Consider myself very lucky to have seen the Jerry Garcia Band (JGB) twice in the 90's. Jerry was a great performer, and he brought tons of energy and good feelings to his shows with his Guitar playing and singing. That distinctive Hammond B3 sound was provided by Mr. Melvin Seals, who is still active and using the JGB name. Very groovy.
First JGB show 1971 at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco and I met the band in March of 1971 in Providence Rhode Island at the local hockey team and they put plywood on the ice so the stage was only about 6 feet high. Jerry was sitting on the floor of the stage with his legs hanging over the edge playing an unplugged guitar so I saw him and walked over and I said my name was Stephen and shook his hand and he said his name was Jerry and he was smiling at me and I asked him if I could sit behind the amps and he said sure just go around the right side of the stage and said Ram Rod would let me in so I did and they were using equipment cases to block people from just trying to get to where I was going. I helped him move the cases around to get me through. He said thanks and I said thank you and said my name was Stephen and he said it was Ram Rod and said I was going to sit behind the amps and he said watch out for cables and then went to what he was doing and I went through the first opening between the amps and I find Bear dropping liquid acid on the back of people’s hands and then they licked it off. I stuck my hand out and he put four big drops on it and I licked it off. I thanked him and said I was going to sit behind Pigpen and got a spot a bit away and back from his left side so I could watch him play his harp. I loved the old black guys that played them. I really loved Lighting Hopkins and Pigpen some of his songs. At the first set break I wandered over to look at the equipment and after a hit of checking out the stuff Jerry walked over and passed me a big fat joint and we passed it back and forth and there was about half left when people saw what we were doing I said thanks and I am tripping my noodles out at this point and I see. Bear and asked him if I could get some of his goods and he hooked me up with his local dealer. The first douses I got were pale blue and if you looked at them tripping they seemed to have glow. I also got his MDA and that was like a LSD bomb. Let’s say it was extremely intense. met my wife at a show and just want say that Jerry changed my life completely along with the crew and I say thank you ,all of you. LSD and electric guitars changed everything for me and you. I love Sara’s reactions as she listens to the songs. I loved talking people who had never been before. Their reactions were very much like Shara responses are. Loving you loving them makes me happy. ⚡️🎸⚡️
Jerry had such a cool sound. If you didn't know he was from the Bay area, you might think he was Cajun by the way he popped notes on his Strat. Jerry was awesome.
I saw the Jerry Garcia Band three times in the 70's. One was at the Calderone Theater in Hempstead Long Island NY, one at the Commack Arena in Long Island (the opening acts were The Robert Hunter Band and The New Riders of The Purple Sage) and I can't remember the other place (I'm getting old) 😂 His solo projects were great because the music was different from the Grateful Dead music. I also saw the Dead about 20 times in the 70's and 80's.
I love how the music moves you. I’ve always said that Jerry Garcia got me dancing more than all the pretty girls. I could never sit still when he played. ✌️❤️🎶

Jerry Garcia is a bit like the Greatful Dead. When you hear them play, you just have to dance.😊
Written by Buffalo Norton, preformed by JGB
Norton Buffalo was a great harmonica player and singer..I have an old album of him.👍
Oh! There's another song you could react to. Steel Magnolia live by the Greatful Dead 🙏 😊❤
Um...do you mean "Sugar Magnolia"? "Steel Magnolias" is a movie.

There is a nice video available of this song by Roy Rogers and Norton Buffalo(who wrote the song). You would probably enjoy that.
