I'm really leaning toward the idea that Echo is Jameson Jackson. As Tom pointed out, Iris is already aware that there are entities that can mess with time, suggesting they've had experience with the guy who's clearly from a different time period than everyone else and that they may have "contained" Jameson like they may have been trying to do with Chase. Echo also can't be heard by the viewer aside from the ethereal noises, but Chase can understand him, similar to how Jameson can communicate with the viewer but not via his voice (either with slides like an old time movie or using BSL). The tone Chase uses when speaking to Echo also feels gentle, like speaking to someone who seems scared, which doesn't seem like it would fit the vibe of a superhero like Jackieboy Man or a magician who, based on his most recent short video with the magic book and everything, seems to have some idea of what's going on. As far as Jameson Jackson "just being a silly old timey character," I definitely recommend checking out JJ's Jolly Jaunts (I believe that's the name), one of Jack's previous Halloween videos.
I think so too. Either him or Marvin. They are the only ones who seem to have powers (yes Jackie is a superhero and probably has powers too, but we’ve yet to see what kind of powers) and they both have some connection and have seen Anti.
And the name makes sense. If an echo is the original sound being bounced around and JJ is all that remains of a pretty much dead medium then you could say he is the echo of that time. That or it's a new character who isn't quite real but clearly wants to help
I really like this theory! It's very complimentary to the character Of JJ. It would be immensely creative for his method of communication- silent film, slide-whistles, text on boards, to be part of how the character exists outside of a camera or film.
as a person who spent majority of 2015-2018 working very hard on lore and writing down notes and furiously debating over what things mean between class periods this makes me so happy.

In the vide Sean got a nosebleed, a headache, and heard voices talking Which than he slices his throat and than right after the video glitches and that's when antisepticeye is like born/revealed.

Game recommendation: Security Booth by Kyle Horwood. You play as a security guard working in a security booth outside of a company lab called Nova Nexus. Throughout the night you must decide who you will and won’t let in. However, there is something that I can only describe as extra-terrestrial or ethereal going on. There are 7 endings (and hidden notes) and no one has pieced together what the backstory is or what is going on in the company. I thought it might be a fun game to play on GTLive! Edit: I forgot to mention that you also collect videotapes when you get an ending, which could be crucial when it comes to filling in the lore.

The feeling of deja-vue in IRIS universe is actually something entirely different than in our universe - Sean cleared that up in his post-mortem IRIS stream on twitch!

To comment on the commentary made around 1:01:30 about the other Egos being “sillier”….I beg to differ. (Excepting perhaps Jackie, seeing as all of his content has been more fun/comedic, though Jack has gone on record to say that when he brings Jackie back he wants to Do It Right..so that is bound to change.) Henrik (Schneep) is goofy at first, flirtatious even, but he later appeared in videos that were loaded with heavier lore and darker themes. He had to save Chase’s life at one point and even was seen desperately researching something that was never explained - a clip at a computer in front of a whirling screen that is later connected to Marvin (magician). Marvin, too, only ever had sillier connotations in his origins, but later (maybe last year if memory serves?) he returned in a video that showed us the first mentions of IRIS, including a darker video aesthetic and mentions of serious magic/sorcery lore for his character. He also seems to be keeping an eye on the others from a distance. And then there’s Jameson, who - while on the surface may APPEAR to be just the “goofy silent film guy” is also the source of one of the creepier appearances of Anti we’ve seen. In his second video we also see one of the only instances of a character actively fighting against Anti’s control. So in truth, any of them could be Echo, though I have my suspicions that it isn’t Henrik.

Something I noticed was that the red blinking light on the camera became steadily more rapid as the days went on. There is that close up zoom on the camera where the light flicks on about once a second, where before, it was more like 2-3 seconds per red light blink.

I'm so excited they're talking about all of this. Markiplier, Jacksepticeye and all their alter egos and connected universes have been one of my special interests since 2016. Part of my favourite things of all time. It makes me so happy.

