@Trainboy1EJR i9 in a form factor like that is wishful thinking to begin with. All i9's laptops that thin have similar thermal issues. From your point of view a better cooling solution is using a dual-core CPU, which is not related to the cooling solution to begin with.

I think the biggest deal with 7th gen is the improved efficiency in video decoding. If you have downloaded files on your PC, battery life should be quite a bit stronger. Edit: decoding, not deciding
This is something I would find myself buying once released. Just imagine the future of this kind of technology. In just around 10 more years, we'll have computers this size that can run the game we have now at a good framerate.
Our original GPD Pocket is performing well as a service tool for remote VHF repeater sites we have to hike in to. Weight, size and a reasonable amount of ruggedness are more of a consideration than performance in this case. The Surface was too bendy and bulky and Toughbooks weigh a tonne.
I've never checked. Long enough to hike for a day with it off, do a 30 minute configuration job (at temperatures below 4 deg. C) then switch it off and hike to a refuge hut where there's solar power to plug it in to and watch movies. Though one time Windows 10 woke it up while it was on charge at the office. Must have stayed on trying to connect while I was walking for the day. Got to the site and found the PC battery flat. Fortunately I had a 12 charger I could jumper off the radio batteries.
Ok, this Logo, is better than last....but it's the colours... Linus, you spoiled us. Think this Logo design, but with Orange background & Black Letters; or maybe Orange background with White Letters with the letters having a white boarder? Either way, do like this colour scheme better, as it fits LMG. That said, the Orange & Black scheme is the LMG/LTT beginning colour scheme & what we all came to love..... Up to you though Linus.😊 Cheers, A👍🏻👍🏻
While I did kind of appreciate the puzzle aspect to their old new logo (though admittedly potentially less recognizability), I'd agree and am not particularly fond of the of raw orange on white color scheme. I think white text on orange has some good potential, the white outline on the text might make it look a little to busy but I agree. ;P
I like your idea and the double-new logo, although it would be cool if they could add green to the logo as a tribute to Nvidia while still managing to not make the logo ugly. But l don't know if my idea would work in the slightest.
It's kinda hard to see, but I think that led is always on and changes color to indicate fan mode. If you check during the Tomb Raider benchmark it was white, but when he changes to silent it goes greenish. During the cinebench run it was green as well, so it was in silent mode. I may be mistaken, though, as it's hard to see, so Linus will have to check this himself. edit: it's green rather than blue. Can see clearly at 10:18 @4k res.
For anything like that, which uses a type-C USB connection, I suggest you try a docking station, like a Dell Universal Dock 6000. that might bring a lot of expand-ability to one of those handy devices.
Imagine if it had a dedicated ethernet port. Like that collapsed ethernet port seen on some ultrabooks could fit. Put in a modem for LTE and boom. Perfect portable windows machine for a tech.
maybe they could add a "dock" with the extra ports and added battery that it attaches to. It looses the "pocket" feature, but could be very handy! Full size ethernet, HDMI, serial port, additional 4000mAh battery and you've got something I could actually get behind.
Not sure if I can picture what you're describing, but if you're willing to give up the "pocket" feature, couldn't you just opt for a normal-sized laptop instead?
Ubuntu Maté 18.04 just came out for the pocket and pocket 2. Runs great on both. Especially the pocket 2 really stands out without all the background windows garbage running.

