Great video Chris...lovely cascading pools...slightly bigger fly seems to work well...thanks for taking us along with you...are day / weekly tickets available?
Thanks Chris, I started fly fishing last July so this is my first full season. Based in Plymouth I fish the local rivers plus the Dartmoor streams so you videos are right where I am I bought a 6ft 2# based on your recommendation and love it fishing the Erme. Now have to figure out that fly you used!
I went to school in Plymouth and sometimes fished the Walkham near Horrabridge and Burrator of course. Have you looked at the Tavy Walkham and Ply club? Loads of beats for not much money, I nearly joined this season with the intention of fishing after work but decided it was a bit far to drive. If I get really bored this winter I might try some fly tying videos, although I'm sure the pattern will be on RUclips somewhere.
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 Hi Chris yes I have joined Plymouth District Freshwater Angling Association and fished the Plym, Cad and Erme and intend the Tavi for Salmon next month. Also Grayling at Netherbridge via the West Country App. Fly tying demos would be good, you are such a gifted presenter. .
Hi Chris and I have to say just wonderful and quite rightly being there is what matters , it has been very windy in Wales for over a week so difficult but have managed a good few 7in browns and grayling plus a two of 1.5 and 2lb, I will have to do a trip to Exmoor for similar streams, thank you for such lovely videos. Mike
Really good watch this Chris, you've captured the enchantment of this magical place perfectly. I'm sure there's still plenty of hikes up the moor in those knees yet!! Next time, a 16 incher!
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 gentlemen of a certain age.... I'm fishing a section of river where I wade up through thick bankside undergrowth so I can wade standing upright, and don't have to kneel on rocks or gravel banks ATM! You and I specialise in 7" trout, I keep thinking I need a few big uns on the footage to boost utube subs but it seems folk like watching 7" trout as much as I like catching em 🤣🤣
Great video. I'm stopping river fishing and doing light seafishing now, because rivers so low and warm. Well I've read that book you recommend but I just can't get my head around how he caught so many fish, given his crude set up of a level, 9 ft leader and sometimes using 3 dries on same leader?! And that he thinks dryfly is very hard on fast water and that nymph fishing is easy in slow pools!!! He must be in a parallel universe as it's the other way around where I live!
Alas Jonathon I'm 1 1/2hr to 2hr round trip away from the sea in either direction so haven't really done much of that style of fly fishing. I think the big thing I took from Mr Fittons book is exactly your point that you can't generalise about this stuff. Sometimes fishing a nymph in slow pools can bring a fish when all your dry patterns have been refused but not always. True upstream nymphing in fast water just watching the leader is an art not easily learnt but stick on an indicator and even a beginner can catch. Dry fly fishing a raging torrent of a river where you need two bushy flies to keep each one afloat is very different to fishing emergers to sipping trout on a chalkstream etc etc. All you can do is find which universe your fishing in and build your tactics around that BUT never be afraid to try something different after all a "trout is a trout is a trout" as someone once said. The Lyn is where I will go, probably stay at Rockford Inn. I have been most years of my life but always walking Exmoor whilst as only been fly fishing 18mths have never fished it, the walks along that river are about the best anywhere in the uk.
Hi there, yes mostly Crediton fly fishing club waters except for the moorland stream. The CFFC do day tickets available from the tackle shop in Crediton, Parliament Square. Fishing on Dartmoor is available through the fishpass app/westcountry passport scheme. Hope this helps. Chris
Yes you will need an EA rod licence plus any permit that Riparian owner issues. Most of the fishing on Dartmoor is available through the fishpass app 👍
If there's a fishing heaven, i think that is a good contender, stunning place.
Beautiful little stream. Best kind of fishing in my view. Thanks for sharing.
A lovely stream. A very nice watch Chris.

What a stunning place to wet a line, fantastic rock formations and wonderful pools, you are a lucky man.
Cheers Alan, it's been said many times before but Dartmoor really is a magical place The fish may be small but the experience is always a special one.
Thanks very much for another great video you always make me feel like keeping going and don't give up very much appreciated
Very enjoyable video with fantastic scenery!
Thanks David, going a bit stir crazy atm, no fishing for 5 weeks because of the drought, I can feel the season slipping away.
Lovely. its wee sessions like this that put you back in touch with your roots.
Looking at the eye of the first fish it does look like a Salmon parr, nice film once again.
Cheers Richard, I did think there was something about the eye position relative to the Upper jaw but I couldn't remember the details🤔
Lovely! Definitely near the top of the list next time I'm in the SW.

Thanks Trevor, very kind, if I can find a quiet place in my mad house I'll give it a try.

Cheers Mike, another two pounder well done. Where abouts on Exmoor do you fish? I keep meaning to get back to the Lyn.

How did you know it was the knees David😀 I'm not sure there are fish of that size up there but I'll keep looking😀

Always plan to go (ever since reading Mr Weavers book) but never managed it. It does look like my kind of stream.
Hi Chris,
Are these small streams mostly club waters?
Thanks in advance

Do you need a licence to fish trout in this region of England?
Yes you will need an EA rod licence plus any permit that Riparian owner issues. Most of the fishing on Dartmoor is available through the fishpass app 👍
