The year is 2245. A child cries in their bed, and their mother comes to comfort them.
"Don't worry sweetheart, Summoners will be getting Ramuh in the next expansion"
"What does that mean Mommy?"
"Its just a saying meaning accept that life doesn't give you what you want. Go back to sleep"
it's up to us humans to tell the old tales that connect us to our ancestors.
I hope Yoshi sees this
I love that i can send this to people who dont want spoilers. Quite literally no spoilers in this video lmfao.
Not sure what they thought with putting in a Bahamut variation in there for SMN. The only thing I can think of is that the devs needed to save time so they opted for this. Like you said, I hoped for a bit more complexity.
I would have been fine with it if it were Odin or Susanoo we summoned, y'know a different summon out of the myriad of primals we've faced.
And you know Susanoo would be down to party with us!
Oh well.
Upon being summoned, "Let the rrrrevels... begin!"
Upon using Enkindle, "REJOIIICE!"
Upon leaving, "What a memorable dance indeed!"
So... you get 1 new oGCD attack every 2 minutes and absolutely everything else is mechanically the same?
i mean summoner is ment to be the beginners job that was the whole point of its previous rework
if it aint broke, don't fix it
@@Volfur2251 Yes, let's encourage players to use the simplest job in the game, in a game where the main criticism from new players is how slow combat is at low levels.
@@Rill_1 unironically SMN is the best caster DPS at low levels tho, you have a real rotation that aligns with your max level rotation. meanwhile BLM is a mess at low levels and RDM is just boring (not enough mana at low levels)
@@Rill_1 Not everyone feels the same way. I have someone in my FC who only played healer the entire time for years on this game. They only just now dabbled with dps and were just completely overwhelmed and lost on what to do, even with trying to find guides. Summoner was the one they clung on to because it is very simple to get the hang of compared to the complexity of other jobs. You might be a little more experienced, but trust me, there are players out there who find a comfort area in the game and will be thankful a job like summoner exists so they can potentially join everyone else in doing content without holding them back.
I didn't have high hopes for summoner and I still got disappointed XD
I find it odd that, for a job that literally just loops its rotation while spamming a single button, that they missed an extremely easy opportunity to rotate different summons. Like your first loop is the standard titan, garuda, ifrit, and then the second loop could be like leviathan, ramuh, shiva. Hell, they could have different summons based on which post phase you're in whether it be after bahamut or phoenix.
I get that a lot of people find the current version of SMN boring, but its safe to say they want SMN to be the "noob" job. Even still though.... I feel like they could have been more creative with the rotation, at least in terms of job fantasy by giving it more variety in summons without really changing its core loop design. Feels like they felt SMN was popular enough and just put it at the bottom of the list of importance and then they were like "oh right, smn, we gotta give them something new. Lets just give them another Bahamut."
I have a feeling that they are gonna do something like that for the 8.0 expansion, since they've already said that they are gonna really explore each jobs fantasy then. One can only hope...
this is what I was imagining, like almost exactly. Increase your gauge to six gems. Maybe choose when to bring out Phoenix vs bahamut
@@williamsampson306 I feel like a lot of people had similar conclusions as it was the most logical next step. I'm honestly shocked at how little attention they gave to SMN.
@@williamsampson306 They're trying to keep it simple, so anyone dreaming they will let you choose from an open ended selection are likely to continue being disappointed. ESPECIALLY Phoenix vs Bahamut, since right now they share a button.
On the other hand, having every other gem set be Ramuh/Leviathan/Shiva could be done, and rather easily if they just made them reskins of Titan/Garuda/Ifrit.
Agreed. Instead of other Summons, they wasted their time arguing if they should keep Rez 😂 and went like oopps it almost DT. Nevermind.
You know what I feel sad about this change? Is that next expansion we still won't be getting other gem summons since we need to make way for Solar Phoenix. 😢 Who asked for this?
not solar phoenix, lunar bahamut
Summon Bahamut > Bahamut phase > Summon Garuda/Ifrit/Titan rotation > Summon Phoenix > Phoenix phase > now you can summon Ramuh/Shiva/Leviathan with new attacks or maybe just reskin of Garu/Titan/Iffy attacks > completing the summon rotation will give you the opportunity to use the finishing summon: summon Odin, that will just pop to use Zantetsuken (high damage with a very low chance of instadeath effect) or Gungnir against enemies immune to instadeath (like savage raid and extreme bosses).
This is my ffxiv smn dream
Kind of wished they’d have added unique perks/mechanics to each summon so they’d actually have given the job a fun rotation besides just being damage
Having summoner be my main caster job (or at least my strongest one) I genuinely hate this
like, I'm happy the job wasn't reworked, I like how it plays, but they did not fixed my 1 problem while adding another one:
-They neither made the pet Caruncle do more, nor fixed whatever piece of spaghetti code that kept it mandatory up to this point
-Solar Bahamut just feels... wrong, it doesn't have the same narrative weight as Demi-Bahamut and Demi-Phoenix, and with Job Quests stopping at level 70 (excluding the lv80 epilogues) there's no guarantee it will be given any proper background. The fact it's Enkindle is "Exodus", a.k.a Hydaelyn's ultimate attack, tells me they might have planned a demi-Hydaelyn and scrapped it
I can’t believe how unbelievably stupid this is. We could have had ANY other summon but instead we have… two Bahamuts. What a colossal missed opportunity.
