That press conference was HILARIOUS ...saw CNN say he was live from the Pentagon....I thought wtf!...I met him years ago...Lovely lovely man.
NOTHING, IMO, he's done could EVER top his performance singing "The Music of the Night" as the Phantom of the Opera, because it's such an incredibly beautiful piece of music & lyrics, and he did a superb interpretation of it. All of his younger fans, who've never heard it, should REALLY check it out, the studio recording is on RUclips, of course, as well as live performances, I'm sure...

Yeah, and when Americans named Gerard hear how you pronounce their name, they also think YOU are pronouncing their name wrong. There isn't a right or wrong way to pronounce Gerard, or any other word in our shared language, with regard to differences in dialect. Now, if you want to pronounce Gerard as 'skee-bunk,' then yeah - that's wrong. But this thing you're pointing out is just a standard difference between British-English and American-English.

The name Gerard was introduced into Britain by the Normans, so it has been pronounced ‘JER-ard’ a hell of a lot longer than it has been pronounced ‘Jer-ARD’. As for there being “no right or wrong way” to pronounce it, Gerard Butler was called JER-ard by his parents - who _chose_ the name and its pronunciation - and it’s what he calls himself, so Americans should respect the correct pronunciation of _his_ name, even if they insist on calling American Gerards ‘Jer-ARD’.
The same goes for Craig Ferguson. It’s not ‘Creg’ (ugh), it’s CRAYG.
