I’m just saying it once for all the people misinterpreting. In this video I’m saying how in Mexico dark skin native american women aren’t CONSIDERED pretty. I was speaking about the society standards: “Compared to others, she may not be as pretty, but still is PROTECTING the image of mexican traditional people” (and that’s good).Yalitza is changing the standards and I’m here for it!

Yalitza looks like most Mexicans because most of us are mixed with Spanish and Indigenous people. Not everyone in Mexico reflects that. That's why it's important for so many of us who do have indigenous heritage to see someone like Yalitza be on the big screen. I brought that up because while Mexicans dont all look the same, a lot of us do look like her (ie, not white). Again, I never said theres a specific look for Mexicans. Just because Yalitza doesn’t have the stereotypical European features of a Mexican women that doesn’t deem her any less beautiful or worthy. Matter of fact Yalitza is unique and beautiful in her own way, but people would say other wise because they have been brainwashed by watching all the light skin women who dominates Mexican television who aren’t even the accurate representation of Mexico diverse population. 1.- Martha Higareda is well known in México, when she was younger she starred a movie called ‘Amarte Duele’ which is an iconic movie from early 2000’s and sometimes people still makes memes and references about it. She has many movie and tv credits as an actress.
I’ve seen Martha’s recent work in the Netflix series ‘Altered Carbon”.
People sometimes criticize her because of showing nudity in some of her works *rolls eyes*.
2.-Danna Paola is well know since her childhood role (and name of her telenovela) ‘María Belén’ where she interpreted an innocent good girl. At that age she even did a skit with comedian Eugenio Derbez (VERY popular in México), portraying the opposite of her original role and becoming a bully to the character Ludovico P. Luche. She acted really well and was super fun in it, a lot of people have watched that sketch (there’s even a meme with the phrase “me vale”) and a few years ago Eugenio and her reunited in a comedic video making a reference to that.
Danna Paola did another famous adapted telenovela when she was a teenager ‘Atrévete a Soñar’ where she sang ‘Mundo de Caramelo’ which became a very popular song in México.
Danna has also worked in theater and she’s a singer. She has also been a coach for a singers show called ‘La Academia’, where she has a video that went viral and became a meme with different phrases from that video, specially “hay muchas personas queriendo ocupar tu lugar” “yo no estoy aquí por bonita” and “¿Así no soy culera contigo?”. Danna’s most recognized recent work is the one in ‘Elite’.
3.-Belinda. Sometimes I even forget her last name because everyone knows her just with her first name. In México, if someone is talking about a Belinda, she’s the one. She has, somewhat, a similar childhood history as Danna Paola (or better said, Danna Paola has a similar story as Belinda (Belinda is older)), she started acting in telenovelas and singing at a young age. She became very popular. She only acted when she was a child/teenager a couple of times and focused on her singer/songwriter career. I know that she has SOLD OUT concerts and sold a lot of physical albums when she was a teen. Belinda has recently worked as a vocal coach in ‘La Voz’ (The Voice) México and ‘La Voz kids’ and being a singer is still her main focus.
4.-Natasha Dupeyron. I recognize her because of telenovelas, but I didn’t know she was one of the most popular celebrities in México. So, searching quickly on google I think it might be that she might be popular because social media and some of her family are also celebrities (?).
5.- Yalitza Aparicio is WELL known recently in México because of being one of the lead actresses in the movie “ROMA”, because of being indigenous, people started to publicly talk about the situation about indígenas in our country, about how are they disrespected and still receive racism, discrimination, injustice and not having a voice in spaces like in the show biz, so Yalitza became that voice. A lot of people criticized her by her looks and her acting skills (as she hasn’t acted before, she was just finishing university to become a teacher, in the country side) showing to the public that classism is still a big problem in México, that’s why we are really proud of her, she made history and we hope she keeps making it!
6.- I don’t know Ana Brenda Contreras, I’m sorry. I have only watched the first season of Dynasty. So, I don’t think Mexicans really know her.
7.- Eiza Gonzalez became popular with the telenovela ‘Lola, érase una vez’ when she was 17. She didn’t started her career as early as some of the other actresses.
Then she made a few other novelas.
Suddenly she received a lot of public attention when she appeared changed, she had cosmetic surgery and she also gained a lot of criticism and hate because of that, (which is a shame btw, people shouldn’t be that rude). She started to work in international movies in secondary roles, such as ‘Baby Driver’ and in the series ‘From Dusk Till Down’.
She gained international popularity when she appeared at the Oscars red carpet with a yellow dress, everyone was googling her as the girl with the yellow dress.
I like her personality, as she has shown a lot of maturity taking about how she has received that hate for some Mexicans. She also seems a lot of fun... her recent popular role is in the movie ‘I care a lot’ and she also appears in the upcoming ‘Godzilla vs Kong’.
8.- Salma Hayek, I think she’s the more popular Mexican woman in Hollywood. If you are from México or the United States and you don’t know her, I don’t know what’s wrong with you, lol.
But seriously, she has a long career and is well known mainly because of her work in the United States.

