The world’s smallest orchestra. Neil Peart on drums and percussion, Alex Lifeson on guitar, and Geddy Lee on vocals, bass, keyboards AND Moog foot pedals! A trio unlike any other. All hail the mighty RUSH 🤘
R.I.P. Neil! Drummer, Lyricist, Husband, Father, Biker, Writer ... Beautiful Beautiful anguished soul. God Bless his legacy and his deep deep soul. Only once saw RUSH live ... mind blown. Nothing like watching true artists in real time. One of the best times I've had in my entire 51 years of life.
Have heard from new and this was awesome! Spent 25 years working just west of YYZ !!! AKA Pearson Airport for Toronto. Never get tired of it and nice to see through a fresh set of eyes!!
agreed. some of his solos are all time greats. la villa strangiatto, limelight, subdivisions.... and his song writing and melodic qualities he brings to the band are a huge component to why the band is so good. you cant have an elite level power trio if not every member is elite.
Go down the rabbit hole with Rush. 2112 overture all the way to temples of syrinx....a passage to Bangkok is on the same album. 2112 is when Rush got me as a fan for life. 🎼🎶😎🤘We nicknamed Neil the Professor...he has every piece of percussion on his kit at some point over the 40 years they toured. Xanadu live is also an awesome display of triple talented guys. Real raw talent🎼🎶🤘YYZ instrumental only.

@@CCCowboy Great as well. I bought that album when it first came out and quickly became addicted. I was 13. My favorite album by them. Forget that, my favorite album. It would be my island choice.
Neil Peart was the master of reverse timing, and what is just as amazing is the ability for Alex and Geddy to do what they do and keep the original timing of their music. Rush gets better every time I hear their music. Even after 30+ yrs (for me anyway)
Rush: Making everyone else looks lazy since 1972. Welcome to the family, y’all! As you can hear from the crowd; Rush fans can sing this song, even without words.👍
You are looking at “THE” progressive rock band!! YYZ was one of their few instrumentals. Geddy Lee (bass & vocals & keys), Neil Peart (drums) & Alex Lifeson (guitar & keys). 3 pc band & all were masters at their instruments!! Neil incidentally did most of the song writing (lyrics). Cancer took Neil but not before he showed everyone how drums can/could be played! Every drummer in existence tips their hat to Neil & sometimes even bows down front! 😉🥁

The Morse is in the drums at the beginning. Alex was flying (he's a pilot) the band back to Pearson (YYZ) and they heard the code on the NAV(?) radio. That set the juices flowing. I don't know if you'd call it zoning code. Its from the time when flights were transmitted through teletypes (think oldschool typewriter). Transmission time was pretty slow, think 2-3 letters per second. Easier/faster to send "YYZ-YYC" than it is to say "Lester B Pearson Airport to Calgary International". Each country does theirs slightly different. America LAX is Los Angeles, DFW is Dallas-Fort Worth, LGA is La Guardia, JFK is one of the airports servicing New York, MSP is Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Europe: HEA is London-Heathrow, GAT is London-Gatwick, AMS is Amsterdam Canada starts all airport names with the letter 'Y', YYZ is Toronto, YVR is Vancouver, YYC is Calgary.
The best 3 man band ever in my opinion. I’m glad I got to see them a few times. Peace to Neil. The best drummer of all time. He wrote the lyrics to most of songs. He was a musical genius.
'The Spirit of Radio', but there's 40 years of material here. Another favorite is, 'Roll the Bones'. It is pronounced like 'ear' wit a p in front and a t at the end. P-ear-t.