I agree on that. I like having a third big summon, but it could’ve something different, not a renamed bahamut.
Did anyone ask him about physick??? Or did they think the kit would look even more barren if they removed that?
Looks like it's still there on the hotbar.
@@Rollenstone I know but did anyone at the media tour ask him “””why”””
@MrRamo14 Yeah I hoped they would have deleted it for smn but I wonder if it has to do with the jank of it being tied to Arcanist.
I saw it used somewhere else, it heals for ~635 HP. At level 100. Insane.
@@Rollenstone it doesn't really need to exist on a technical level, they're actually different spells now on a purely technical level, they just don't seem to care about doing anything to summoners one which is just odd
When they removed half the abilities from the job in Endwalker and streamlined it we all thought it was in preparation for adding a bunch of cool stuff later.
Man. We were dumb Huh
Speak for yourself mate.
i mean they did say they weren't gonna add or change anything with summoner till 8.0.. but i assume people once again choose to ignore that information that was given out.. Anyone expecting more deserve to be disappointed
@@Volfur2251If they said that, then it was recently, not a long time ago, so people are right to feel disappointed.
Complete missed opportunity to add Shiva, Ramuh and Leviathan to be used on Phoenix phase.....
remember how some people were on copium in endwalker saying ew smn was just a base to build off of?
remember how it was pointed out that shb mch also went through the same song and dance and it never got any new job mechanics in ew?
history has repeated itself
To the surprise of so few people to, I was hoping we’d at least get like, Leviathan, Shiva and Ramuh just to finally finish the six elements and round out our summons.
Instead we get a fanfic version of bahamut that, to the surprise of literally nobody, works exactly like Phoenix, who works exactly like Bahamut does.
I expected damn near nothing, and I’m still disappointed, they had better fix the job come 8.0
isnt pre ShB MCH horrible?
@@setsuna5919people were divided on it. If you had good ping it was great bad and you could never play it. It was really fun for those who liked it, because it was a rush to put as much damage in a small burst window, and when ShB came and changed everything that people liked about it took a while for people to like it. Most HW MCH just left the job all together because it was too different. It still has the same problem of ping but it’s not as fun as it used to be.
Yes i remember lol, absolute copium my guy.
@@dobajoba5869 I huff it everyday
searing light duration reduction may mean a change to the job's rotation. 30 seconds meant you could get all of a titan cycle plus the cast of garuda and a slipstream if you swiftcast it, but now that's not going to be the case. Might mean a new optimal summon order emerges to capture maximum damage during the buff window as well as freeing up swiftcast to be used either for movement or raising.
Lux Solaris also means summoner is going to be doing more passive healing than before. That plus rekindle plus everlasting flight means every four minutes, three of your enkindle phases will come with a heal attached as opposed to every other enkindle.
End of the day, though, I'm with you that I'd have preferred not another bahamut.... I know it was a bit of a pipedream with how the quest went, but getting Alexander as an enkindle would have felt a bit more epic to me.
Probably can only get a demi and titan in now.
I was kind of hoping for something to shake up the rotations a bit more than reducing a buff duration and figuring out where to put one extra button press. I figured they'd want to keep the job fairly simple, but this doesn't feel like it fixes what a lot of people disliked about EW Summoner. Adding flashy new Bahamut animations every other cycle isn't going to change that.
The bar I set was low, and they dug the ground just so they could go below it.
What confuses me is Solar Bahamut being separate from regular Bahamut. Wouldn't it make more sense to just upgrade the existing skill instead of giving a whole new one that does the same thing but slightly better?
Personally glad they didn't, I like regular Bahamut's design way more :/ Would have been better if they just made the third something an actually new summon rather than a variant of one we already have.
I'm so sad we didn't get Ramuh/Shiva/Leviathan, this would have been the perfect time to add more egis. They went out of their way to give stuff like PLD more flavor for abilities that are functionally the same... They could easily just had a second set of Summons that function similar to the other three after use Phoenix or Solar Bahamut. >:
daily reminder that egi colors were promised like 8 years ago or smth. Modders replace bahamut with thomas the tank engine, meanwhile the devs are too stupid to add recolors to a model xD
I loved Endwalker smn. That brought it far more in-line with what a Final Fantasy summoner job is. But this is just… Why did they keep Fester and Painflare? Why not replace them with primal themed attacks from the ones we currently do not summon? WHY a SECOND Bahamut?? We could have gotten Odin, or one of the other many different primals already in the game that actually make sense… Why go out of your way to create a new Bahamut model and give us this weird new thing? I mean, they could have just upgraded our current Bahamut into this Solar version and given us Odin or something that actually already has an in-game model, because it’s one of many, many primals that already exist in the game… These decisions gave me a migraine. I give up trying to understand their logic in this.
