Apple can easily unlock it's own phone if they really wanted to. It's not about that though. The FBI wants to force Apple into creating software that will unlock hundreds of iphones that are currently in their possession.
First the FBI said we just want to unlock this one phone. Then when questioned further upon if it's just really one phone, they say well... yes, we want to unlock this one phone and others we have in our possession. So what the FBI was stating originally was very misleading.
So yeah, it's not about 1 phone. it's about creating a cancerous software to aid the FBI. Apple is a private company and it shouldn't be forced into labor to work at the hands of the government. That's some real fucked up shit you'd only see happening in countries like North Korea.
If they can force Apple into creating "FBI software" they can force Google, Microsoft or any other big tech companies into doing work for them in the name of "terrorism". Terrorists have already won if we're forfeiting our rights because of them.

Lol what a joke, I love how James comey says do we leave it up to the people or do we get Congress to give us what we want. I doubt they want the people’s opinion!

With all due respect, the FBI should simply plea for the fact that if these suspects encrpyted the phone, they altered it for criminal intent. Therefore its not original to the technical design of what it was intended for. Then simply start a joint task force with apple directly and see if they can retrieve what they need off that phone.

Jj Ek simply the fact that someone has encrypted files does not proves actus reas, or an overt criminal act. And also its a problem for law enforcement since its physically impossible to break certain types of encryption

    Apple vs FBI debate quiz
1)If Apple made an Ihome, should law enforcement be given software that enables them to enter that home if they have a warrant?
If you answered yes, you should support the government. Simple.
If you answered no, then go complain about house warrants that a vast majority of people recognize as a necessity.

+hamorsteak Invalid comparison. A warrant gives the government a right to search your property. The FBI has the the property already, they just can't touch it because of what it is. This is a situation without a simple precedent.

Guy On A Computer The precedent is that the government is already allowed to invade the privacy of your home and look through anything they want, including computers and phones if they are capable.
Tell me how this case is new?

hamorsteak The property is already confiscated and in FBI possession, and they are free to do whatever to investigate it. They want Apple to open it for them, by removing the Brute Force defense. In a House, they knock the door down themselves if the owner barricades it, they don't have the realtor do it because they do not own the house anymore. Of course, a house allegory here still ignores other factors of the case. There are genuine arguments on both sides here, don't be so dismissive.

First of all, police use information on phones and laptops to put all kinds of criminals behind bars. Information is key to solving cases.
Second, I agree the government shouldn't be able to force Apple to make software. I just think it is the right thing to do. Apple is milking this debate for free advertising, and it's working out well for them.
Many people will die for the foolish pursuit of a criminals privacy.

side note: about the key being accessible to everyone, it won't be. The software only poses a threat to Iphone security if the software is leaked, and if Apple and the FBI cooperate, I'm sure they can come up with a bulletproof security solution. We have kept the nuke launch codes safe this long haven't we?
Besides, hackers have easier ways to get personal information.

Solution: Apple create the code, and unlock the phone from its labs.

    • @davidhamilton9129
      @davidhamilton9129 8 лет назад

its not that simple for a number of reasons,2 of them being that there JS no back door to the I phones current system so its more secure from hackers, and it only.allows for 10 brute force attacks before it wipes its own data, most phones from three years ago take over 25 brute force attacks and almost a week to do so