The base guitar player and the lead guitar player also play synths with their feet while also playing their main instruments...Rush is good for the soul :) Peace!
Geddy Lee, the bass and keyboard player is the vocalist as well. On most all of their songs, he sings way up high. Neil, the drummer, wrote most all of the lyrics in their songs. Eric, Guitar, and Geddy did most of the musical composition. They play the shit out of their instruments, so much sound out of a three piece. They really stood out. Much of their earlier music is very complex prog rock theme albums. Their 80's stuff is probably the stuff you'd dig the most. A couple of suggestions. Sub Divisions and The Spirit of Radio. Especially Spirit of Radio. Nice Regge break in the middle.
Rush sleeper...Scars from the “Presto” album. Passage to Bangkok is always a great listen. Dig deep and listen to Working Man from their dirtiest album!! 🤙🏼
"spirit of the radio" is a must hear-- Bassist Geddy Lee is also the vocalist, keyboardist and plays the Synths . Sometimes all at once Neil Wrote most lyrics,

YYZ is also purely instrumental. Geddy Lee is one of the GOAT bass players. He plays the bass, lead singer, and plays keyboard with his feet. RUSH is amazing.
5:18 - YYZ was originally a warm-up for them before they recorded (No Lyrics)..it kept expanding to what you hear now and became an epic part of their repertoire. AWESOME
The crowd is the 4th member of the band. YYZ is the airport code for Toronto International Airport (Rush hometown) The beginning of the song is morse code for YYZ.

