Bears need that flashlight pocket so they can see if there is anything inside the tent worth eating. 😂

I keep hearing you mention Ozark trail and how bad they are. I have a 2 person backpacking tent from Ozark that I have been using for a couple of years and haven't had any problems. Granted it is too heavy to actually backpack with. I use it for kayak camping. Rain and snow with no leaking or damage thus far.

If it isn't a high dollar brand, it's junk. Back in the day, he actually liked cheaper products. Then his channel got big and he started getting paid and now everything is junk. I have an Ozark trail that I've used since 2013, and my daughter has used hers since 2017, and they're both great!

I have one of Ozark's big tents and it's been absolutely great since 2016. It's been through numerous thunderstorms(not the sprinkles he calls storms) and has survived 2 tornadoes. After the 4th heavy storm, I decided to waterproof it as a precaution. It never leaked and I wanted to make sure that it stayed that way. From March to November every year since I've had it, twice per month, 3 days at a time. Just like clockwork, every other weekend. I can't complain about my Ozark. Better than any Coleman, that's for sure!!

My wife found this exact tent at Goodwill for $10. It was brand new…. Someone had even packed a decent inflatable pillow at the top of the package, which I use on my trips. 😊
I set it up in the yard and thought it would work ok on my next backpack.
Well, after setting it up with my sleeping pad and bag, it looked comfortable. However, it was difficult to get in, turn around and get situated. I’m 5’11” so it was a tight fit. Coffin-like!!
I’ve kept the bivy but don’t plan on using it again. It would be useful to carry on a day trip as an emergency shelter.
    I don’t recommend it….. 😎🥾🥾

It looks a lot like my Eureka one man bivy. Bushnell has very recently been acquired by some financial holding company. True to form they have laid off a majority of the development and production employees. As you said. Bushnell has been largely an optics company. It looks like the holding company bought the company to capitalize on the name alone with cheap Chinese gear. Bushnell from here on will not be the previous independent Bushnell.

What a shame. . I will finish the video but yeh. Just get that feeling this is a nope and snow job!! This tent flat out reminded me of spocks burial tube they push out in space!! Sorry just flat out looks awful! It not worth the price! This would be great kids tent for the play room. But even then I wouldn't pay that price for it!! Now if I saw it at a garage sale for twenty bucks yes I'd buy it for the grandkids playroom! Sorry again lost me when they showed us how much they care and put in a crumpled instruction paper. Surprised it even made it I to the package lol!!

Not that I don't trust these companies when it comes to their waterproofing rating but I don't trust these companies to get it right. Any new piece of kit I get always gets a Scotchgaurd treatment with special attention to the seams. 1 time waking up in a bathtub floor that was acting like a bathtub of water was 1 time too many for me. Better safe than sorry from then on. Most of my stuff was dry by nightfall that evening and my emergency poncho saved the rest of the trip. I learned a valuable lesson the hard way.

    • @keithdorset3824
      @keithdorset3824 7 месяцев назад

I was just thinking about that. You are not wrong to pre treat a tent. It's like tightening screws, cleaning and lubing a new gun. Factory DWR, durable water repellent, and seam sealing does not last forever anyway. It usually has to be reapplied every season or so. Sun and frequent use wears it out. What I'd like to know is if an inexpensive tent is built well enough that, while not perfect, I could spend $15 and 30 minutes to treat it initially and most likely be water proof.

This looks like a poor variation of the old Pro-Action Tiger Paws design which was a cheap as chips budget tent which gained quite a following with backpackers. I have an old Tiger Paws and have weathered some bad rain and winds in it. I doubt the Bushnell would stand up to much.

  • @markthomas2436

Any discussion of a bivy starts with and ends with, at least in my mind, the question of can a tent be TOO SMALL for you? I ain't sleepin' in dat casket, Luke. My big fat rump would be crammed into that thing and needing a giant shoehorn to get my big fat a$$ out of it. Now, for a dude the size of Don Knotts? That tent might actually work. But then I am looking at the "packed up" dimensions of that thing, and you know a 5 by 7 foot A frame trail tent packs down smaller, and many of em are only 2 pounds heavier than the 2 pounds that 'thing' weighs. I speculate it would give many people a feeling of claustrophobia. If you have ever laid in a sun tanning bed and watched the lid come down, or if you have been slid INTO an MRI machine? You already know that feeling, and it ain't very cool. Why isn't a 5 by 7 A frame tent considered to be FAR superior to that casket? You have 35 square feet of floor space in a 5 foot by 7 foot tent. Not many guys are taller than 6 foot 6, and almost any guy can sleep comfortably in a 5 foot wide space....60 inches across. A freakin' seat on an airline is only 17 inches wide. For me, a bivy is never gonna work. It is just too small.

NOPE! Bushnell should know better, they aren't that great in the optics business either.

I purchased the Bushnell 8 person instant cabin tent a few years ago for a family trip with our dogs vs the hammocks we normally use and as soon as it rain it leaked straight through. Luckily we had our hammock tarps with us to cover it to survive the rest of the week long trip.

Thats not even a new tent. It's been out for several years. I purchased the Roam 2 person years ago for car camping, and have never had a problem with it.

That is an Australian tent, I think they call it a "swag". Oztrail is a very famous make that makes great stuff!!!

Won't buy anything Bushnell after this. If they will do anything to make money, who needs Bushnell. That's call prostitution.

I think you should set it up ahead of a light drizzle event and fill it with empty five gallon buckets, because this thing is gonna leak water that hasn’t even touched it yet.

Maybe it's trying to tell you what will happen if you use this product. That you will get really mushy when it rains and when a bear comes up upon this tent it can go oh burrito and the flashlight pocket is for the bear to look for the tacos.

Its strange to think Bushnell would associate with such a crappy company.

You are right that outside pocket should be inside. I think Eureka Solitaire would be a better buy at near same price.

Looking at the design, it might actually make more sense to sleep with your head in the narrow end. Sit up and work in the higher end, keep your gear there... but crawl down and sleep in the low area.

Bushnells customer service is the worst I’ve ever dealt with. I will never buy another bushnell product

That’s sad I’d say bushnel is a brand amid at hunters who would need a tent for spring and fall.
In the cold in the rain.

"Designed to handle any adventure". "Our full coverage rainfly keeps you safe from the elements. [sic] and provides privacy when you need it." 3 1/2 lbs? My goodness.