djkaye youtube I was thinking that too. I’d probably do that if I had that laptop.
or external ssd
Also a proper keyboard, not a fan of the form factor of the machine, but I can see what they're trying to achieve and I'm impressed.
You can set the sensitivity of the optical sensor higher, then you can cover the whole screen with one swipe.
Concerning the mouse: good luck using a mouse when on the go/standing in line.
Late Blackberry Bolds had a similar sensor-pointer, it worked quite well.
Haswell is 7th gen?
Isn't Kaby Lake is the 7th gen?
Linus? Go home you are drunk.
lol oops
Go drunk you're home
i caught that to, haswell is 4th lol
Yeah same.. 4th gen CPUs are still quite good though :).....what kind BTW. ....k? Can it be overclocked!?!? for you know....poopsandsmiles.... I bet it can play Half-Life2 and source... probably runs league of legends too...
@@LinusTechTips Also it isn't a quadcore like you said early in the video :D
Better cooling solution than Macbooks
How's better if it's the same?
Your right, it is the same, except this is a dual-core mobile processor and not an i9, so this is actually an adequate cooling solution!
@Trainboy1EJR i9 in a form factor like that is wishful thinking to begin with. All i9's laptops that thin have similar thermal issues. Now he said better cooling solution than macbook and I ask how is different if its the same. From your point of view a better cooling solution is using a dual-core CPU, which is not related to the cooling solution to begin with.
He is referring to the Macbook 12" not the pro. That Macbook has the core M 5th and 6th gen processor and doesn't have a fan at all
@@bogdanlazar5907 Since cooling is inherently tied to the environment, in this case the cpu, it is a valid statement.
The SAME cooling solution in a REALISTIC environment... sensible, no? I'd call that better.
I don't know about you, but I'd say inverting my window cooling unit to cool my patio would be a poor cooling solution when compared to using it to cool my room.
I love the way Linis reviews anything in his videos. Feels both energetic and excitement.
That’s like 15-25 FPS I’ve had 10 FPS before on my trash laptop and you can’t even move straight
I played overwatch at 10 fps at min settings for 1 year...
You get good at predicting where people are going to be in the next slide
John Becker Yeah, playing on a subpar machine makes you really good at the game. When you finally move to a machine with decent performance you really feel like a god, and get performance to match.
@@login0false that's what poor people tell themselves because they're poor. You get better because you're using a good machine
No, he's not wrong. But it would only works for someone that did actually play well on a shitty machine.
I had a guildmate that after years of raiding he suddenly said that his ball mouse broke. He's been using this old ass computer with hardly a couple fps for years. He was always one of our most consistent players (aka, he didn't fuck up, and played well).
@@kindlin yes, exactly, using a good machine makes you better
This actually seems like a good purchase, unlike some other stuff we've seen lately.
What kind of sorcery is this!?
the cool thing about your commercials or sponsors is there all computer/tech stuff which is what your viewers are into, thus I enjoy and look forward to what you sponsor as I believe you just don't sponsor anything, only things of value...this works great for me as a viewer and for a company like Origin PC as they get a audience of like minded computer people that focus on quality...your a Genius.
Thanks Apple. When I look at the top of the GPD, I always think touchbar.

it actually resembles a macbook-like chassis lol eww
"These are Haswell cores"
"7th Gen cores".
Wat?
I was searching for this comment.
@John Dough 😂😂
Time and time again Linus shows how clueless he is about hardware.
it's cause Intel's generation to generation improvements are so miniscule so 7th gen is basically as good as 4th

How long does the battery last man?
Awesome. Glad to see people are finding uses for these machines.

Up to you though Linus.😊
Cheers, A👍🏻👍🏻
While I did kind of appreciate the puzzle aspect to their old new logo (though admittedly potentially less recognizability), I'd agree and am not particularly fond of the of raw orange on white color scheme.
Personally, I preferred the logo prior to the previous logo.
Am I watching Linus or Buffalo Wild Wings PC?

Did you do cinebench on silent mode? Re-run plz!!
The fan led is on 10:42
It's kinda hard to see, but I think that led is always on and changes color to indicate fan mode.
@@danannnnnn I'm watching on my phone. Can't see that.
For anything like that, which uses a type-C USB connection, I suggest you try a docking station, like a Dell Universal Dock 6000. that might bring a lot of expand-ability to one of those handy devices.
Technicians lives just got a billion times easier
Imagine if it had a dedicated ethernet port. Like that collapsed ethernet port seen on some ultrabooks could fit. Put in a modem for LTE and boom. Perfect portable windows machine for a tech.
D B man, that device is thinner than ethernet jack
Does it need a dedicated ethernet port? I use ethernet to USB adapters, not sure if there's any downside to them.
maybe they could add a "dock" with the extra ports and added battery that it attaches to.

Switching keys doesn't take long anyway. Theres no point. You only have to solder and desolder two contacts per key. No matter how slow you are, not gonna take you over an hour. And you not gonna switch they keys that often.
Bit skeptical about his claim that “a short time ago it wasn’t even possible to build a computer in a form factor like this“ given that we’ve absolutely had this before, in the mid- to late 2000s with stuff like the OQO devices...

When typing while standing with one hand, use the onehandkeyboard Software. This software mirrors the keys from the right side of the keyboard to the left side when holding spacebar down, thus allowing you to touch type with only one hand. You adapt pretty quickly. Try it out.
Wouldnt it be genius if they put a clicky trackpad on the back of the pc so you could you your extra fingers to move the move while holding it?
Seems like everyone looks at PS Vita and thinks "no, that was a flop, it's not worth the hassle". That thing wasn't clickable tho iirc
That *would* be genius. My approach to this product in the first generation was to make it foldable, allowing you to convert it into a small tablet. The device's usability would go through the roof like that.

I don't really get the need for this, just get the gpd win with built in game controller plus pc functionality. I think this is even more expensive
for dragging, there is another left click mouse which u can hold down so u can lift up your finger and continue to drag to the direction u want
I'm shopping around for some older netbooks as dragging a full-sized laptop around just to do remote server maintenance is impractical and tiring. This seems like a nice solution. But I won't bother with stock OS and I'll result to Arch linux because one, gotta look like I'm hacking in i3wm and two, Windows gives me a headache.
