Tin - a crucial material in pre-modern alloys - went into pipe metal, brass and bronze, and certain keyboard strings. Wars, blockades, or embargos between where an organ was being built and its sole truly pure source, Cornwall, hugely increased the price of the metal. One might thus be confronted with choosing between a smaller instrument at a lower pitch (with lengthier, heavier pipes) and a larger one at as startlingly high a pitch as St. Jakobi, Hamburg. In contrast, there are costly, darkly voiced Renaissance and early Baroque organs in Italy, Spain, and France at a = 385Hz. Original pitches in some southern European cities and towns vary between 385Hz and the high 460s. It was an era of sumptuous disregard for standards, great love of individual character, and ingenious solutions to the difficulties posed by military, clerical, governmental, and merely geographical realities.

Good interpretation, but why in Earth so high pitch!?!? At least the temperament is not original, because a meantone is in the edge of untuned.

+Harry Meehan said that is cheaper to build smaller pipes, sacrificing pitch. I feel more pleased.

It was called 'Tonvs ecclesiasticvs' (Kirchenton) to have a higher singing (ad maiorem dei gloriam)

Meantone is hardly "the edge of untuned." It is simply what was used in this period, plain and simple. The pure thirds are surely "in tune" and make for much of the character of the music of this period.

God gammeldags orgelmusik men en noget svag og utydelig optagelse.....