Honestly I'm with you here. A bunch of people were mad at the rework and now they do something really strange instead of what the remainder of the community wanted.
It’s too bad they don’t do something like a buildable elemental summoner gauge. Like using fire based attacks into water based attacks gives access to lighting (ramuh). Idk something like combining two opposing elements and summons lets you lead up to a more powerful summon based on the combination you used to build up your gauge. And some summons could have a single target hit while others an aoe so you have to build elements in the right order to access single target attacks or aoe. Either way summoner could use a little added complexity to how you rotate through summons. I know they want it to be an easier class, but they have to know that the rotation is a bit stale. Especially before 90.
I was hoping to see a few more summons, like leviathan or shiva wouldve been nice, theyre historically some of the strongest and consistent eikons in other ff games, i wouldnt even care if the job was mostly the same, just the feeling of a few more summons wouldve been nice
Thank you Mr.Happy, your review only confirms what I was fearing, that for the first time since 2.0 I will NOT main SMN. Any other thing they could have done would have been better....but ANOTHER bahamut, with the same 3 skills, one of them an aoe heal (srsly) and no new things to do or use in our 2 min rotation....I was fine with the Endwalker changes as that meant a big leap closer to what a SMN should be (we finally SUMMON primals) but this feels like somebody hard pressed the brakes.
I feel super disapointed, to the point I even considered not playing the exp at release. But I feel intrigued for the Viper Job and I will play as that (first time I will play this game as Melee DPS, wish me luck).
Totally thought Necrotize was Ramuh lightning in the Dawntrails Benchmark vid lol
fitting that the new spell is called necrotize; thats what they've been doing to summoner
also, know which other eikon is a light eikon and way more beloved? thats right, our boi Alex
@@leovictorsr Perfect Alexander punching something in the face is about the only thing that give me a shred of joy playing the new SMN.
@@KanaKuroko in 3 years maybe, please look forward to it
I just want Odin summon. Boy's been severely underutilized in FF14
@@JoSan3 same josan, odin is cool as hell and how they used him in FF16 makes me want more rep on him in 14
Adding the big summons in EW was good but the whole gemshine thing needs to go. They need to come up with something more involved for the base rotation that involves more than 1 button spam.
Solution Nine and no Ramuh, but you get a lazy Bahamut clone. Even worse is upgrading Fester, a leftover from old Summoner dots. It's almost impressive how bad they messed this up.
Let's start a petition and change Solarwhocaresmut to Hydaelyn Blessing! So keep the glowing wing figure but change to Hydaelyn ( fragment of her power), coming from Ew this will be making sense...so Hb, Bh, Hb, Ph...please make petition and share...I can wait for other summons now, I know they will come, just hate this Solar reskin lazy stuff.
While I'm glad some people like this new SMN, it's a shame the old one, my main since literal launch day, died to birth it. The job used to be active and vibrant. Now, it feels like giving the kid a tablet to keep them busy.
nothing says "active and vibrant" like pets ghosting their skills :)
@@rickmel09 While true that ghosting is no longer a problem, and the change to demi summons is good, I assume you know that the rest of the kit they axed is what I'm referring to.
@@recino2 dots and ruin spam? another good ridance IMO
@rickmel09 ok, well I hope you continue to enjoy new Summoner. It's just a shame that I can't enjoy my old class anymore.
Same here. It's grown on me to the point that I don't actively hate it anymore, but I'm still sad it killed the old version. Wish they'd kept the old one and used these mechanics for a new job instead. Similar to how relics were dealt with in EW, I just think it's a shame that anything seen as niche has to be completely changed.
As a smn main -
I wanted 3 new gem summons totaling 6, which you can freely use in any order.
Once 3 are used (in any order) the remaining 3 are locked allowing the use of Bahamut or Phoenix,
once they are used then you go back and use the remaining 3 gems and rinse and repeat.
for the 3 new gems we could have quite a bit of fun such as Levi having a healing wave or knockback mech, Ramuh AoE stun + Dmg, Shiva AoE Freeze + Dmg (why not we blus can do it 😎).
The elemental filler spells - Levi, the same long cast times as Ifrit just water dmg but the same look and feel, Ramuh same as Titan, and Garuda same as Shiva. so Water/Fire, Lighting/Earth, Wind/Ice
Well, no. Cause that would be fun. That's not the devs philosophy.
@@thegallantones6353 😂😂 well said 😂😂
words cannot describe how let down I feel...

The only thing saving smn is its still tied to sch for leveling else i cant say id want to play this job in its current state.
The new summons in endwalker where a fresh idea but the rotation loop quickly became stale at least for me. This to me just looks like a reskin over an existing reskin. Like others have said theres so mnay summons in the ff world could have been so much more.
