- Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer have condemned the Reform UK leader Nigel Farage - after he claimed that NATO and the West had provoked the invasion of Ukraine.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
Mr Starmer said the remarks were "disgraceful" and Russia bore sole responsibility for the war - while Mr Sunak said it "played into Putin's hands".

Why do smaller nations bordering on Russia want to sign the Treaty?
Is it because Estonia wants to invade Russia? Are the Latvians going to do a stealth attack on St. Petersburg?
This nonsense about provoking Russia by signing a defence treaty needs to be pushed back on.
Russia frequently invades their sovereign neighbour nations both militarily like Chechnya, Georgia Afghanistan etc as well as by nefarious covert means like in Moldova who now has a Russian enclave along the western banks of the Dniester River.
Russia is the global nuclear superpower and the idea that they are somehow under threat of invasion by democratic neighbors is ludicrous! Anyone who invades Russian territory will get nuked.
NATO is merely a restraining order against an abusive and insanely jealous ex boyfriend. It only threatens the ability for Russia or anyone else to attack their neighbors. These neighbors are rightfully terrified of Russia with their track record of aggression and the kremlins non stop rhetoric of revanchism and “borderlessness”.
Be wary of populist charlatans like Farage who take every opportunity to victim blame Ukraine and simp for authoritarians like Putin.
And what was the reason Russia illegally invaded and annexed Crimea in 2014 then?
@@keithowen3599 *From what I understand In 2013 Ukraine was in the process of negotiating an association agreement with the European Union* And this of course is not a justification for Russia to invade, and no one is saying that.
*Yet from what I understand a lot of Russians and their government see parts of Ukraine, but particularly Crimea, as a part of Russia* So by Ukraine moving closer to the E.U, they see it as it being taken it further out of their control, thus giving them their own personal warped justification to retaliate and take control of Crimea, before it is beyond recoverable.

Well Sir Kier, how about all your MPs who have blamed NATO?
They are grasping at straws because in reality, it’s an absolute fact. Nigel was right when he said it in Strasbourg and he is right now. Just because people hate Russia it doesn’t mean you can change the facts.
NATO and EU membership were none of Russia's business then and they're none of Russia's business now.
Factually - he's undeniably correct. The US made assurances to Gorbachev, it's a matter of well recorded history. We, the West, expanded eastwards when we said we would not - clear provocation.
Bullshit
@@stevenhenry5267 Not remotely. Fact. There was even regime change by the US in Ukraine - which is the reason Russia annexed Crimea and has direct causal links to the invasion. It doesn't excuse Russia's actions - but Russia didn't take them in a vacuum.
I'm unsure if you've been misled or intentionally lying; I'm hopeful for the latter.
"The US made assurances to Gorbachev, it's a matter of well recorded history": No such agreement regarding the halt of NATO eastern expansion was ever signed, and the commonly 1990 cited NATO Secretary General Wörner address for this supposed assurances contains no details regarding NATO expansion and purely relates to the placement of NATO troops in Germany.
Furthermore, Gorbachev himself was interviewed about the 1990 talks regarding assurances around NATO expansion. He was quoted as saying, "The topic of “NATO expansion” was not discussed at all, and it wasn’t brought up in those years. I say this with full responsibility. Not a single Eastern European country raised the issue, not even after the Warsaw Pact ceased to exist in 1991."
Lastly, on a personal note, even If a verbal agreement had been made, Why should Russia or the United States have the power to deny sovereign countries the right to apply to join NATO if that is what they wish? Commonly ignored or perhaps overlooked is the fact such countries were not forced to join NATO after the fall of the Warsaw Pact. Each country in Eastern Europe did so willingly. Countries like Poland have multiple times been invaded by Russia in their history and made the decision to join a defensive alliance to ensure this would not occur again; Ukraine didn't and, as such, has been invaded as a result.
Regardless, I hope this provided some insight and I hope you have a good day.

