Having to slowly build up myself, and get gear for my daughters who are keen to come along, as well as my nephews. A nz perspective on starter gear would be amazing

@@tewaewae I guess each hunter is different and it depends on what you want to get out of the sport. Some guys hunt farms some guys hunt the publicl land. There will always be fundamental skills required for both Technology has certainly helped finding and shooting deer, thermals , HD Binos etc…

Yes could be!, mine is a few years old now, not an amoled screen model!, but definatley causes spots etc more noticeable at night of course! Great piece of kit, I've spotted animals I didn't know were there right in front of me, great for the old "pest control" 😊

@@rogeeproductions2509 I’ve got a Ruger m77 mkii .308 in an MDT LSS chassis with a Timney trigger that is entirely more accurate than it has any right to be. We’re talking sub 1” 10 shot groups on repeat with 168 gr eld-m bullets, and it slaps deer for sure, the recoil is vicious considering the downrange performance. Sure, a suppressor mitigates it to an extent, but would have the same mitigating performance on a cartridge with similar recoil and better downrange performance, like the 6.5 PRC, or considerably less recoil and similar downrange performance, like the 6.5 Creedmoor. Ps. Just picked up a Tikka t3x in .223 rem as a training rifle today! Looking forward to it.
I noticed you’ve mentioned ELD-M bullets in the 300wsm and AMax rounds in the .308 in the US neither is considered a “hunting” bullet why those particular bullets and is it a coincidence they are both Hornady products?
When I started reloading for both rifles many many moons ago, Amax pills were the best performing at the time and they killed well . So Ive kinda just stuck with match bullets
