Wayne is a really super nice guy, my only complaint is we don't hear from him enough. Many of the younger trainers have came up under Wayne Lucas. DWL is a legend is horse racing. He donated some of his personal racing memorabilia to the Ky. Derby Museum. Great guy. Good luck in the Belmont Wayne!

Felt so sorry for him when his son died, here in Oklahoma. I had hoped to meet Jeff one day, but too late now. I have been a fan of him and Wayne for a long time. Poor Jeff never fully recovered from that horse running him down.
Mr. Lukas has mellowed with time and is a joy to listen to when he talks. If I didn't want Justify to win, then I'd like to see him win it and take a 15-14 lead in Triple Crown wins over Bob Baffert.

Final take on race 8 Preakness day 2018. I contacted pimlico race track to report 48,000 or so PLACE pool money was shortchanged to winning tickets. They told me to call the Maryland racing commission who in turn told me to call Thoroughbred Protective Agency who in turn told me to contact pimlico race track. Interesting all 3 are in Maryland. I called FBI and they said to call California Gambling Commissioner sine I was defrauded in California. The Commissioner Admitted I was going over his head with my calculations and so did the FBI! Finally I received printouts of the place pool calculations and it was handwritten that Mitole should have paid 3.00 to place and not 2.40 and the 2nd place horse also should have paid more. The Thoroughbred Protective Agency finally gave me MARYLAND racing rules and it shows a 18% takeout and then a multiplication of .82 on the dividend. They do not use that formula all the time as that would make the mutuel take 36% Apparently they can use the formula at their discretion or else they provided me with a forged document. I have calculated over 300 or so calculations on NYRA place and show payoffs and they are ALWAYS correct. I have calculated over 500 or so payoffs on Santa Anita and Gulfstream payoffs and more often then not they are reduced by .20 ...2.60 place reduced to 2.40 etc. I AGREE with TRUMP firing so many people in govt. after dealing with this issue
Best Hypothetical Breeding Ever - Justify x Winning Colors. There was just so much jealousy around Justify that people could not realize what they were seeing. So glad he has proved his believers right in the stallion shed and then some. You will find some horses that kind of look like him, like Judge Miller, and others with his brilliance like Flightline, but we won't see the combo that he has ever again. That is Secretariat type rare. Just too bad he was so good and so valuable that he would have been too expensive to insure to keep racing......it ain't like beating Good Magic again in the Haskell or Accelerate in the Classic does anything for his value anyways. The real ones like Lukas knew exactly what they were seeing - a once in a lifetime type of animal, who did something no other horse has before (won crown in 111 days) and won't be done again. We've had a lot of great horses since Justify, like Flightline or Essential Quality, and not even won of them could win two triple crown races.

I grew up in the late 80s, when D. Wayne Lukas was starting to dominate the Triple Crown. I didnt like him. I thought he was arrogant and self promoting. He wore three hundred dollar sunglasses, two thousand dollar suits, and seemingly won every big race, whether he put three horses in each field, or not. Which I thought was lame. I then lived about 30 more years and learned a lot more about the man. His dedication to excellence, his insane work ethic, and most importantly, his ability to get the most out of his horses. I love the guy now. He was Bob Baffert before Bob Baffert. Its hard to believe that his dominance has been topped, but hes still an amazing trainer, and if theres a Mount Rushmore of horse trainers, hes going to be on it for a longggggg time. I now even love the guys three hundred dollar sunglasses and two thousand dollar suits. My only hope is that he gets one more Kentucky Derby, because he deserves it.

Or are we going to see a young horse who in 3 weeks suddenly becomes capable of stalking...getting dirt in his face, and not going to the lead as he prefers? I want him to win.
