Since my 30th Birthday end of August this year life has taken a huge huge downward spiral in darkness and I found myself really depressed. My girlfriend at the time split with me so I lost the house the dog and the car.. But I have always had a fire in my belly for Brazilian jiu-jitsu. All I can say is thanks for healing me mentally and physically and im slowly coming in to the light at the end of the tunnel of depression. I started BJJ 1 month ago and last week I received my 1st stripe on my white belt. It might not seem as much but as a 30 year old man it really gave me a fire to work harder and harder and master this art that I've formed such an addiction to I am no longer dwelling on the past as I've been married to BJJ for one whole month. Two year blue belt here. 39yrs old. Multiple injuries already. Recently recovered from finger surgery after breaking it during a sparing match. Training again now. The perseverance is real. The love is real. The last five-six minutes of this video brought me to tears. Jujitsu is like life. Life is very hard with struggles. Fortitude and perseverance are what we are after. Praise God for it all. Praise God for this Art.

Man, those side mount and headlock escapes had me impressed. I find it easier to get out of mount than side on most lower belts and he made it look the opposite.
I remember watching his crucible for brown belt, and now to see him get his black belt is awesome. You could definitely see the fighting spirit coming through by the end of it because it was pure grit keeping him going. Then I literally started tearing up when they transitioned the belt and he paused holding it for a few moments letting it sink in that they day had finally arrived. Congratulations Chris! Roy always a pleasure watching any of your content and Rick it was awesome seeing you there too!
I started watching Roy Dean videos in 2013. Been watching them ever since. I watched Chris's brown belt crucible 3 years ago. Been a fan of his ever since. Seeing his black belt crucible was even more inspirational. Can't wait until I can get back on the mat tomorrow.
There's no substitute for walking through the fire. It's reminds me of the last event in bootcamp. All day and all night of grueling hardship ending in a ceremony where I received my new cover that said I am no longer a recruit but a serviceman. Roy Dean is running a proper dojo and he keeps the martial in martial arts. I salute you, Chris, Rick and all of your black belts.
Chris, it’s absolutely inspiring to watch someone ascend and peak so many physical and psychological mountains placed before a man, then master the crucible, no matter how many years one takes to achieve SUCH a demanding journey. Peace, vitality and respect to you!!
I honestly cried watching this... Its never an easy road to becoming a black belt. I am far from it. However, when I received my first I stripe cried. While absolutely exhausted, and with his team behind him, it was emotional to see him push beyond his limit. Truly a warrior's mind. Congratulations Chris!