I'm so confused what they were thinking. It would make sense if it was just a visual update to Bahamut, but why two of the same summon?
I defended Endwalker SMN because it seemed obvious how it could be built on. I now look like a fool. I don't think solar Bahamut is an interesting addition thematically either.
Cool aesthetic, cool job fantasy, disappointing to play.
I'm in the same boat. I didn't like old summoner, and I felt like new summoner was laying the groundwork for a cool new take going forward. But instead, we got this...
Same man, i gaslighted my whole FC with the prayer "Look forward to it, surely its just a foundation so they can have space for DT and give u cool shit like alexander". I feel like a dunce to have expected more then the bare minimum effort. Modders have already made so many cool summoner variants, meanwhile SE devs cant even add carbuncle recolors...
Used to be one of my favourite jobs (certainly my favourite caster). Was hoping they’d add some complexity instead of a cursed bahamut.
I can understand why cant they just make it that we can summon any 3 of the 6 primals we faced in thr MSQ (Ifrit, Titan, Garuda, Shiva, Leviathan, Ramuh)
Any 3 that you've collected allows you a big summon (Bahamut/Phoenix)
This then at least feels like a traditional summoner where you can plan which Astral Flow effect to use, even if the DPS abilities are similar.
Or even better, make Ifrit/Garuda/Titan have DPS astral flows, while Shiva/Leviathan/Ramuh astral flow be buffs/debuffs
Buff/Debuff doesn't really work for a system where you can use them in any order. Those want to be aligned with your Bahamut/Phoenxi phase when all of the party 2 minutes aligned, and the whole point of summoner is that you can use the three in any order you need to for mechanics/optimization. You'd be fighting Optimal movement vs Buff/Debuff management and that would get very irritating.
Best you could do is make 3 single target and 3 AOE, or have the astral flows be similar to the other ones rather superficially, but not super meaningfully. Realistically, you'd want the timing of the primary abilities to be the same as the original set: Instant Cast, Fast Instant Cast, and a long cast with dash, otherwise your movement is screwed up for the rest of the fight if you die at the wrong time.
If I was going to do it, I'd make Ramuh the Titan equivalent, and make the astral flow weaves weak but the potency increases for each weave you don't use, so you can pop it early if the boss is about to leave, but if you save them the last one hits like a train. Maybe switch Garuda's puddle for a Shiva beam or cone. Leviathan replaces Ifrit, but I don't really want to replace Ifrit's as much as it frustrates me getting locked into melee. Not having the dash once a minute would be awful, and the alternative would be a dash out and I don't want Mandatory RDM flip to be part of the rotation.
The problem is: I don't know if this is honestly needed. Sure, seeing the others would be cool and all, but I'm just making changes for the sake of changing somehting that's boring but ultimately functional.
All i can say is it’s laziness on square enix part. I’d rather have no new jobs if it meant putting more effort into existing jobs.
Seem ok. But I will be changing my caster main to Picto in DT.
If I didn't know this was real, I'd think it was a joke.
Well anyways, I'm guessing Solar Bahamut is used every other trance instead of in a sequence of the 3 so that every 2 minute is the same, but that could also be accomplished by just upgrading Bahamut to this new form. Perhaps they see value in keeping the normal Bahamut around which I do not, but that also means you get Phoenix every 4 minutes after the first, which is just kinda odd. I'd much prefer to have seen anything else as a demi-summon, but having solar be a straight upgrade to summon Bahamut would make it at least a bit more palatable for me.
I really hope that, some day, they go deep enough into egi glam to make it cool. The fact that it only works on carbuncle and doesn't do anything for your summons at 90 is super disappointing to me. Even if they don't have any mechanical difference, I really hope we get summon glams for the other primals. And while I'm vainly hoping for something that will never happen, let's get demi glams for Alex and Odin.
What?! Summoner is an actual job?! I thought it was just a macro button to be spammed.
So we get another summon that the devs pulled directly from their asses, which not a soul alive asked for, instead of Leviathan/Ramuh/Shiva/Odin/Ravana/Bismarck/etc. We still don't get carbuncle throwing ranged attacks out like it used to. We still don't get ANY of the DoTs that it used to have back. We still have Psykick. Their party utility spell is as boring to use as watching paint dry. We still don't get ANY more oGCD's outside of of the 2 pre-existing one's (Fester/Painflare.) Ifirit phase of the rotation STILL lags massively behind Titan or even Garuda. Radiant Aegis STILL isn't usable unless carbuncle is out. We can go ahead and fully assume the class is equally as ass to play level synced anywhere below at LEAST 70.
All this to say: Everyone who ever made the statement at any point in EW that SMN's (unnecessary) re-work had holes in its design for the sake of building off of is a goddamn fool. I wasn't even the least bit excited or expected much out of DT "additions" to its kit, and I'm still utterly disappointed.
Wish we were in the timeline where SMN didn't get reworked, and they fixed the jank pets had. I shouldn't care but the job I personally loved is stuck back in time in Shadowbringers.
Same... Sad times for old summoner mains.