That's why Jack had no plugs in at that time and Mark had no tie. Up to present, we've only seen every other appearance if Anti and Dark with these accessories.
Funny they mention the citizens getting nosebleeds, since in the pumpkin carving video where antisepticeye was introduced, Sean gets a nosebleed before antisepticeye shows up. He also hears something in his house.
What if all the other egos are just personalities that he uses to keep the Anti version from latching on. The reason that they seem to die is when Anti brakes through. That is why Anti is so obsessed with Brody. Brody is the only real one. Anti needs a body to stop being a glitch. Anti tried to take over Seán/Jack but that Jack was weak. Iris is this world's SCP.
20:15 He has been in the IRIS building before: it's linked to when Chase is getting dragged in the red room. It's on Jack's video on Dark Silence where you see Chase walk down the hall and then Anti is in the red room and turns and looks at him, so this IRIS video is the reverse of that, where Chase is at the end of the hallway and Anti walks down the hallway and finds him, and that's how Chase says he's been here before. (Confirmed by Jack also)

The anti matter is in the camera and we get the transition coming out of the camera so maybe they discovered the antimatter power source and harnessed it without realizing they were actually inviting anti to show up through it?

The person talking to chase at the end, it made me think of Marvin, because he was messing with magic, dark magic, the last time we saw him. Anti is definetly involved in everything as seen in "CHASE" too, and Shneep was also up to something and messing with some weird computer time machine(?) Jackieboy Man is very absent in everything lore, and JJ would be hard to involve with interactions with other characters with his whole "mute" thing. Those two are out of the picture for now, but would be happy to see what the dapper boi can really do! Edit: so uh... Anti can now fly?

Being with a group really helps, cuz they're far more vigilant and intelligent than I will ever be. There are those who can watch each timestamps, ones who can decode video, and audio to reveal secret codes, whereas I was one of those people who get something out of them..I was more of a theorist that form connections, making this theory valid, or debunked. The crumbs are hidden at videos far back since 2016, there are videos that have compiled the crumbs, and most series affected to the lore were 3 Scary Games. It might be best for you to join the server, but its prolly dead nowadays haha
i do have a theory for maybe who the voice is that Chase hears. So basically I think it may be JJ (Jameson Jackson) because he had an experience with Anti and it would be possible for it to be JJ as he's a mute character so that would explain how Chase doesn't recognise the voice.

Though it’s hard to tell what’s been retconned for the official JCU. For example, Chase’s “kids” have been retconned to one kid. Even a whole character (Marvin) was completely reimagined. I like to think none of the egos have even met yet, hence Chase calling his wife and kid “the only two people that ever mattered to me”.
This video gave me the idea that Mat needs to do a mini theory on Dr. Cecil H.H Mills. That was who was in In Space With Markiplier, and he was in some strange alternate dimension, narrating what was happening at certain points. Plus that character "exists" in the real world because we can purchase his books. There's a fun theory idea there.

The SCP link is interesting, but I haven't seen anyone mention the movie "Arrival". I think it'd be really good for people to look into that too. Sean has a tattoo from it he loves the movie so much, and that's what this entire video reminded me of (especially with the audio design of Echo talking). In the movie, the creatures speak non-linear and out of time, cause their experience of time is happening kinda all at once (if my memory is correct). I think Sean might have taken inspiration and one could find links of the temporal nature of things in there with how events are seemingly "out of order" in the video. ie maybe anti walking in at the end past dead bodies and chase frightened were two seperate events, being experienced at the same time by those two cause theyre altrs and would experience time differently. Only a thought.

I think that Chase Brody was a camera operator or similar for IRIS, and this is how anticepticeye is born. the idea that antimatter is connected to anticepticeye has some merit to it i think. the reason I say he was a camera operator or similar is because he says that he feels like he's been there before. and during the period of isolation with no interviews, he is very specific to threaten the camera, maybe because he is familiar with how important they are to IRIS. it may also explain why the random zooms on the camera itself happen, hinting at Chases past with them. but that's just a theory, A GAME THEO-

From what I remember from Jack's stream, he actually didn't pull at all from SCP and I believe he never really looked into it. However, he was inspired by the game Control which in turn was inspired by SCP.

both Schneep and Marvin have been seen in videos around "CHASE" the doctor could be connected to IRIS or have tried to hack into their systems like we did as Chat during the livestream. His appearance was at the end of a video a couple years ago now, he was seen at a monitor. Marvin had his own short video, with a book that seemed like a spellbook and a crystal ball (like those you can see the future with). He also has had that shift into the more serious tone Seán wants to make these characters' story in.
MAT!!! Please play Strange Horticultural! It’s a game placed in the 1800s where you run a plant shop that has practical and magical uses. Strange costumers as well as normal civilians who all wish to use the plants for their own purposes shop at your store. You also a have a choice as to which plants you want to give that could have a wide range of effects. (Ex: One woman is having visions torment her and you are able to give her a plant that will increase the visions or make them go away) This game has witches, cults, demons, murders and best of all tons of LORE everywhere in this game. We’d all love to see you make a video about it!

