Dude, I think it's a brilliant idea with the videoes of you making the mixes. Not that I don't like the pictures you have used so far. They are great. But with a picture you just look for a while, and then leave the screen (with the cordless headphones set to the max of course). The other day when I watched/heard the other mix, I was glued to the screen all the way through. And had an awesome time I might add. As you know I always bring your mixes to work in my mp3 player (get's me through a lot of rotten days), but I think the videos is a cool bonus when listening sitting at the computer. Such a shame that it's only possible to give one thumbs up, because you have an entire truckload coming. Stay awesome mate. Soundrookie.
I guess I could but since progressive-psy is a slow genre and is used to keep people in a steady trance I don't think there's much place for mashups and crazy mixing techniques. But I could give a try. Thanks for the suggestion =)
Thanks. Have you tried mixing darkpsy? It's not that hard. It's a very destructurized, unpredictable and usually doesn't follow a harmony. So it's hard to do something that sound bad while mixing. Anyway, I might do one in the future.
Mixin' Psytrance is a difficult to mix and a unique than any genres, Cuz there are tracks the kicks in mid area are clashing and doesnt sound good with the outgoing track. So heads up ! I recommend listen to each track carefully and play it in my cue in headphone if the tracks got kick is sound good enough with the outgoing track so play it. Anyway if the kicks are clashing drop mix swap the mids I mix these tracks on 10 oclock mid and high but make sure the song close in 2 semitones than each other that it'll be sound correct
chingon video yo voy empezando y estaria chido un video mezclando progre brother a y por cierto cuanto cuesta ese controlador y que modelo es esta perron
Duuuude I learn how to mix psy correctly , doing matchup, use effect... everything from you .well first : marry me ? And then, where are you??? Plz come back, would love to have a chat with u. Kiss from France
Hi, very instructive advices. I'm on Traktor too but when i mix two tracks together and for example I cut the bass of track A to put those of track B, the bass isn't clean there's a disagreeable sound on bass.. Maybe a problem of tonality ? Hope you can help me. Keep on going :)
How do you deal with intros long ones like a synth or something like that? I'm mixing with cdj"s some of my tracks only have a kick 16 bars before the first break. that's really short.I hope someone understands what I'm trying to say and can give me some advice. I'm a house Dj haven't mixed psy in like 6 years.
Hey, sorry for the late reply. 99% of all psytrance and prog-psy have intros. You just skip it and start mixing when you have the bassline going. An easy way to handle this is to set a hotcue on the first kick when you're prepairing your tracks.
@@Sychro Thank you. I'm mixing with cd's and that's what I normally do. But the other day one Dj there told me he does melody mixing. Seems like he just throws in the track and changes before the beat drops he changes over. Personally, I'm a perfectionist I can't do it like that. I learned on the Stanton 3.24 but the club has pioneer 250 and 800. I'm not so familiar with those. On the stantons, I would look for the first bassline by wheel and then cue . This takes time. I was just wondering if there's a better way. easier
@@albertblaauw2082 Yeah, I know what you mean. I just can't do that, it's lazy. Spotify with 10s auto-crossfade could do that. Unless you're using rekordbox compatible CDJs where you can prepare your tracks on the computer and assign hotcues or use a laptop with any DJ software, then you're out of luck. You'll need to manually search for the first bassline drop.
BPM can be adjusted upto 6% (more will sound weird). If your question is how to mix songs that have VERY different BPM, then my answer is "I don't do that". This is supposed to be a psytrance set, any trance set shouldn't have abrupt change of BPM. That will probably disrupt the trance, the trip people are supposed to be having. So I always try to make bpm changes gradually and smoothly. Sounds better and feels better for the body and mind ;)
I didn't say all psytrance is the same BPM. I said I don't do abrupt changes. If you're playing a track of 136bpm, and then mix a 148bpm one, will sound awful and will disrupt the people's trance. It's called trance for a reason you know? But what am I even bother? You just want to throw shit in the comments. Have a good day mate!
Don't think I'm going to react and start a flamewar just because a random stranger is bullshiting in the comments of my video. Anyway all I could read was "blablablabla". This is my channel so I guess you're the one who should go away. But first, I would like to listen some of your work. I'm all ears MATE ;)
Well it's a lot easier like this, When it's digital. using CDJ 1000 or CDJ 2000 you won't have the opportunity's there like you have here. Like auto Que/Auto Sync..
I'd like to ask, do people generally use cue points to start the next track, so it comes up in time, or can I just start it from the very beginning? If I can, how do I know when is the right time to start the track, so it will match with the previous one? Is it an important thing in psytrance mixing, to start the next track in the exact right time? How can I learn that?
Since I am too a beginner DJ, I will write what I have found and learned within few weeks of practicing it. Cue points are good to mark the 32 or 16 bar lenght, due to some songs have longer intros, and weird lenghts, it helps to pinpoint exact lenght from the drop, or the breakdown part. You can always use cue points, thats why they are there. To start the tune from beginning, you do need a track what matches good, like similar drops, buildups, intro, and these you can figure out by just practicing, you will figure out the best matches by accident or by knowing the track well. Right time also doesnt exist, but there is good time and bad time. You again need to test and try alot things with the tracks, to find out what is the best, i have few songs which have same note, everything same, it sounds even the same, but due to some small sounds in it, it sounds like a total fuckup. Yet i have found songs what are miles apart, but sound awesome when you mix em together, makes it have like progressive feel what makes it sound like 1 big track. Knowing when to start the track at the right time is important in the beginnig(My level), cause that way you can just learn how to make proper switches, seamless mixing n stuff. After you know your tracks well, drops and everything, good mashups and perfect combos, you can just start to have fun and test new ideas.
The last one absolutely blew my mind, great work!
This helped a lot, thank you! :)

7:30 , my mind exploded!
When I do the bass swap method the track comes in loud and over powers the mix.... it does not sound right. What am I doing wrong?
Did you create that upsweep sound at 5:20 yourself or is it part of the song , If yes what effect was it ?
Thanks :)
But this way to mix, Just be right if the tracks are the same tone? Or i can do this With All tracks?

Depends on the song. Some songs don't start on a 'grid' so always make sure the very begging is like 32 beats or 64 or whatever before the drop.
