Hi! Do you need special equipment to hike Nishi Hotaka? Is it dangerous at any point? My idea is to start in Shinhotaka Ropeway, sleep at Nishiho hut, go up to Nishi-Hotaka and then back. Thanks!

Hi! No special equipment if there’s no snow (in summer), but helmet is recommended and safer as there’s some loose rocks in some part of the route. But there’s some scrambling and climbing （need to use hands) along the route. For Nishi hotaka the most difficult part should be the scrambling just before summit, make sure you’re confident in a bit climbing and down climb that part to return.
