I was just thinking about buying my first VR headset sometime this year, so this news is actually very timely! The question remains, though, of whether it'll be a better idea to buy the 2 second-hand just after the 3 comes out, or to get the 3 straight away. Backwards compatability, price, availability will all be factors and it's still a little early to know for sure.
If it's around the £350 mark I'll get it on release, after playing with my dad's Pico 4 the pancake lenses alone are worth it. Just pray you're right about the headstrap options, I can't go back from halo straps
I am definitely going to be getting a quest 3 my only question is should I wait a little bit after it comes out to see if it works well or should I just get it as soon as possible
My one gripe about the charging port, despite it being able to hopefully support third party straps, is that the headset likely will not be compatible with the Frankenquest setup with the HTC Vive Deluxe Audio Strap due to it not having that hole on it, and they likely ain’t gonna make one comparable with it because the Frankenquest is a mod in the first place.
Some of the Frankenquest mods shift the point where the DAS connects further behind the hinge. With that in mind having an opening over the hinge with a flat area that connects to the das further back seems fairly doable.
We need to get some metaverse worlds conversations going. Worlds for metaverse interactions. Like metaverses based on movies, tv shows, music, games and books like harry potter, terminator, wizard of Oz, walking dead, ricky and morty, Metallica, Mozart, Brutal legend, call of duty. Rocky, elder scrolls. The Meta Horizon app can act as a gateway to these worlds. Or they can just build their own worlds, or both. 😁
I had to sell my Quest 2 because it was hurting my forehead because of the way it's built. I hope the Quest 3 will not have that problem. I currently use a Valve headset.
People keep talking about the high price of the psvr 2 but the original psvr was $400 and required you to buy a PlayStation camera and 2 move controllers which cost... about $560 total. The same price (ish) as the psvr 2. This isn't even including inflation. Also, the meta quest 256gb version is $500 which I think is a much more fair comparison to the psvr 2 because many vr games are large and if you get the smaller storage meta quest 2 you're going to have to do a lot of deleting and redownloading of games, unless you only plan on having a few games. But if you only plan on having a few games then what's the point really? To top it off, the psvr2 headset is much lighter and you don't have to worry about the battery dying. If the quest 2 gets 2 hours of vr game time max when it's new then you're going to have to recharge it often. If you recharge consumer electronics often then the battery degrades faster. How long before the 2 hour battery life of the quest 2 becomes just 1 hour? At that point it basically needs to be plugged in to be used, just like a psvr. A lot of consumer products nowadays don't have easily replaceable batteries, so are you just supposed to buy a new quest every cycle or every other product cycle? Seems expensive in the long run. With a psvr you know you'll be able to use it for the whole ps5 cycle at least.
imagine META did a thing where you could trade in your previous headset for the next version up from that with the cost of not having a headset for a while while they like transfer data or something and at least a decent cost of the new headset gone
Pico4 is basically the quest 3 with a weaker processor and probably a bit less colourful displays. Since I'm on PCVR 99% its basicaly a quest3 already :) I'm good for a few years.
Quest 3 will probably have WiFi 6e for 6ghz wireless vr, AV1 decoding for even more efficient encoding (higher quality for given bitrate, by 30% compared to hevc), and processor may be twice as fast for even higher bitrate decoding capability. So PCVR wired & wireless should get a huge quality boost.
@@hussain-x with a single display panel Q3 will likely have limited ipd adjustment and smaller fov on wider ipd settings. Also, it will likely have lower resolution due to decreased utilization of single panel display. Overall I expect it to be inferior to Pico 4 for PCVR despite the gen 2 chip.
Good Morning Mystical. TY for your videos. Always good info. I appreciate you. 😊 I’ll definitely be buying the Quest3. Probably the 4 too, if it is made for consumer use.