Ahh, so my buttons do the exact same thing as they did before, except searing light gets a follow up. How novel.
Why in the world did the give the new Bahamut summon an AoE heal? It's like salt on the wound at this point.
Quite simple really: Solar replaces some of the Phoenix windows we have now and people might cry after their lost heal when it matters in 1 of 100 fights lol
To not leave you completely naked heal-wise at a point where you would normally have Phoenix
But yeah, if the difference between life and death was healing from the SMN, I think we can all agree that there is a more important problem at hand.
Iunno, I like helping take some of the weight off of healers. Though I think it might be more for single content like duties.
@@Wanderingsage7 I think if it's for single-player duties, it wouldn't really benefit for party healing as opposed to. Heck making Physick useful, since that is specifically single-target.
I like smn, and I've mained it all of EW, so im not completely devastated, but as the rest of us, I'd like to have seen other summons and not just essentially a reskin of bahamaut. Ill see how i feel after playing it.
The new ability replaces Phoenix ? But why? Ugh 😩
Keep the abilities but just change the aesthetics when weaving between new summons.
First expac I’ll be putting summoner in the backseat unfortunately, this Solar bahamut may have hydalens theme going on but that doesn’t make it any less of a boring copy and paste of regular bahamut.
If they wanted to go with dragon theme again they should of added shinryu, the primal dragon that was very involved with both the main story of the hydalen ark and for crying out loud they couldn’t even at least add a basic interaction between the gemshine and ruin spells.
I think I remember hearing (might have been from a cc or maybe the old job quests) that there was a lore-based reason why we (summoners) only had the 4 primal incarnations or egis (not including Phoenix) because summoning is supposed to be bad. Might be off on that but I sure would have liked somebody new like Ramuh or...anybody. I'm still going to level my SMN eventually and I'm trying to stay off the Picto bandwagon at least in the beginning. Oh well, I think I'm going to have dust off the old sword and board.
For the Egi’s it was more reaching a “full” capacity with out aether and the elements
Trances bypass this by using the aether around us rather than what we can create ourselves
However this is now kind of a moot point after Shadowbringers and having a more complete soul thanks to Ardbert so we actually COULD get more Egi/ elemental affinity now
Like they literally wrote a perfect way for SMN to get the other 3 elemental summons of Ramuh, Shiva, and Leviathan in Shadowbringers and just went “nahhhhh”
lore does not matter, since EW they dont give a fck anymore. MCH having a mecha, never explained. SMN summoning phoenix, the incarnation of the dead hero who saved the world by turning into a god? No NPC cares!
This expansion needed to give TWO expansions' worth of actions for summoner considering how lacking the last one was. Just like with Shadowbringers dark knight, I am pissed that they are slow walking this when it's kind of in a state of emergency, like with samurais having to unexpectedly play almost an entire 2 years of expansion Kaiten-less, except worse. Just LOOK at how barren that hotbar is, dude... Look at it, and despair. That is 13 main buttons on the screen right now. And nobody fucking asked for Solar Bahamut, or ever WOULD ask. It looks malnourished. This in combination with them putting at-first-glance lower DPS for your own attacks as illustrated in 2:18 says to me that the dev team made this update SPECIFICALLY to piss people off. This is one of the most tone deaf utterly bizarre job updates they've ever done, honestly. Worse than the scholar level 60 or level 90 capstone ability reveals, for sure, but without any foreseeable redeeming value since the job is fundamentally in the same terrible state it already was.
it looks like a blue eyes white dragon from a PS2 game
Im sure the comment section will roast it alive but one small thing to mention is that i really like that solar bahamut kept some form of utility so pushing back Phoenix phase isnt a nerf to its utility while still being powerful.
I feel like the entire concept of Summoner is to be simple. If you want a more complicated rotation there are other casters to choose from and picto looks crazy so you could try that out too.
For people like me, who are literally cognitively challenged and have a learning disability, I love Summoner. I love that I don't have to stress myself out with a rotation and just have fun and make shiny shit happen. If you're in love with the job identity and want something more complicated then that's frustrating and unfortunate. But at the end of the day, there are plenty of other options for people who want a more engaging rotation.
I'm happy with solar bahamut and think it's super cool to kinda reference lunar bahamut that Hades had created. I feel like this summon is specific to FF14 and its world and lore and I find that to be super cool! I'm gonna be happy knowing Summoner stayed simple while I pursue the complexity of Picto. Wish me luck and have fun in Dawntrail ya'll!
It seemed like Endwalker put the job in a place like "It's about the big summons now" okay.. so naturally we expect more big summons going forward. What we got is another Bahamut.
I mean I get the theme, Endwalker represented the moon, the end of the day/story and had Lunar Bahamut. Dawntrail, it's in the name, it's the dawn, the sun. So we get Solar Bahamut.
Despite understanding that possible intention.. yeah, it's disappointing. Ramuh was teased early on in summoner job quests.. However I think we're powerful enough to make an egi by now.
remember when smn was one of the hardest jobs and your rotation felt like playing piano?