It's been so long since I've jumped into the ego lore and I can't find a single video that sits down and actually walks through it all. I think it would be awesome because I love the lore but there is so much and it's hard to follow and I want to make sure I understand everything that's going on for future lore updates.

As someone who wasn't able to be around for the full livestream, i'm so grateful for GT taking on the lore of this one! I love this ever expanding corner of the youtuberverse and friendgroup so much!
The problem with that, is that the SCP doesn't have any one specific canon. Same thing with The Backrooms. They don't lend themselves very well to theories because there isn't an answer to find.

It's made by specific people unlike the backrooms where no one owns it everyone just adds stuff; SCP is a bit more organized and the "main canon" is essentially the official games. Fans adding SCPs is just adding life to the foundation as technically many more SCPs do exist the creators just didn't make more as the games didn't need more, fans can't add just anything either it has to be accepted and the fans can also vote to take down (fanmade) SCPs if they're too lore breaking or dumb; some things are still more canon than others and the fanmade ones are mostly regarded as not important to the overall lore/plot just fun addons. The backrooms also technically has a singular canon..that being the original 4chan post, everything else is non-canon essentially, but as no one has come forth claiming ownership the fandom took hold and made it everyones to enjoy and add on to (with a few rules to try and hold peace, but no true lore or anything in mind besides "this other world exists parallel to ours that you can no clip into" not much deeper than that).
Another reason for deja vu is the fact that your brain processes what your eyes are seeing with some lag. In fact research has shown that while it takes 13 milliseconds to process most things, the way we process sight is 15 seconds behind. So when you feel deja vu it can be because of a weird occurrence where you're basically aware of that gap. Because you have seen what's happening before. 15 seconds ago.
Just gotta say, none of u brought it up in the video, but it's something thats always been on my mind. Anti can control a few of the other altrs. Dr. Shneiplstein, a few times with Jameson Jackson, and now more with Chase. Just wanted to put that out there. Oh, and also, Anti has shown up in Thankmas videos he's done. At least one, idk if more and can't remember which one, but that's also a thing that's happened. Ok, that's all from me.
Someone in the Jackseptieye Subreddit actually translated the numbers to letters in ALTR-114209 which lead to Anti as 1 was A, 14 was n, 20 was T, and 9 was I so was ALTR means is still a mystery but the numbers, if true, are translated to Anti
I love Jack's lore so much more than Mark's. It's so fun! A few things though. It's been awhile since i've seen all the videos on Sean's characters. But i feel like i remember Anti has done things to mess with Jameson Jameson (JJ) and dr. Schniepelstein. Maybe the others? Also, my personal idea behind this: Chase has been "teleporting" between universes. IRIS knows Anti can shift and alter with time and space. Anti i think has connected himself to Chase in order to gain power through Chase's grief, pain, anxiety, etc. Echo may be one of the other personalities Anti has affected similarly to Chase. Just a bit of ideas, not too much research behind it personally

To comment on the commentary made around 1:01:30 about the other Egos being “sillier”….I beg to differ. (Excepting perhaps Jackie, seeing as all of his content has been more fun/comedic, though Jack has gone on record to say that when he brings Jackie back he wants to Do It Right..so that is bound to change.)
Henrik (Schneep) is goofy at first, flirtatious even, but he later appeared in videos that were loaded with heavier lore and darker themes. He had to save Chase’s life at one point and even was seen desperately researching something that was never explained - a clip at a computer in front of a whirling screen that is later connected to Marvin (magician). Marvin, too, only ever had sillier connotations in his origins, but later (maybe last year if memory serves?) he returned in a video that showed us the first mentions of IRIS, including a darker video aesthetic and mentions of serious magic/sorcery lore for his character. He also seems to be keeping an eye on the others from a distance.
And then there’s Jameson, who - while on the surface may APPEAR to be just the “goofy silent film guy” is also the source of one of the creepier appearances of Anti we’ve seen. In his second video we also see one of the only instances of a character actively fighting against Anti’s control. So in truth, any of them could be Echo, though I have my suspicions that it isn’t Henrik.

