. Certain types of gobies may be ok. Panda goby, flaming prawn goby, Yasha goby come to mind. Sexy shrimp can work. And maybe even a Pom-Pom crab! You could also put in a yellow tail damsel if you wanted to have a fish that will utilize the middle of the tank so you have more movement! Enjoy your pico!

    If i wanted to keep a nano tank of around 50-60 liters, what would be the best tank setup? in terms of how many and which fish to keep and what type of reef to have (natural; artificial - any particular ones). I am looking for something which is easy to keep and maintain.

    • @03jbarton
      @03jbarton 4 года назад

      M A if I did my conversions right, that’s around a 13 to 15 gallon. You’d definitely be able to keep coral and fish in that size. There are clowns that stay small or any of the fish listed in the video, just make sure they’re compatible. Check out the Inappropriate Reefer for his $146 Nano budget build to get an idea of what to keep in that size tank and how easy it is. The rule of thumb for saltwater fish is a 1 inch fish needs 5 gallons minimum.

    Where can you get captive bred dragnets? I would very much like to get a pair!

  • @heyyou5801
    @heyyou5801 5 лет назад

    My understanding even the captive raise mandarins are difficult to keep. I’ve read several forums where people have bought the high priced tank bred gobies only for them to starve after 3-4 months. Poor fish husbandry? Maybe. But I have not read much success either.

    How many ocellaris clownfish would you recommend for a 75 gallon tank?

  • @mikefisher4834
    @mikefisher4834 3 года назад

    I love saltwater but I know way more about freshwater There’s way more stuff you have to remember with saltwater and it’s stupidly expensive compared to freshwater I’m not trying to spend 2 or $3000 on fish just to have them die💯

    I couldn’t disagree with this more. Designers benefit a lot from being in a large tank as they feed on thousands and thousands of copepods a day. They can live in the smaller tanks but thrive in large reefs that have lots of microfauna and copepods. In a nano reef unless you add pods weekly a dragonet of any kind will wipe them out in a day or two.
