      Yeah that’s really poor work that…
      To do this properly he should have uniformly prepared the board in a steambox… a steambox will slowly break the lignin bonds and allow you to shape it much more vigorously and without all that pre cutting… once the lignin hardens in the new shape, you’re basically done except for finishing.
      This can be done at home with some prep… for small bends you dont need to steam the whole board, just your section… for small bends i use a wallpaper stripper as the source of steam and pipe it into a box that encloses the section of board to be bent… i have also used tubular plastic bags before todo a full board on a jobsite without a full length steambox.
      If you’re making a permanent steambox more steam is better.

    Letting it soak in the hot water will have been better then just pouring it on and the supposedly scolding hot water run off.

      Letting plywood soak in water like that is bad for the glue adhesion. He should have just dampened the other side

    Hey friend, best way to do this is to steam and soak the wood where you want to bend it and bend it slow, usually using a metal outline to hold it in shape and kiln dry it

    Yea I'd rather take the time and properly steam the wood and bend individual pieces to the desired shape, Then proceed with the rest of the assembly and shaping. This looks like something I'd expect to get from Wish.

    I don't think that is the same piece of wood. thickness looks different, and the wood filling you did at the end left a lot to be desired.

      The first piece he cut was about 25mm then it somehow gained an extra 10/15 mm after lol

      Also using a thinner kerf blade would have been better.. 1/16” widths on the cuts instead of 1/8”

      Why not just bend a thinner plank without cutting? I haven't seen anyone do that but that doesn't mean you cant

    If you use angled cuts when it's folded round it closes those gaps up much nicer.

      Specifically, a pointed router bit instead of a miter/chop saw.
      The exact angle bit you need depends on the radius of the curve and how many cuts you'll use.

      @@julien93140 I think there's something called wood biscuits. You put them in, apply a glue or water, and they'll expand to fit the space

    Don't let the negative comments get to you. Everyone is so used to perfect carpentry/woodworking skills on RUclips that everything less than perfect is considered bad.
    It may very well look rough, but you did something and made it work, and that should be applauded. I want to get into stuff like this, and I know for sure that it will look worse than yours, but that is not going to stop me from trying.

      We aren’t used to perfect carpentry, we’re used to competent carpentry. This is hot garbage, as evidenced by the fact that the finished product, which isn’t even level, isn’t the same piece they started with

    You should use a V cut. Then it will form a perfect curvature.

    That's called kerfing wood..... done it many times for the smooth rounded finish for speaker box ports, followed by tons of sanding lol.!

    There's a few master craftsman here in my country that used hot water to bend wood in order to craft Ships. It was one of the coolest things I've seen

    Whoa never would I imagine that the technique from those 5 minute crafts can actually be used irl somewhat. I think instant noodles might work too to fill the gaps. Sawdust clogs the hole and prevents the glue from penetrating deep. If you use instant noodles, the glue can penetrate deeper into the gaps