Something I noticed was that the red blinking light on the camera became steadily more rapid as the days went on. There is that close up zoom on the camera where the light flicks on about once a second, where before, it was more like 2-3 seconds per red light blink.

I'm so excited they're talking about all of this. Markiplier, Jacksepticeye and all their alter egos and connected universes have been one of my special interests since 2016. Part of my favourite things of all time. It makes me so happy.

That's why Jack had no plugs in at that time and Mark had no tie. Up to present, we've only seen every other appearance if Anti and Dark with these accessories.

What if all the other egos are just personalities that he uses to keep the Anti version from latching on. The reason that they seem to die is when Anti brakes through. That is why Anti is so obsessed with Brody. Brody is the only real one. Anti needs a body to stop being a glitch. Anti tried to take over Seán/Jack but that Jack was weak. Iris is this world's SCP.
20:15 He has been in the IRIS building before: it's linked to when Chase is getting dragged in the red room. It's on Jack's video on Dark Silence where you see Chase walk down the hall and then Anti is in the red room and turns and looks at him, so this IRIS video is the reverse of that, where Chase is at the end of the hallway and Anti walks down the hallway and finds him, and that's how Chase says he's been here before. (Confirmed by Jack also)

Hear me out, extending the idea of the antimatter/antisepticeye connection. The anti matter is in the camera and we get the transition coming out of the camera so maybe they discovered the antimatter power source and harnessed it without realizing they were actually inviting anti to show up through it?

The person talking to chase at the end, it made me think of Marvin, because he was messing with magic, dark magic, the last time we saw him. I do believe it may have been him speaking with Chase here. Anti is definetly involved in everything as seen in "CHASE" too, and Shneep was also up to something and messing with some weird computer time machine(?)
Jackieboy Man is very absent in everything lore, and JJ would be hard to involve with interactions with other characters with his whole "mute" thing. Those two are out of the picture for now, but would be happy to see what the dapper boi can really do!

Being with a group really helps, cuz they're far more vigilant and intelligent than I will ever be. There are those who can watch each timestamps, ones who can decode video, and audio to reveal secret codes, whereas I was one of those people who get something out of them..I was more of a theorist that form connections, making this theory valid, or debunked. The crumbs are hidden at videos far back since 2016, there are videos that have compiled the crumbs, and most series affected to the lore were 3 Scary Games. It might be best for you to join the server, but its prolly dead nowadays haha

i do have a theory for maybe who the voice is that Chase hears. So basically I think it may be JJ (Jameson Jackson) because he had an experience with Anti and it would be possible for it to be JJ as he's a mute character so that would explain how Chase doesn't recognise the voice.

Something you missed while explaining Chase's backstory in the start is that he also attempted s*icide and was rescued by Schneepilstein! There's a lot of scattered lore
Though it’s hard to tell what’s been retconned for the official JCU. For example, Chase’s “kids” have been retconned to one kid. Even a whole character (Marvin) was completely reimagined.
I like to think none of the egos have even met yet, hence Chase calling his wife and kid “the only two people that ever mattered to me”.
The ambiguity makes it more fun, like multiple stories have formed around these characters and it’s up to you to decide which you’ll call your own!
This video gave me the idea that Mat needs to do a mini theory on Dr. Cecil H.H Mills. That was who was in In Space With Markiplier, and he was in some strange alternate dimension, narrating what was happening at certain points. Plus that character "exists" in the real world because we can purchase his books. There's a fun theory idea there.

The SCP link is interesting, but I haven't seen anyone mention the movie "Arrival". I think it'd be really good for people to look into that too. Sean has a tattoo from it he loves the movie so much, and that's what this entire video reminded me of (especially with the audio design of Echo talking). In the movie, the creatures speak non-linear and out of time, cause their experience of time is happening kinda all at once (if my memory is correct). I think Sean might have taken inspiration and one could find links of the temporal nature of things in there with how events are seemingly "out of order" in the video. ie maybe anti walking in at the end past dead bodies and chase frightened were two seperate events, being experienced at the same time by those two cause theyre altrs and would experience time differently. Only a thought.
Anytime I’ve felt deja-vu it’s been things happening that happened it dreams anywhere from a day to a year prior which is mad more weird by the fact that I rarely dream and even more rarely remember my dreams
I have a theory. I think that Chase Brody was a camera operator or similar for IRIS, and this is how anticepticeye is born. the idea that antimatter is connected to anticepticeye has some merit to it i think. the reason I say he was a camera operator or similar is because he says that he feels like he's been there before. and during the period of isolation with no interviews, he is very specific to threaten the camera, maybe because he is familiar with how important they are to IRIS. it may also explain why the random zooms on the camera itself happen, hinting at Chases past with them. but that's just a theory, A GAME THEO-