The bass player, Geddy Lee, is also the lead singer. I can't remember the song, but somewhere here on RUclips is a Rush live vidseo where Geddy Lee is singing, playing bass, organ and even a large keyboard on the floor all at the same time. It's totally awesome.
Hey, guys. Just wanted to let you know that YYZ is one of their few instrumental songs. YYZ is actually the airport code for Toronto, their home town. This , I believe was filmed in Rio and the crowd was absolutely awesome. They do have a song named A Passage to Bangkok, which I believe is the one that you were thinking about. So many good songs from this band, hard to choose, but I'm sure you would enjoy The Spirit of Radio, Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Free Will and Working Man. That would give you a nice taste of what this band is all about. Enjoy the journey -- you won't be disappointed !!
I like how the crowd quites down during thier solos so they can hear it. Some couldn't hold back tho later on lol. Also, it's fun to notice when the crowd is winded by the singalong parts. Because they are jumping the whole time. That's not easy. But they kept on dancing. That's not just top draw; that's legendary.
Yay!!!!! I was hoping you would do this version. And yes, "YYZ" is an instrumental, but bassist Geddy Lee is the singer on most of their songs. He also played keyboards and synth pedals live. And the song you're thinking of is "A Passage To Bangkok"
I cannot recommend the documentary enough. So much insight. Just knowing where they came from. The most interesting guys ever. Not like any other rockstars ever. Goat.
As rush was flying into their home airport, Toronto they heard the Morse code for Toronto Airport. They incorporated that in the beginning of the song. YYZ is the code for on the baggage tickets for Toronto. The rest of the song is dedicated to happenings in an airport ei arrivals and reunions, people running around and departing their loved ones are all in the musical changes in the song. I think that is the story of YYZ.
That 'Rush in Rio' album is amazing. They recorded several live albums, but I believe this is the best. Another good instrumental is 'Leave That Thing Alone' (live) and one of my favorite, less recognized song is 'Between the Wheels' if you haven't already checked them out!
"How does he get out?" To Neil's left is an electronic xylophone. Behind him is his electric drum kit. Between the xylophone and the electric drums is a narrow gap that he can get in and out through.
Look at my man young buck LFR JOjo! It’s good to see you with family. God bless you are. I loved both your channels and subbed to both a while back. Keep up the great content.
Dad said " Geddy jumped on the piano ! " Yeah that's one of the many things the Musicians in Rush Do ! They Jump on things and and ride it in a direction you were not expecting! Just to suggest some of my favorite's ; "Bastille Day", " Vital Signs", " The Pass" , "Scars", "Super Conductor", and "Countdown"! I have many more Favorites. But those are some the songs that other reactors have not reacted to and also my personal favorite's ! Great Job ! Cheers 🍻
YYZ is the airport code for the Toronto airport. Home for these guys. This was written to express their joy on returning home. The intro is Morse code for YYZ. Never had any lyrics, but that didn't stop the crowd in Rio from singing to it. Since you like Neil's drums so much you should check out his solo in Frankfurt. Also his last name is pronounced like ear with a P at the beginning and a t at the end.
YYZ is one of 3 completely instrumental songs by Rush. Vocals are usually handled by Geddy Lee - (bass, vocals, keyboards, pedal-keyboard). Alex Lifeson - the guitarist, does some BGVs. A bit of trivia - the intro section and end are taken straight from the Morse code for the major airport in Ontario (airports have 3-letter codes, Ontario is "YYZ" - thus the name) - where the band are from :-)
Hi LFR Family, glad you liked the music. Young man, Your dad loves you so much, that he gave you the opportunity to see and here something special. Rush is more than just three guys, more than the sum of their parts, they like you were given something special. Music is life.
Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Red Barchetta, Spirit of Radio, 2112, it really doesn't matter which one you chose, they are all amazing...Xanadu, The Garden, Subdivisions....
Great video guys. Huge Rush guy here, providing y’all with some facts: You had Peart right! It’s not Pert. Neil Peart was the primary lyric writer. Geddy Lee is the coolest bassist ever and also the vocalist and also the keyboard player (he ALSO plays keys with his feet). Big Al is the guitarist, also a pilot, and honorary member of the Canadian Air Force. All three members have earned the Order Of Canada, the first Canadian rock band to receive this honour. Much love to you and your family from BC Canada ❤️✌🏻🇨🇦
YYZ is the fan favorite instrumental from Rush. If you listen at the start of the song, the pattern that Neal is ringing on the bells is morse code for Y Y Z. Each airport broadcasts a three letter morse code signal that identifies the airport for any planes that may have lost communications. Rush begins and ends their tours at The Toronto International Airport which has a morse code signal of YYZ. The fans have loved that song since it came out many years ago! Some info on the band: Neal Peart is the undisputed King of Rock Drummers! He also wrote all the lyrics for every Rush song with the exception of the first album when they had a different drummer. Alex Lifeson throws guitar licks out that are absolutely amazing! He covers such a wide variety of sounds and techniques that it is challenging to keep up with them. Geddy Lee is one of the best (if not THE BEST) bass players in the rock world. He also plays keyboards and does the vast majority of vocals for the band. All in all, Rush is, in my mind, the best rock/progressive rock band that this world has had the pleasure of seeing. The band toured for 40 years and during that time I had the pleasure of seeing them perform live on 8 different occasions. Some suggestions for future reactions are La Villa Strangiato (Instrumental), Tom Sawyer, 2112, Natural Science, Animate Me and Roll the Bones. Roll the Bones (the song title from the album of the same name) is the only rock song that I know of that has a skeleton doing a rock and roll rap session! Enjoy!