I’m still playing PCVR titles that were launched quite a few years back so if Sony can get more developers to start developing ground up VR titles rather than add ons, that would be a good step forward for the whole industry. Who knows, maybe we might even see them on PCVR ports. A PS5 with PSVR2 is expensive? What’s Carmack smoking? I guess he hasn’t checked out what a decent spec PC that can run Assetto Corsa Competizione and Dirt Rally 2 with just a Quest 2 at a rock solid 90fps would cost
It was completely moronic to me for them to increase the price of the Quest when sales slowed down. When demand lowers it makes more sense to lower the price.
What if the Quest 3 comes out without the controllers, you will be able to connect ones from Quest 2, Quest Pro and they would sell Quest 3 controllers at a discounted price for those that are bying them with the Quest 3.
I got some prescription lens inserts for the Quest 2 that snugly fit over top of the lens elements. Anyone know if those will fit the Quest 3 ? i.e. will the eye pieces in the Quest 3 have the same exact shape?
Meta needs to step up the AAA games with the Quest 3. Star Wars Squadrons and Hitman level games should run NO problem. Those run on base ps4. Quest 3 is nearly double that performance
My Quest 2 still has an encoding issue when using a link cable. Unplayable. Myself and others aren't hopeful that it will get fixed after months of it being an issue now. I'm not risking it with Quest 3--they don't let you rollback software to a functional version, so if they mess something up and can't figure out what's causing a new issue, you're shit out of luck. If I can afford it, I'm going to try not to miss out on Valve's next headset. I'm already getting PS VR2 and would love any level of compatibility with PC. I'm probably going to play every new VR game that comes along on my PS5 if possible. Games like GT7 and RE8 have made people who have played them in VR say that they look just as good as they do on a flat screen, and achieving a stable 120 fps with reprojection (which I never really noticed on PS VR1, so reprojection doesn't bother me). So I might as well play the version of a new game that I know will run amazing out of the box, has eye-tracking, advanced haptic feedback in the controllers and headset, and adaptive triggers. The only ones I'll play on PC will be exclusive to it because the developers hate money or they're Valve. And of course if a game has a killer mod(s).
We kind of already knew some of these things from leaks, but it's always nice to have confirmations. I wonder how close the leaks are going to be to what we get? I guess we will find out later this year!

It turns out I am not the only one who has had this issue, and I think bringing attention to it will make it more likely to be patched out very quickly.
I'm looking forward to the quest 3 but, unless I'm mistaken, it won't really be out til October/November time frame, the connect event and every time I read something that says "later this year" I want to metaphorically punch a puppy lmao :) because that wording makes a person feel like " oh, in a few months, great" but the reality is almost a full year, almost so NOT soon lol. But ya, looking forward to it coming out.
thanks for the update buddy Great Job, have a kicks VR weekend!
Seems nice, but I think I’ll go for the PSVR2 coming out in a few weeks, I already play on PS5 and PSVR was my introduction to vr, games like RE7 and Astrobot blew my mind at the time, can’t wait!
Wow, Meta cranking out them headsets... Look forward to it! Sound like a much more affordable Quest Pro...
Hopefully has the same controllers, the camera placement on the headset seems too awkward for standard inside out tracking
@@ZedDevStuff found the same conclusion earlier today. Should be great for stability, but they'll be costly and a tough pill if you ever need to replace one or both.
@@WesleyFiles Unless they replace those too under some conditions
@@ZedDevStuff they won't have the same controllers sadly as the Pro controllers are expensive . I read somewhere from a good source that there is no chance Pro controllers will come with Quest 3 but you can buy them separately .
the odd part is it cant be *better* than the quest pro or else why does it exist. the quest pro would have to be better than quest 3 at its price tag bc if it isnt then quest 3 would be better AND cheaper making the pro a no buy for anyone
May I make you aware you said LCD Panel(s) and if you recheck Brad has said its going to be a single panel ;)
so the pro has 2 one for each lense while the 3 will be like the 2 and only have 1?
@@thedoomslayer5863 so FOV would be the same to Q2 :((
@@thedoomslayer5863 Yes as a single panel will cost less than 2 separate panels obviously to keep the build cost down.