Yes, and it was frustratingly janky at times and my love for my carbuncle was the only thing that kept me playing it.
they should put text over your screen that says go play picto
This job is the prime example of why, despite standing still most of the time, I find XI's 20+ year old combat more exciting.
So glad Pictomancer is being added, as these updates are very disappointing. I can't stand to play SMN for more than a few duties as it is so lacking in variety as to be monotonous. Thanks for this video, it cemented for me that I'll be maining PCT instead of SMN for Dawntrail.
Could have just upgraded current Bahumut through a trait.
If they still wanted to go the route of having a stronger summon in between Bahumut and Phoenix every 2 mins…Anima was a better option, Odin was a better option, even Alexander would have been a better option (and don’t @ me about some damn lore).
Giving Smn players a shiny seahorse and calling it Bahumut 2….devs may as well have pissed on their backs and told them ‘it’s raining’ while they were at it.
I think I agree that Demi-Baha should've just flat out been upgraded to Solar Baha rather than giving us a new phase. As is, Bahamut does the least dmg between all the Demi-Summons (Phoenix was technically better to Sear on if you ignore the rest of the party providing their 2-minute bursts). It would've been a great way to push up Baha's dmg and importance. Instead, he sits at the bottom of the demi tier list for me. Sure he does two quick bursts of damage, but compared to both others it's overall less and both others provide healing as well.
The only proper DoT AND pet job died for this.
To just have pictomancer be a far more interesting thing than anything this is doing.
Man why does Searing Light have to be 20s 😭
The least they could have done was give us Levi/Ramuh/Shiva after using Demi Phoenix. Even if it's just the same old shit with new skins it beats just having a single Bahamut reskin that we will have to be content with for 2.5+ more years. At least with Levi/Ramuh/Shiva we'd get 3 new Astral Flow spells/actions.
It's so ironic to me that while this SMN embraces the Summoner identity the most comapred to previous iterations, it is so devoid of soul and life. Just look at that hotbar and tell me it isn't depressing.
"Just look at that hotbar and tell me it isn't depressing."
You know that if summoner didn't use combined buttons, it would have almost 40 buttons before Dawntrail, right?
In dawntrail will summoner pet still be useless
Carbuncle provides a shield... and that's literally it besides moral support.
Yikes brother. Very underwhelming.
I'll stick to maining nin and replace my second job from summoner to maybe reaper or RDM
Solar Garuda, Ifrit and Titan might have been nice... but whatever, see how things go :)
Next one we will get Solar Phoenix...cos SQE is lazy...
best i can do is fire/earth/wind bahamuts :)
Is the new heal just its own button? Did physick survive? At least let that button swap to the new heal if it did
I was hoping for solar bahamut to have a separate cooldown from phoenix and regular bahamut
that way at least you could just rush your phases during the 2 min rotation instead of ending on a 3-4min rotation that adds nothing but some extra damage
i like the heal. It supports the heals already provided by Phoenix. It always felt bad because Phoenix heals could come in clutch, but if it's not available at the right time, it's over. One more chance for the summoner to shine through.
I was hoping for more egi/ Lego pieces. I was hoping for a lot that just, was never going to be delivered.
I still appreciate the simplicity of it. It's a very mobile role, with maybe two non instant casts each minute, and enough flexibility to choose when you want to have those hard casts.
Its a magic dps job though. They need to move away from healing.
@Raansu I think having some support vs pure dps can help create more variety and less homogeny between jobs. pct has a party dps buff but not much else, blm doesn't have any. rdm and smn has these extra buffs, mits, heals, rez. Smn's Phoenix and solar heals are better than rdm's verheal and as useful as a dnc's waltz.
We see a sliding scale in the phys range dps jobs. Healers have a similar philosophy - whm being just pure personal output, vs ast where you're sending out the buffs left and right.
it's just some variety versus another ogcd nuke to weave during buff periods.
@@williamsampson306 The issue is that it's so darn rigid when you summon them that the heal is almost always wasted. If you can summon them without constraints in any order you wish then it could have come in clutch. But no it's basically the same rotation every time.
Well that is disappointing.
I really cant believe they didnt have the 3 egis change like how they have the colors change for picto, guess that would of been to much work rather then just reskinned bahamut 🤣.
That's ... a bit meh. i expected at least that they'll put new summons replacing garuda ifrit and titan when you are in the phoenix rotation. The job is way too repetitive in this state.
I get WHY they left SMN the same with no added changes. It's the prog job and the general population seems to like the ease of it.
But Solar Bahamuts' design is just bad. He need some milk!
Damn... no Eden Summon upgrades to Garuda, Ifrit, or Titan, no Ramuh, Levi, or Shiva for Phoenix phase summons, no Alexander or anything extra, just Super Duper Bahamut and a couple more big explosion buttons. I will continue to refer to SMN as the Brain Sludge class that I will meme on and ignore/only play when I don't feel like thinking.
