Thames at 6 was Thames Television at last providing a decent, proper regional news service for London. Before this, all they had was their Today show which was really a soft news magazine show, which sometimes didn't air for weeks, especially over the summer and Christmas periods. Thames at 6, later renamed Thames News from 1977 onwards was their decent attempt at proper local news for the capital. Much better than the BBC output for London and the South East at the time.
That's a very full desk Andrew Gardener's got there! Don't think I've ever seen a news anchor with a typewriter by his side before… Incidentally, ATV Today also had a clock built into the set around this time.
Nice to see this :) love the jazz-esque Salute To Thames, smooth!

the great Johnny Hawksworth composed the music
Thames used the 6 logo similar to the old school 6 logo by the legendary WITI-6 in Milwaukee USA
Brings back memories, later became Thames News.
Classic Thames Television
it's a movie countdown link in description

Sad to see hw times hve changed for the worst I must say....
This was the replacement for the ill-fated 'Today' presented by Bill Grundy, wasn't it?
This replaced 'Today' after the Sex Pistols ruined it.
It was bill grundy's fault he encourage them
What an appalling set😂
Why is the Thames ident so badly out of tune?