From what I remember from Jack's stream, he actually didn't pull at all from SCP and I believe he never really looked into it. However, he was inspired by the game Control which in turn was inspired by SCP.

the doctor could be connected to IRIS or have tried to hack into their systems like we did as Chat during the livestream. His appearance was at the end of a video a couple years ago now, he was seen at a monitor.
Marvin had his own short video, with a book that seemed like a spellbook and a crystal ball (like those you can see the future with). He also has had that shift into the more serious tone Seán wants to make these characters' story in.
MAT!!! Please play Strange Horticultural! It’s a game placed in the 1800s where you run a plant shop that has practical and magical uses. Strange costumers as well as normal civilians who all wish to use the plants for their own purposes shop at your store. You also a have a choice as to which plants you want to give that could have a wide range of effects. (Ex: One woman is having visions torment her and you are able to give her a plant that will increase the visions or make them go away) This game has witches, cults, demons, murders and best of all tons of LORE everywhere in this game. We’d all love to see you make a video about it!

It's been so long since I've jumped into the ego lore and I can't find a single video that sits down and actually walks through it all. I think it would be awesome because I love the lore but there is so much and it's hard to follow and I want to make sure I understand everything that's going on for future lore updates.

The problem with that, is that the SCP doesn't have any one specific canon. Same thing with The Backrooms. They don't lend themselves very well to theories because there isn't an answer to find.

It's made by specific people unlike the backrooms where no one owns it everyone just adds stuff; SCP is a bit more organized and the "main canon" is essentially the official games. Fans adding SCPs is just adding life to the foundation as technically many more SCPs do exist the creators just didn't make more as the games didn't need more, fans can't add just anything either it has to be accepted and the fans can also vote to take down (fanmade) SCPs if they're too lore breaking or dumb; some things are still more canon than others and the fanmade ones are mostly regarded as not important to the overall lore/plot just fun addons.
The backrooms also technically has a singular canon..that being the original 4chan post, everything else is non-canon essentially, but as no one has come forth claiming ownership the fandom took hold and made it everyones to enjoy and add on to (with a few rules to try and hold peace, but no true lore or anything in mind besides "this other world exists parallel to ours that you can no clip into" not much deeper than that).
Another reason for deja vu is the fact that your brain processes what your eyes are seeing with some lag. In fact research has shown that while it takes 13 milliseconds to process most things, the way we process sight is 15 seconds behind. So when you feel deja vu it can be because of a weird occurrence where you're basically aware of that gap. Because you have seen what's happening before. 15 seconds ago.
Just gotta say, none of u brought it up in the video, but it's something thats always been on my mind. Anti can control a few of the other altrs. Dr. Shneiplstein, a few times with Jameson Jackson, and now more with Chase. Just wanted to put that out there. Oh, and also, Anti has shown up in Thankmas videos he's done. At least one, idk if more and can't remember which one, but that's also a thing that's happened. Ok, that's all from me.

Someone in the Jackseptieye Subreddit actually translated the numbers to letters in ALTR-114209 which lead to Anti as 1 was A, 14 was n, 20 was T, and 9 was I so was ALTR means is still a mystery but the numbers, if true, are translated to Anti

A few things though. It's been awhile since i've seen all the videos on Sean's characters. But i feel like i remember Anti has done things to mess with Jameson Jameson (JJ) and dr. Schniepelstein. Maybe the others?
Also, my personal idea behind this: Chase has been "teleporting" between universes. IRIS knows Anti can shift and alter with time and space. Anti i think has connected himself to Chase in order to gain power through Chase's grief, pain, anxiety, etc. Echo may be one of the other personalities Anti has affected similarly to Chase.