Ouch... was hoping they'd get something more substantial given how gutted it feels imo. I guess if some people who main the class are happy with it then, good for you lol ^ ^; Hope there's not too many disappointed people out there.
vorthos nerds would respond that we can't have Eden summons because the raid series isn't mandatory and therefore we don't have a guarantee that summoner players will have encountered the aether of those summons, same with Alexander. They justify bahamut and phoenix in the quests saying everyone who lived through the calamity encountered their aether.
but also I would think if that's the argument, we all encountered Alexander's aether when he emerged from his bubble at the end of Heavensward, so they could let us summon him if they really wanted to.....
@@anthonydelfino6171 I'm glad for the Solar Bahamut encounter in our journey so far. It was the most memorable fight that we ever had, and that theme. Legendary
Though on a serious note, its probably some person holding back on not letting us get the other 3 classics because of the whole Shiva being Ysayle thing, despite the fact that us summoning Phoenix is essentially us wheeling Gramps out and that's apparently perfectly fine.
they already said that smn won't be getting anything new/major to next expansion where it'll be getting a pretty big update, so not sure why people keep expecting alot
@@anthonydelfino6171 Bro they dont care about lore. MCH goes from gunsmith for the church to mecha pilot, never explained. SMN conjures alphinaud's dead grandpa on a 1 minute cooldown? Never mentioned, never explained. Ever since job quests went away, the devs just said "fck it, they dont care anyways, they will RP the holes"
I would love to have it phen separate from bohomid..... So we can pick who we want to use
thats it, when i want to level all the jobs im leveling sch this time around. ive been maining smn since hw but im so done, im not touching this shit ever again. so much wasted potential, they could have done so many things with smn and this is all they did.
among all the jobs they had to pick the one with one of the most complex rotations to dumb it down and make it the "go watch netflix job"
imagine having the job you loved completely be erased from existence and be made into an empty shell with no room for optimization, no learning curve, no skill expression.
che monnezza
I feel you buddy cuz big same. Looking at picto now...
As a current SMN main, I will No Longer be a SMN main in DT.
They lost me when they pulled a Blizzard 'rule of cool, completely breaks all know lore, so we gonna make some shoe horned rubbish up about how the Allagans and Tiamat apparently didn't know what Bahamut REALLY looked like...' idiocy out of their arses.
Seriously, WT Absolute F!
Still wanting leviathan ramuh and shiva summons and egi
you mean ocean bahamut, storm bahamut and glacial bahamut?
I kinda wanted more from the job in a new expansion but at the same time I'm a very lazy player so maybe not having more to do isn't such a bad thing. And let's just remember that Solar is the coolest thing ever!
It should have been Demi-Hydaelyn
considering we've been dragging Louisouix's corpse around for a few years despite him explicitly telling us not to.... sure? why not....
It IS Demi Hydaelyn. Why do you think you get a skill called Exodus and all that sword motif. But summoning Hydaelyn in the middle of the ARR maps might be seen as risking spoilers I bet so they did that instead.
@@Mordy. They dont give a fck about lore tho. Louisouix summon was never explained ( or reacted to by his relatives ). MCH went from gunsmith to designing robots without any quest to explain it. After SHB, the dev team got lazy
@@ich3730 I wasn't talking about lore though but about possible story spoilers. As for Lore of summoning Phoenix, it's about the same explanation why we can summon Bahamut isn't it?
@@Mordy. There is no explanation. You just get the skill while questing through SHB.
So what’s the order of the demi summons now? Solar> bahamut> Phoenix?
Solar>Bahamut>Solar>Phoenix
LOL why do they still have Physick???
Don't worry guys we just have to wait until 8.0, then the job might become somewhat interesting, maybe. What's another 2 and half years to not get Ramuh, Shiva, or Leviathan
After seeing the class completely reworked for every expansion, i am happy for some sort of stability for once.
This is maybe a bit _too_ much "stability". The job got an extra oGCD, an AoE heal every 2 minutes, and literally everything else is just passive potency and graphical updates. And Solar Bahamut looks goofy as hell, imo.
Considering almost every other expansion smn has been changed so drastically since RR. I guess it was time for us to be disappointed with this expansion.
Ugh.. missed opportunity. Summoners of the past still mourning.
1:52 "Increases _enmity_ in target when Solar Bahamut is summoned"
Increases enmity, huh 🤔
Normal Bahamut and Phoenix also say this currently in game. It's why we get a bunch of mobs instantly trying to murder us on trash pulls if the tank hasn't gotten FULL aggro on every mob in the pack. (count to 5, stay alive :P )
It's just a hold over from the pet system they gutted with the rework. Our summons aren't just fancy spell effects (even though they might as well be), they're actual characters as far as the game's concerned. As such, any damage they do generates enmity. But since they're untargettable, that enmity does nothing but confuse mobs, so SE's solution is to just shunt the enmity onto the SMN.
