Transforming higher education access

Aligned with the University of Cape Town’s Vision 2030, UCT’s 100UP programme is a cornerstone of the university’s commitment to social responsiveness. It supports academically strong learners from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing them with the support needed to access higher education.
The programme empowers grade 11 and 12 learners to meet university admission requirements through a two-year holistic coaching approach. Ahluma Memela, a 100UP beneficiary from 2022 shares how the opportunity helped him to realise his potential and harness his leadership skills. Memela is now a first-year student at UCT, studying towards his honours in organisational psychology.