Just watched this, and I love it!!! Just read a few of the comments, and I'm sure there's nothing I can say about Rush that hasn't already been said. Welcome to Rush...you'll never be the same.
Welcome to the world of the instrumental! They play everything live, lots of foot pedals triggering sounds.. incredible musicianship! I'm sure you know this by now but the Bassists sings too and the guitarist does backing vocals.
Neil was considered as one of the best drummers. Geddy Lee was voted as the best bass player by his peers 7 times. Alex Liefson is also considered to be a top guitar player.
*RUSH RULES* 💜💫✌🎵 RIP Neil Peart 1952-2020 💥THE GIRL WHO LISTENED TO RUSH💥 From the back of the stadium She’s easy to see Standing up at the stage In her Starman tee From Anthem to Limelight To YYZ She’s the girl who listened to Rush And all of the rockers And all of the heshers Well they dreamed of the day That they might get her And drive her away In a Red Barchetta She’s the girl who listened to Rush Philosophers and ploughmen They can’t resist her call They cannot choose Not to decide So they've got no choice at all They've gotta love her No she doesn’t say "Pert" And she doesn’t say "Part" Yeah, she knows it’s "Neil Peert" ‘Cause he’s close to her heart Say a prayer for John Rutsey He was there at the start She’s the girl who listened to Rush Philosophers and ploughmen They can’t resist her call They cannot choose Not to decide So they've got no choice at all They've gotta love her Why don’t girls ever listen to Rush? But she listened to Rush! The blacksmith and the artist They can’t resist her call You cannot choose Not to decide So you’ve got no choice at all No you’ve got no choice at all You’ve gotta love her ~Author Unknown
For my $2.50, Alex Lifeson has always been one of my favorite guitarists, and this song is a great example of why. Geddy (bass) is going ape, Neil (drums) is going nuts, Alex kicks back and holds it all together. When he solos, it is melodic, singable, and memorable with tasty well chosen notes.
YYZ is instrumental only, but most of their songs have lyrics, and the bassist, Geddy Lee, is who sings them. You guys should definitely check out Tom Sawyer and/or Limelight. P.S.: Not only was Neil Peart the greatest drummer, the bands lyrics are mostly written by him
Yes this is an instrumental. They are one on almost every album. They are thes best freaking band eve. I've seen them 139 times in cocer. There are so so many songs thT you need to listen to. Their best instrumental i s La Villa Strangiato.... check it out. And all other RUSH songs. You won't be disappointed.
There are technically lyrics they are just “said” via their instruments. The intro takes it’s rhythm from the Morse Code for the letters YYZ. YYZ is the airport code for Toronto Pearson. This is Rush’s home airport. YYZ represents arriving home after a journey to the band.
That's the one. Great reaction, and great introduction to Rush. Not bad for 3 modest, master musicians, heading towards the end of their careers (in their 50's at the time they were doing that concert tour). You'll notice that Geddy's voice isn't as sharp as it was in the 70's and 80's, but it still seems to fit the songs. After You've reacted to most of the vids from Rio, I would suggest getting the DVD, and watching the concert from front to back, and listen to the commentaries too. The boys had said that they were shocked and humbled, by how much they were loved and respected during the Brazil leg of the tour, and the crowd knowing every note, and singing/moving along with each song, energized their performance on stage. ("Beyond The Lighted Stage" is another good music documentary about the band) oh And if I may offer another suggestion for a reaction? You may enjoy their finally getting an induction into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. From surprise interruption of the MC at the show opening announcements of the inductees, to the fanboy inductor speeches from Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins (of Nirvana and Foo Fighters fame), to the incredible acceptance speeches by Geddy, Neil and Alex, to the huge jam session by most of he nights inductees and inductors at the end of the night. It's a blast. 8-) There's a reason that almost every famous artist/musician, point to *Rush* as their greatest influence(s), and skill levels to strive for. I think it was Dave Grohl that had said, about Neal Peart; *"He's your favorite drummers, favorite drummer"* Keep on, keepin on, and enjoy the journey
To answer you question YYZ is without lyrics. The bassist Geddy does all the vocal work for this trio and is held in pretty high regard. The drummer (Neil) writes all of their lyrics, which he is as fantastic with as his work behind the kit.
I've seen Rush live three times in the 600 shows I've attended. (Drummer/Guitar player former LA area ticket scalper) Their set is over three hours long and Neal does a 15 minute drum solo. Check out the Neal Peart live in Frankfurt video, it's SICK! THE GOAT!!!!!
YYZ is the airport code for Toronto which is their home town. Check out Countdown or losing it from Signals as a couple of other underrated songs from RUSH
"Passage to Bangkok". From their landmark album "2112". Came out 1975. Neil's third album with them. Their self titled debut, Rush, had drummer John Ramsey. His health couldn't allow him to tour the way they needed, so he resigned from the band. Enter 'The Professor'. P ear t. Pronounced like EAR. Peart.
The world’s smallest orchestra. Neil Peart on drums and percussion, Alex Lifeson on guitar, and Geddy Lee on vocals, bass, keyboards AND Moog foot pedals! A trio unlike any other. All hail the mighty RUSH 🤘
No argument here.✌✌
Unreal how incredible

You know its lit when the crowd is "singing" the music and its an instrumental LOL
There are no lyrics to YYZ just so you know.
And the crowd could not really keep up lol
EXACTLY
Brazilian crowds are awesome

you cant have an elite level power trio if not every member is elite.
This ! ... Absolutely.
I'd like to add Larry Lalonde to that list 💯🎸
ABSOLUTELY!!
only two reasons is that he was in Rush to begin with and he lived the exact opposite of a Rock and Roll lifestyle.
Geddy lee on bass is absolutely KILLING IT .

Rush is an incredibly talented band. Neil and Geddy are premier musicians. but, we need more recognition for Alex. He is an amazing guitarist.
Geddy Lee who in the bass player is also the vocalist and keys....super talented!
I was always amazed how 3 people can make such great music!!!
Brother, you are absolutely right on. That is so much sound with only 3 members. And the bassist is also the singer. And all 3 write the lyrics as well. So talented
Gotta check out “La Villa Strangiato”. Another great instrumental.
Oh god yes!!
That tops YYZ for me. And I love YYZ!
mmmmmhmmmmm hemispheres is agreat album too
Rush is the greatest music Canada has, and ever will produce, period.
Let me introduce you to Devin Townsend. He is a Canadian musical madlad as well.
The world. Rush are the kings of progressive:
The New Pornographers aren't bad....
Dale Cooper Dying Fetus.
You’re omitting The Tragically Hip? What kind of Canadian are you?
If you want to go on an musical journey, check out Xanadu by Rush.
Exit: Stage Left is a good live version.

Don't forget that Lee and Lifeson also played foot pedals too!
Don't limit Neil to drums. That man played any instrument man has ever hit with a stick, mallet, hammer, or hands. Often times all in the same song.
So good to see new faces enjoying their music. The section between the drum keypad and the back drums open up so Neil can get in. And he used evry single one of the drums. Professor there was so much to learn from you RIP.

Obrigado Brasil 🇧🇷!
Geddy also plays bass pedals with his feet while playing the keyboard.
Neil Peart plays pretty straightforward in YYZ. Want to see him really shine, Xanadu live is a really good showcase of the breadth of his talent.

I cannot recommend the documentary enough. So much insight. Just knowing where they came from. The most interesting guys ever. Not like any other rockstars ever. Goat.
Rush in Rio .. is the best live experience ive had on a surround system and big screen.. massively fun start to finish 👍
I saw Rush in concert like 30 years ago and yes only 3 band members on stage and they brought the house down'
As rush was flying into their home airport, Toronto they heard the Morse code for Toronto Airport.
RIP Neil Peart,!!!! The man who gave me the love for drums...Building yet another set sir!!
Spirit of Radio, Subdivisions, Working Man, Limelight. All epic Rush joints!
What can I say that hasn't already been said. The greatest rock trio ever. RIP Neil.
YYZ is the name of the airport in Toronto. Peart passed on earlier this year, and yes there are 3 GOATS in this band.

"How does he even get out?"
He doesn't. That's where he lived.
How awesome is it to have a crowd sing along to an instrumental
Geddy plays bass, sings, foot pedals, and keyboards...and one of the best bassists EVER.
Props to your boy for the "Jazz" comment. Rush has a lot of Jazz influences and Neil Peart especially loved Jazz.
Neil was considered as one of the best drummers.
Geddy Lee was voted as the best bass player by his peers 7 times.
Alex Liefson is also considered to be a top guitar player.
Basically you have three guys who would've been superstars individually, but put them in the same band and they only raise the bar.
Getty has nothing on John Paul Jones
@@timholder4002 ,whatever
You are a great Dad sharing Rush with your son. Best form of Home Schooling; teaching the curriculum of Rush 101!!
The bass player / keys player is also the singer! Best 3 piece band ever...
Spirit of radio -Rush
Working Man - Rush
*RUSH RULES*

RIP Neil Peart 1952-2020
💥THE GIRL WHO LISTENED TO RUSH💥
From the back of the stadium
She’s easy to see
Standing up at the stage
In her Starman tee
From Anthem to Limelight
To YYZ
She’s the girl who listened to Rush
And all of the rockers
And all of the heshers
Well they dreamed of the day
That they might get her
And drive her away
In a Red Barchetta
She’s the girl who listened to Rush
Philosophers and ploughmen
They can’t resist her call
They cannot choose
Not to decide
So they've got no choice at all
They've gotta love her
No she doesn’t say "Pert"
And she doesn’t say "Part"
Yeah, she knows it’s "Neil Peert"
‘Cause he’s close to her heart
Say a prayer for John Rutsey
He was there at the start
She’s the girl who listened to Rush
Philosophers and ploughmen
They can’t resist her call
They cannot choose
Not to decide
So they've got no choice at all
They've gotta love her
Why don’t girls ever listen to Rush?
But she listened to Rush!
The blacksmith and the artist
They can’t resist her call
You cannot choose
Not to decide
So you’ve got no choice at all
No you’ve got no choice at all
You’ve gotta love her

Geddy Lee, one of my favorite Bassists. Yes he is also the keyboardist and Lead Singer.
Check out "Working Man" live in Cleveland.
There are technically lyrics they are just “said” via their instruments. The intro takes it’s rhythm from the Morse Code for the letters YYZ. YYZ is the airport code for Toronto Pearson. This is Rush’s home airport. YYZ represents arriving home after a journey to the band.
"train to bangkok" its a song about pot... :D but it you want some serious RUSH instrumentals check out " La villa Stingato" by Rush
("Beyond The Lighted Stage" is another good music documentary about the band)
oh
And if I may offer another suggestion for a reaction?
You may enjoy their finally getting an induction into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
From surprise interruption of the MC at the show opening announcements of the inductees, to the fanboy inductor speeches from Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins (of Nirvana and Foo Fighters fame), to the incredible acceptance speeches by Geddy, Neil and Alex, to the huge jam session by most of he nights inductees and inductors at the end of the night.
It's a blast.
8-)
There's a reason that almost every famous artist/musician, point to *Rush* as their greatest influence(s), and skill levels to strive for.
I think it was Dave Grohl that had said, about Neal Peart; *"He's your favorite drummers, favorite drummer"*
Keep on, keepin on, and enjoy the journey
To answer you question YYZ is without lyrics. The bassist Geddy does all the vocal work for this trio and is held in pretty high regard. The drummer (Neil) writes all of their lyrics, which he is as fantastic with as his work behind the kit.
I've seen Rush live three times in the 600 shows I've attended. (Drummer/Guitar player former LA area ticket scalper) Their set is over three hours long and Neal does a 15 minute drum solo. Check out the Neal Peart live in Frankfurt video, it's SICK! THE GOAT!!!!!
RUSH
"XANADU"
EXIT STAGE LEFT
1981 (LIVE)
It'll blow your minds!
AMAZING!
RUSH IS EVERYTHING!
💥💯🖤🎼🤘
RIP Neil Peart
YYZ is the airport code for Toronto which is their home town. Check out Countdown or losing it from Signals as a couple of other underrated songs from RUSH
"Passage to Bangkok". From their landmark album "2112". Came out 1975. Neil's third album with them. Their self titled debut, Rush, had drummer John Ramsey. His health couldn't allow him to tour the way they needed, so he resigned from the band. Enter 'The Professor'.
P ear t. Pronounced like EAR. Peart.