@Ryukai-san but why, why get even more aggro haha. Doing smn opener on dungeon mobs often almost gets me killed 💀
At least re-add back anti-aggro abilities
I think that's just to clarify for newer players that summoning bahamut/phoenix/solar bahamut will start combat even though it does no direct damage
@witchsniffer5764 oh I see, like 2.0 BRD songs
Did I just hear Searing Wind?
Im really sad that now Anima is canon we dont get an anima summon ;_;
This has never been a summoner in my view, it's just an elementalist. You have, what, three "summons" then a "stance" for bahamut and phoenix. Where are the rest of the summons? Ramuh, Leviathan, Ravana, any of the others?
At this point I would even be happy with an egi glamor system that is purely a visual difference that gives us something to customize.
i dont think the devs giving smn bahamut II was on anyone's DT bingo card lmfao
What a shame. They could have done so much to improve SMN and instead we got this. Why SE hate SMN so much?
💯 agreed. Nobody asked for another Bahamut skin....
And for the next expansion we will get solar phoenix
Bro they JUST reworked it. Relax. Summoner is already really good in raids
@@DioDinero2 years ago
@@yvonneflop2471no. It still does and its pretty strong, and with the new 1600 potency on solar SMN will be on a really good spot. Maybe try raiding sometime
To all of the players who are friends with SMNs mains: Keep an eye on us. We are not doing okay.
Why not after going through all your 3 Demi summons have a Color-Shift? Allowing you to instead summon Ramuh/Shiva/Leviathan. With them having diffrent skills that make you play slightly diffrent. It would have been so much cooler and more fun.
It's easy to get underwhelmed by this because nothing fundamentally changes about SMN, but it also didn't need a lot of the QoL work other classes received since it was such a smooth rotation already. Shiva/Ramuh/Leviathan would have been cooler but in retrospect they wouldn't have changed what you were doing either. I'm disappointed by these changes but given the priorities for this expansion, I don't think I was ever going to get what I wanted. Here's to hoping 8.0 is more aggressive with SMN changes.
For context, I think it's fine that SMN is the training wheels DPS now but even by those standards it's still too simple. It has the easiest burst rotation and nothing to manage or keep uptime on, so the class doesn't have much to improve on or master once you get the basic rotation down. I would like to see it get a little more complexity by adding at least a gauge to manage so the class teaches you a little bit about that aspect of DPSing.
I also secretly want Titan to be half casts just so it feels like I am playing a caster again. I won't ever get Ruin II back but I would at least be happy with that tradeoff.
We should have gotten unique summon forms since we are basically masters of summons and we should have gotten a shiva mode where we transform Or something
Why is Physick still here, and since it's here, why is it still fucking useless?
because its a meme between developers (yes this is the official stated reason)
JFC 1600 potency. Not critting that is going to feel terrible.
True potency 1400 x)
don't forget that the summoner still suffers from the old egi coefficient...
I am now convinced that Yoshi-P has a vendetta against SMN and that he is determined to suppress them in order to retain his sense of BLM superiority.
Square Enix needs to stop being cowards with the increased enmity trait that the Demi-Summons do. Too many casuals are fully convinced that they do the biggest damage in the game because they're always higher up on the aggro list. They'll start complaining when they realize they're only outpacing Bard, Dancer, and Red Mage
It's not even a trait, it's a work around cause the Demi's are actual characters in game that generate their own aggro. This could confuse mobs, so SE just redirect it onto the SMN.
I hate what they did, or rather DIDN'T do to SMN. We basically got nothing. All we wanted was the other big 3 in our rotation and some more abilities based off them. How is that too much to ask?
Well, you're looking at at least 12 animations (intro hit, Gemshine, Precious Brilliance, Astral Flow), plus lower versions possibly, PLUS your other skills and new capstone.
If they do, I personally would prefer they just be 1:1 reskins, maybe with some potency changes. Not brand new skills. Having my instant cast, slow cast, and dash timings completely different for a part on the fight after my tank didn't stack and reset my rotation would irritate me a lot more than not having cooler animations.
@@kevinskinner4986 they can just take animations the bosses already use in the game
unless some mystical 1.0spaghetticode prevents it
@@rickmel09 But Ifrit/Garuda/Titan don't use the animations of their respective boss fights. They use new animations themed after the old ones, not the ones from their original fights.
What you're saying is that you want them do a half-assed job with visuals that are literally ten years old.
@@kevinskinner4986 doesn't look like it :)
@@rickmel09 Precious Brilliance is three color coded orbs connected with a triangle with a corresponding elemental effect summoned between them.
Titan's gemshine is a smacking them with a crystal not found in the Titan, and his Astral Flow crushes things between two Mountain Busters
Ifrit and Garuda's attacks are more visually complex than their originals even if they have similar themes, and Ifrit, as far as I'm remembering, doesn't even have a floating fireball like his Ruby Rite; he has a flame breath tank cleave cone and two ground pillars.
These are new animations, not recycled
Time to ditch this boat and finally be free of this toxic relationship with SMN? Hopefully Picto helps D:
