I'm trying the two circulars method for the first time, this was very helpful and made me laugh at the "udder" needle. So glad these videos are still online. ❤
I haveI seen cows and goats milked, but haven't milked them, but I nursed three children and I totally understand. Your videos are great. Love your sense of humor.
I have been using circular needles for a few years now, and have now watched this U-tube and learned how to do it correctly! Thank you for this video! Love the knitting 2 stitches at the beginning - I was doing it wrong all this time.
Hi Cat, My sister and I just love your video. It was so funny -- she couldn't sleep one night, got up at 3 a.m. , watched your video and learned how to do it! She has inspired me! It is definitely so much easier and more fun than dpns anyday! Thank you!
Thank you so much for posting this wonderful tutorial. I made my first pair of socks using your 2 circs method! I have this video bookmarked for the future :)
Just wanted to say that I really enjoy this method. it's so much easier than DPN's for me and the circulars don't pull out as easily when my little ones get a hold of them.
Joining with the extra loop is brilliant! So logical and almost "obvious" when you think about it, but how many people struggle to avoid that extra drawn-out piece on the first row...I always did! I suppose it would work just as well with DPNs or Magic Loop...Thanks again!
Om gosh! Awesome tutorial and really helps with the confusion about where everything should be. LOVE the udder analogy. Thank you very much. Must watch some more :)
I've been knitting for a great number of years, And I just came across knitted Zombies, So here I go wanting to make a small body in rounds now with learning to work with 2 cir needles is great Thanks so much for these lessons . Lynn from Maine
Thank you Cat! I learned how to knit my first socks from you. I knew I could do this but needed a refresher on it. Now I am ready to knit my first Chrsitmas stocking.
Thank you - this was a great video! I'm an experienced crocheter and have recently successfully made my first knitted sweater, but I have never worked with dpns or 2 circulars for in-the-round knitting. I just found a pattern for a beautiful pair of mittens I'd like to try and your video is extremely clear and helpful.
this is so helpful. I'm trying a new pattern and it calls for knitting on two circulars and I had no idea where to even start. The instructions in the book were kind of vague so it was kind of confusing. (plus I learn from watching not reading) I'm glad you put this on here. Its informative and incredibly helpful
Thank you for this video. I have restarted the same mittens like 40 times because I kept having major gaps between my stitches at my turning points. I am still only using one set of circular needles, but your video helped explain some things to me that I was missing in other videos.
Your video is fuzzy but a great video and helped me very much! I just started a pattern that did not demonstrate nor explain this part.I cast 22 on each needle and did not know what to do next....?! I am a newbie knitter, learned by knitting my first pair of socks on 5 needles and now learning 2 circulars. Thank you very much!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm trying to make the swirl shawl that is made up of hexagons in the round and my first try using dpns almost made me give up. I think this method will have me finishing up the project in no time.
This is awesome! I like it so much better than dpn (because I always feel like one of the dpn gonna poke me in the eye when I knit with it) and faster, too!
I have decided that if I only finish one sock, then the next sock will be the same color as the first. So, when I finish a second sock, I'll have a pair of the same color. But I might try the 9" circular before trying Cat's method. Actually, learning both would be fun, too. Always room in the Learning Basket. TY for a good video.
At 2:00, you slip the start of the cast-on (white)stitch over to the end of the cast-on (purple/red). And you knit (?backward); from the end toward the start of the cast-on. If i were to knit in 1 circular, i thought i could start knitting in the round; continuing in the same direction as the casting-on. What is the difference?
Doesn't the acute hinge angle put undue stress on two points in the round? How is this better than using DPNS where there are 3 or 4 more obtuse angles?
This is a great video, just watched it once and got the hang of it first time! I only have one little (but very annoying) problem: I get a ladder where the stitches go from one needle to the other. I try pulling tight, but still get the ladders...
Hi Cat, I'm just starting to learn how to knit socks and wish you woule have explained the advantage of your method right at the beginning, and also shown how the work looks with a few inches of knitting on them. Is it the way to knit two socks at once by the wa&y? This actually what I'm looking for as I think it's a great idea. PS: in weaving, the non-working needle would be called 'idle'.
Oh I think I understand now, because to knit socks the only alternative to a pair of circs would be a set of DPNs because of the small diameter of socks, which wouldn't fit on just one circ. This method could also work for hats then. I've been knitting hats lately and changed to DPNs from circ when the decreases made the diameter too small for the circ. Got it!
I'm still a little confused about when you put the knitting down, how do you know where you are? Is the needle with the working yarn always the left hand needle?
Great video! It skipped the part where you moved half of the cast on stitches to the second needle. Did you just slip the stitches over knitwise? Or had you cast on to both needles (it only appeared t be one)? Or was there some special Bordhi technique here too!?! Thank you so much for such an enjoyable, educational, and memorable video.
great! I never thought of using circular needles to knit a sock or anything sircular..hmmmm the example about milking was clear..but did milking wheals count? :p
that's udderly groan-worthy! thank you for the video; that was an excellent explanation. i have bad memories of DPNs from my childhood (much better ones of milking cows and goats, albeit not whales), and this looks like a fabulous way to continue avoiding that mess o'needles while still being able to knit socks. so, now to figure out how i get two socks at once going; that should be eminently possible.
i need a different video, i probably cast on my long tail in a different way since my working yarn is on the opposite side and no matter how i move stitches around i can't get to have it hang on the right and the cast on front loops facing me (i always have the wrong side bumps facing me if i do what you do)
lol, I love the way it just cuts off at the end, mid-sentence. X) Despite it's blurriness and poor sound quality is it actually a very clearly explained tutorial. I might give this one a go, it looks slightly less awkward than knitting with the single, circular needle, magic loop method and WAY less awkward than using double pointed needles. Thanks for the explanation.
Hi Cat, I don't think I'm enjoying this very much. When got to the part where I have to move the 5 wing stitches to the needle. I really got mixed up.The saleslady said to save money I should buy just one of each size and to learn the Magic Loop.I did but am not happy with the outcome. I guess I can put the five sts. before A. on to a separate needle. The 80cm needles were $9.00 ea. He bought 7 sizes. I could have had the interchangeable. I really enjoyed working on the 2 circ. ndles. Jan
Cat. The lady from a knitting store suggested that I could do your patterns on one circular needles. She said to just use markers to divide my instep and sole stitches. It's much cheaper than buying two sets of needles. How do you feel about this? Jan
@gabrieltheking2203...yo hablo español...sera que te puedo ayudar en algo?? Si tienes una pregunta para la señora yo podre preguntarle a ella por ti???
Thanks. We have yellow(Y) stitches as the beginning of cast-on, next comes lime(L), blue(B), purple(P), and dark pink(R) as the end of cast-on. After slipping the extra yellow stitch over to other needle, you knit those stitches in the direction of stitches in color of RPBLY. Will it be OK if: with 13 stitches on needle that consists of end of cast-on, slip extra Red stitch over to the other needle. Then knit in the direction of stitches in the color of YLBPR?
Thanks for posting this. It's very helpful! I have one pair of US 6 circ needles and one pair of US7 circ needles. Would it be very bad to use them both with this technique? Or are they close enough and will it all even out "in the wash"?
helloo from Canada my dear. #1 which do you like better magic loop or 2 circs and why ? i would like to try one . right now i do dpns for my socks . #2 which one is easier to make 2 at a time socks do you think and why ? THX IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP
my utters are utterley ridiculous! hanging on wrong side of my work, tangled in my working yarn, hitting my fingers as i knit, stuck in my finished work!ne suggestions on how to tame them after dropping?
eh bien là je n'ai strictement rien compris, quand on ne comprend pas la langue on aimerait comprendre rien qu'en regardant les gestes mais ici on ne comprend strictement rien, dommage
I really wish this would get redone, as the video is very pixelated and it takes quite a bit of squinting and guessing to be able to see any detail. The content is useful, but the voice over should not take so much longer than demonstrating the technique does, as it is easy enough to understand without any explanation.
The video and sound are very poor quality. Too bad because it looked like it would have been a good instruction video to go with the Cat Bordhi book I bought and Cat Bordhi comes highly recommended but I'll look for one easier on the eyes.
I'm trying the two circulars method for the first time, this was very helpful and made me laugh at the "udder" needle. So glad these videos are still online. ❤
Thanks so much for this beautiful lesson. This is becoming my go to for circular knitting!!
I learned how to knit on 2 circs using this video, along with part 2. Have made several hats & I'm now starting socks. Thanks so much!

Brilliant! Such a clear demonstration, and the trick with the extra stitch is fantastic! Thank you. 😄😄😄
U r the best! Easy to watch, relaxing, well explained, good lighting, nice video and easy to remember. Thank you
Thank you so much for posting this wonderful tutorial. I made my first pair of socks using your 2 circs method! I have this video bookmarked for the future :)
What a great tutorial. I like your "udder reference". This looks so much easier than I imagined.

You are an excellent "explainer", Ms. Bordhi. Thanks for this terrific demonstration! ~Diana from Toronto

This is the video the blew open the door of knitting for me. Thank you Cat.
Thank you Cat! I learned how to knit my first socks from you. I knew I could do this but needed a refresher on it. Now I am ready to knit my first Chrsitmas stocking.

The udder needle explanation had me in stitches....
Love the udder needle idea! Great idea! Thanks!
You have made it very clear! I love you!
thank you!! It finally clicks and you explained it beautifully
Great tutorial! I'm never going back to using double pointed straight needles again!
Your mnemonic device is udderly powerful!
Excellent demonstration. Thank you!

clear and friendly, thank you for posting, keep up the good work!
Changed my knitting life!

you're awesome! so clear and patient! thank you i've got it now!! :)
oh my goodness this video was so helpful!!!! thank you for posting!!!
Really Thank you! I tried this method. It is awesome! So easy. Thank you!!!
love the udder needle metaphor. very easy to remember:) thanks!

that was great, a new way to do hats on circular, who could ask for anything better. Thank you
Thank you very much. I so needed to see that.
I just found you today. Thank you SO much for sharing!
wow, you make it so easy to understand
Great tutorial. Thanks

Peace.............

what size do you use ( im trying to make mittens
Is your right side on the inside of your round.

how do you do it with the yarn in the right hand?
Are two needles always to required for circular kintting? I was used to round loom and wanted to learn this method.

Wonderful explanation, but unfortunately poor video quality.
Almost 18 years ago, video quality wasn’t like now! She was an amazing and inventive teacher and designer! I miss her… one of my best teachers. ❤
so blurry, cant watch this
I can't hear half of what she's saying. It's like she's speaking into a tin can :(
very wordy. just get on with it.
Great tutorial. Thanks for the video. Instructions are very clear and easy to follow.
