Never saw this…what a GREAT gag ever! Melissa has definitely grown as an actress…so glad she continues to do projects with her husband. Now that’s teamwork!
I love how you can tell that Melissa was genuinely surprised to hear her name. She let her guard down a moment and stopped playing for the cameras. She honestly expected one of the others to win, and I love how happy the rest of them were for her when she did.
It’s actually a gag line from a lot of Miss America Pageants. The host at some point usually says “everyone’s a winner”. So I think Rob said that as a joke.
@@jovanolague3161 Yes, Rob's line was a gag to continue the pageant theme, but Ryan Davies was talking about the fact that this whole gag shows that all of the nominees are fantastically funny women to fully go for the joke. And really - it's totally brilliant.
Brilliant! And they say women can't do comedy. Of course, they've said they couldn't do all kinds of things. As it turns out, they can do anything as well, if not better, than the less subtle sex. Bravo.
You can literally see her mouth, "Holy shit", and the hugs that ensued made me cry. I wish everyone supported each other's successes this way. She's so talented!
Thanks for pointing that out! I was actually trying to find out if any of them hadn't won any awards yet (not just Emmys). I am fairly certain this was Melissa's first major award.

I really like how Edie Falco and Martha Plimpton and Laura Linney got in on it. Its something you'd expect from Tina and Amy, who do skits and performances a lot, but seeing Martha and Edie and Laura even join in is cool
I will never tire of watching this. Absolutely hilarious, but also so uplifting. I was doing a little research and I think Melissa was the only one in that group who had never won any TV/film/theater awards prior to this Emmy. That makes this even cooler!
Janet Snakehole Back when a demonstration of female solidarity at an award show was fun and cute and original. Now it’s just a bunch of boring, big-headed, loud-mouthed lemmings screaming “MeToo!” And “Time’sUp”. They took all the fun out of it.
What an amazing moment in awards! They should do this every time!... Thanks to Amy Poehler!! The audacity and bravery!!! Stand up and applaud her JUST for that!
@@Verminreaper999 Julie Bowen actually won in the category for Supporting Actress in a Comedy that year! Fun trivia: the Modern Family cast all submitted themselves in the supporting actor/actress categories because they felt as an ensemble cast, there were no clear lead actors/actresses. The Friends cast also used that method for the majority of the show’s run until the last few seasons where they all started submitting themselves in the lead actor/actress categories.
Who knew - we really are in another golden age of Hollywood. These are some real f’n comedy queens, and it’s great to see them standing together as peers in their craft.
I ADORE Melissa McCarthy, but I have to say that I am shocked Edie Falco didn't sweep the vote. Her performance as Nurse Jackie should have been unbeatable 😲
I believe it was Amy Poehler who came up with the idea as a way to combat a surge in false tabloid stories claiming that women in the industry were fueding and arguing in a warped atttempt to pit them against one another and cause drama. This was her way of showing solidarity and support among women in the industry whilst making a brilliantly executed joke at the same time.
the gag that sofia vergara has a thick accent is running thin. ANd it just sounds obnoxious when some Americans pay her out for it- she speaks amazing English! Everyone has an accent- and American accent isnt the default accent of the world.. ps love Amy Poehler in this, what a great skit

I met Melissa McCarthy in Australia, in Byron Bay, NSW a couple of years ago. I forgot my wallet (it was on the seat of my car in the car park) and she paid for my lunch I had just eaten with my great uncle. The bill amounted to $50. She gave me $50, paid $50 to the cashier and put a $50 note in the tip jar. Generous lady.