Everyone is saying that the Mexican girl is racist towards other Mexicans with more dark skin color but you forget that Koreans have extreme beauty standards about being white? I think she did not speak up her mind but more according to the beuty standards of Korea. I Know Mexican people and they don't care about color. They are not racist because in México there is variety of races.

Yalitza Apricio is very beautiful too, and lets face it, the only reason why she's not considered "pretty" is because she is dark skinned with an indigenous look. It's racism, that's all, even in Mexican shows, casting is mainly for light skinned actors/actresses.

I’m not trying to offend her in anyway it’s just so crazy to me that she didn’t know that.

Whether they consider Yalitza pretty or not pretty, that is the perspective of whoever says so ... but it doesn't mean that she is right. Beauty standards change by person and country. I am happy with my skin color and I do not care at all that they do not consider me pretty because I am not white.

The tone and the choice of words for every white actress vs the ones for Yalitza say it all. Internalized racism at its finest, so deep into so many Latin American people that they're oblivious to it. Talking about 'ooh compared to korean beauty standards...' c'mon. Couldn't you just say she was pretty and a new standard in the industry? It's tiring how non-white beauty always has to be nit-picked and questioned, and diminished.

    • @theeejiremusic
      @theeejiremusic 3 года назад

Like, not even guy next to her whose "beauty standards" are "so different" said anything else but "she's pretty" and that was supposedly the reason she had to make that tasteless comment. It was racist no matter how you try to explain it. A lot of white mestizos have a thing for not accepting their racist attitudes, no matter how you explain it to them. This is an example.

I just read the girl trying to explain herself in some comments, but she said (at least in the translation) "[...] She's not that pretty but she has Mexican traditional image" there is not "compared to others", she just straight up said that she wasn't pretty and it can be read as if it is because of her native features, and honestly, not finding someone atractive or pretty isn't a bad think BUT WHY just why did you had the need to say it? And like that? Nah

Okay everyone listen, there is a big mistake, she didn't said "She's not pretty", She said "She isn't that pretty" making a reference with the tipycal actress everyone know like blonde hair, light eyes, white skin, 'cause the word "that" is pointing that stereotype, is just a translate problem.

I have mixed feelings about popular actresses in Mexico because majority of them look European (because their ancestors probably are). Majority of us don’t look like that.
The way Natalie said she doesnt watch Mexican dramas but still knew so much about the actresses 👌 I’m Mexican and I knew of like 2 or 3 lolol 🤧
Yalitza is beautiful. I’ve always loved the skin, eyes, lips and hair of traditional Mexican women. Well they are just beautiful as a whole really. Traditional Mexican clothing is so beautiful too. Glad she is breaking stereotypes! ✊

No because growing up in mexico and watching telenovelas as a brown skin girl myself i never saw any leading actresses that looked like me. When i saw Roma and the beauty that Yalitza was i finally felt that representation. When Natalia said Yalitza is “not pretty” she is unfortunately exemplifying those stereotypes and believes that many mexican people have on brown skin women and it’s sad.

A light-skin Mexican calling a brown or darker-skinned Mexican not pretty, I'm not surprised. Mexico and many Latin American countries have a colorism mindset that is deeply engraved, it's sad that they always bring down Indigenous Mexicans down.
