The Lord was totally aware of Sudama's predicament. The Lord was only waiting for that gift of love from Sudama. You reap what you sow. Any gift given with Love, produce meritorious result.

When first sudama met krishna in gurukul, sudama offered him water.Lord krishna then offered his friendship to sudama and will help sudama whenever he asked him.. Without sufferings and pain ,god would not give anything..Then only you will know the value of it.. Everybody is suffering this world whether it is for money, love etc.. The story you told is not completely true. There is a reason why Sudama was so poor and Lord Krishna could not and did not help him during his poverty.
To save Krishna from poverty? Are you talking about the same Lord krishna whose wife is the goddess of fortune and wealth.. and you really think that he will live in poverty. Once sudama ate the rice that the wife of their guru sandipani sent for Lord Krishna and that is why he suffered poverty.
The rice which sudama was carrying when he was in forest with krishna during their gurukul days were cursed by a beggar lady....It's a long story which I can't write in text...But I am sure you will find more info about this on youtube or net
I did not like Sudama character at all. If he has not material interests , why did he bring children into this world? He did, but was reluctant to do father's role and left them hungry for the most part of their life. This is a lazy attitude and the Hindu religion which actually considers Dharma as virtue should not consider Sudama as a great character. He failed in his Dharma as the provider to kids. And finally he accepts all the material things from Lord. Lol. It is so hypocrtic attitude.
Krishna not only likes Sudama , he loves him . And that is what he wants nothing else. The sacrifice he made throughout his life has become lazy attitude for you. You will never understand spirituality behind the Krishna and Sudama relationship.

Im Christian. I have watched stuff about Ram, Hanuman, etc. I imagine in history the stories were true, perhaps some stuff added over the centuries. I cant believe everything (giant flying monkey?) But there are very good moral examples in these tales.