Definitely upgrading. This looks perfect
I'm interested to see what the battery life would look like, we see the quest pro battery life, and its decent but the quest 2 battery life is excellent. I wonder with the new chips and extra cameras how the battery life will perform on quest 3.
Use a power bank
@@Ernismeister I shouldn't need to do all that to play, however I get your point
I really wish the Q3 form was closer to the QPro. The weight distribution is so much nicer and honestly I hate the middle head strap. It would be nice if it was optional for gaming but not necessary. I absolutely hate having a split down the middle of my hair after playing games or hell just watching something in my headset. It's already bad enough I have red marks on my face or forehead.
That doesn’t happen unless you wear it incorrectly you are probably making it too tight unless it is some other medical reason or something.
@CyberQuest2 I have a Quest 1. It has always left red marks. It's very front heavy. I also use a halo strap now because I didn't like how the original strap put a split down my hair. Neither have given me relief from red marks the halo strap is better.
I’m still on a quest 1. I wanted a quest 2 but my parents said I don’t need one since I already have the quest 1. Hopefully the 3 will be enough of an upgrade for them to consider getting it, especially since they’re ending support for the quest 1
Me too. I was going to get a Quest 2 until I heard that the blacks now look grey because it used an LCD panel instead of OLEDs, and now unfortunately it looks like they're about to make the same stupid mistake yet again. I'll still wait for the reviews, but at this rate I think they've lost me.
Im still waiting on the Pimax crystal which I have on preorder and I will be getting the quest 3 when it comes out
Meta Quest 3 will be compatible with steam apps and using your pc as the app's source? Like with airlink in quest2
Got me hoping for the 300 dollar range, because VR prices REALLY need to be coming down.
won't be $300
Meta headsets are sold at a loss, there's no way they can keep selling us their headsets or so cheap. Look at the competition, most VR setups are close to $1000 in the end
These guys killed the only game I was playing in VR. If I ever buy another headset, it won’t be produced by Meta for sure.
I purchased corrective lenses for the quest 2. I wonder if I could attach them to the quest 3 or if I'll need newb ones.
@The Mysticle scam ya?
I was just thinking about buying my first VR headset sometime this year, so this news is actually very timely! The question remains, though, of whether it'll be a better idea to buy the 2 second-hand just after the 3 comes out, or to get the 3 straight away. Backwards compatability, price, availability will all be factors and it's still a little early to know for sure.
as a two year owner of the quest 2, I would get the quest 3 when it comes out.
The hole isn't exactly circular, but it resembles the Oculus logo. Pretty sneaky.
Do you know if we will be able to transfer our games from quest 2 to quest 3
Thank god I held myself from buying the Quest 2, now I have enough money to upgrade my Quest 1 to Quest 3
I suppose all the choice of controllers will be your choice to link to the quest three
Can't wait, hopefully there is a good trade in deal
I'll be buying my first VR headset soon so hopefully the quest 3 is somewhat affordable.
Its gonna be the same as the quest 2
@@InnerAnimations then why are they calling it the quest 3
@@ad1340yt because $$$
@@ad1340yt no not the name of course it gonna be called the quest 3 I was talking about the price
i just bought the quest pro waiting for delivery. did i just waste my money?
If it's around the £350 mark I'll get it on release, after playing with my dad's Pico 4 the pancake lenses alone are worth it. Just pray you're right about the headstrap options, I can't go back from halo straps
I guess that announcement of Quest 1 entering its end-of-support cycle is part of the game pushing owners to upgrade probably to Quest 3.
no thanks, we don't need a meta monopoly on VR
I guess im kind of waiting for the quest 4 i didnt really know i was till you talked about it.
Was waiting for another video from Mr Popsycle
It sucks that the quest 3 might not work with the quest 2 elite strap bc I don’t want to buy a new head strap.
Nice ! Is that red AE86 yours !?