Adding to this, russia promised ukraine soverginty if ukraine gave up its nukes. Russia in fact broke this promise. I wont comment on my personal opinions about Nigel and how i think he sold out the UK but the west did not provoke this at all.
@@broreece- you probably shouldn't add to Brennan's remarks, because they are utter rubbish. The USSR was always about a single man, if assurances were given to one of their ministers - they were given to that man.
Russia, as Farage says, were entirely out of order invading Ukraine - that doesn't mean the West did not take provocative actions, which were used by the Kremlin to drive Russian support.
Actions which never should have been taken in a nation as strongly within Russia's sphere of influence as Ukraine.
? It’s Not disgraceful ; it’s the TRUTH…
Conveniently leaving out that NATO had agreed not to expand further eastward, yet engaging with Ukraine to become a member. Russia made it clear they wanted Ukraine as a buffer state. So what Nigel said is true, if the West had never entertained the notion of Ukraine joining then this war likely would not have happened.
That being said, and as Nigel says, the invasion itself condemned.
Context is important
And yet Ukraine only wanted NATO membership AFTER Russia invaded. So no, what Nige soppybollocks said was complete BS.
The US agreed with the Soviet Union not to expand further after the reunification of a Germany.
Then the Soviet Union ended along with any deals with them.
Putin is wrong to claim those deals transferred to the Russia Federation.
Bravo sir
NATO didn't expand east....the east asked to join nato because russia was killing and raping it's way through ex-soviet states. They joined for protection, not because the west asked them too but because russia scared them into it. I don't like Russia's conduct nor do I support their military forays around the world, especially in Ukraine and Syria, but it is a fact that NATO has expanded up to Russia's borders in the last 60 or so years. Farage is not wrong in stating this fact. Is it necessary to expand NATO in this way? Probably. But you can't expect such actions not to have repercussions, hence the invasion of Ukraine which is not a NATO member, yet.
I would also like to add that it's sad but predictable seeing the mainstream media try to twist this statement of fact into another attempted character assassination.
For crystal-clear reasons, Russia's neighbours are the most concerned about a Russian invasion. Who're you to deny them collective security guarantees with a known bully living next door? Sovereign states can strike alliances as they see fit, and NATO is a defensive one. Likewise, Russia has its CSTO, but I fear it has more leavers than takers nowadays. One wonders why.
@@peabaseTheir security is stay natural and don’t stick their pins in Russian people who is being treated like people of third sort by their Nazi like politics. @@studas2011 Uh, didn't you notice you were trying to make a case _against_ NATO enlargement? You're blaming the victim.
@@peabase I don't think you're reading my comment objectively. I'm a supporter of NATO and I oppose Russia's government and actions, but the fact remains that NATO has positioned vast amounts of materiel and manpower near Russia's borders - expect a response. Do you remember when the USA had to climb down from installing hundreds of Patriot missile systems in Eastern Europe? From our point of view, it's a defensive measure to intercept airborne projectiles and drones, from theirs, it's a potential delivery system to support a nuclear strike. Try to see both sides of the argument, here.
Back to the main point, Farage has suggested that NATO's expansion to the Russian border has provoked Russia into making a move - invading Ukraine. There is a strong case for that argument. However, Russia's leadership is clearly not peace-loving and corruption and state sanctioned murder of political opponents is commonplace, so as I already said in my original comment, is NATO's expansion necessary? Probably.

I don’t think so. What he said was true…demonstrably true and backed up by plenty of other informed comment. Dig a little deeper into the background and you will see that Putin..Russia..had no other option..
Flak from Stooge Starmer and WEFi Sunak is a ringing endorsement of what Nigel said.
Regardless of whether NATO creep ‘provoked’ the Russian invasion, bottom line for me has always been I’d rather live in any NATO country you care to mention than Putin’s Russia.
Trying the oldest trick in the boom slander .. Nigel is Far Too clever to fall for that HE SPEAKS THE TRUTH .. Which is much more than can be said for the other clowns 🤡
