there is no such rule, as having a rule for this would arguably be counterproductive, possibly making the communication artificial, which is exactly the opposite of what you want :) depends on the speaker and how you're getting along. I would say on average there is around 1 or 2 minutes of small talk before I start the actual interview, but like I said, I would not treat this as a rule
Thanks for your useful advice! There was a situation that I ended recording when a known interviewee started casuall talk with me, but he suddenly talked about the interview topic again, can I write down what I've missed and meanwhile sneakily start recording again?
when you say "sneakily", I feel like saying "no, this is unethical" - but since you are not telling them officially "now I will not be recording anymore", and they agree to be recorded in the first place, yeah I think that is absolutely fine :)

I did the table of data and my supervisor asked me to write a conclusion under the table to describe it. Could you please tell me if you have a sample? If yes, where can I find it? I don't have a video on it, but if you mean numbers as the number of times certain codes or themes occurred, I just discuss themes and sometimes comment on how many times they occured. If you mean quantitative data, however, it is not my cup of tea at all :)

you can conduct your interviews this way, or even through messenger, but it is never gonna be the same as a traditional interview