I had to sell my Quest 2 because it was hurting my forehead because of the way it's built. I hope the Quest 3 will not have that problem. I currently use a Valve headset.
I like how the render looks the same as the quest 2 but slim version which I like
The 3 cameras make a roman 3 (III) and I just find it cool
If PSVR2 was compatible with PC I'd totally buy it.
imagine META did a thing where you could trade in your previous headset for the next version up from that with the cost of not having a headset for a while while they like transfer data or something and at least a decent cost of the new headset gone
Can't wait to play Echo Arena on a Quest 3! Oh wait right... :
Ouch
@The Mysticle Yeah I'm going to miss that game. It was one of the first multiplayer VR games I had gotten a few years back.
Good Morning Mystical. TY for your videos. Always good info. I appreciate you. 😊 I’ll definitely be buying the Quest3. Probably the 4 too, if it is made for consumer use.
The Playstation vr 2 is simply amazing it definitely add to the immersion with the headset feedback added with the haptics on the controller is truly next level VR
why they aint puttin the battery bank in the back tho? thats like one of the best things about the pro. I guess they wanna sell that elite strap and keep costs down
If my head straps and accessories from quest 2 don't work or fit on quest 3 I don't think I'll upgrade 😢
Question, what do you mean? Samsung was the original gear. What do you mean by gear?
I bought the quest 2 very early and am now stuck with 64 gigs.. can't wait for quest 3
Is the pro better than quest 3?
Hopefully they've worked out whatever it is that's giving me headaches after wearing the quest 2. I was thinking of getting the quest pro, but I only need it for things like BigScreen, and mixed reality. But if Apple's headset is next level I might have to save up for that.
A tight headstrap tends to give me headaches. Did you try out a third party headstrap option? Something with more of a "halo" fit helps me.
@@WesleyFiles I thought about it, but some people were saying it didn't fix their headaches. I didn't want to waste my bread. At this point I rather just wait for one of the newer lighter headsets. It's between Quest 3 and the Apple at the moment.
@@Romelle81 Leaks from insiders have put the Apple VR headset at around $3,000. I know it's going to be a beast of a headset, but that's a crazy amount of money for a headset that doesn't come with or use controllers.
Hey Mysticle wanna go bowling?
Should i get the quest pro or wait for quest 3?
this was unexpected but sounds good haha
Tbh I'm happy with my pico4, I will with it until someone release a headset that include DP port + OLED+ pancake lens
I think the new camera rig looks waay cooler. Looks like an android vision style. Before we just had a blank space. I prefer the new look.
You said exactly what I think with the PSVR2. Not worth buying for a tiny selection of exclusive games. Most are already available on pcvr and quest.
After seeing what they did with the quest 1 and ending support I cannot buy another one of these units ever again.
Will I need to get a new halo headband for the quest 3
Is that US dollars? If so, how much will it be in Australia then
100% gonna upgrade to quest 3
Just based on the form factor I might have to get the quest 3.
when i get quest 3 meta will tell me to buy quest 4
I would like to have the psvr2 able to connect to your PC.
What if the Quest 3 comes out without the controllers, you will be able to connect ones from Quest 2, Quest Pro and they would sell Quest 3 controllers at a discounted price for those that are bying them with the Quest 3.
Now that PSVR is just a couple of weeks away my interest in Quest almost zero...
PSVR2 is my VR future for the coming years, can't wait! 🙂
Very nice video!
I didn't realize you're Irish till you said part.👍
I've been thinking about buying a quest 2, but now I''m wondering if I should wait for the quest 3. Should I wait or should I get a quest 2 now?
i now have a Meta Quest 2 that in may will become 1 year old so i think i will just wait for the Quest 4
Quest 3 is going to be way more popular than Quest 2. It's like PS1 to PS2. I'm seriously excepting near 100M sales of it.
What worries me about Meta's monopolization is not only the competition aspect but that they force unhealthy levels of unnatural censorship.
They really should make wider FOV in excess of 200 degrees.
