    Took my 2004 class A off the road and now it's been on a seasonal site for the past 3 years. This is soooo much easier than trying to get a propane truck to fill the tank!! I can run off a 20lb all season long and just get it filled at the local gas station.

    Great video, I've been looking for a how to and this is it. it's good to know it's an easy job, to think I was gong to pay someone to do this but they wouldn't work on an RV, I thought(for some reason) that the gas line would have to be cut. Glad I looked a little further.

    Clamp a short 1x4x6" board to the metal tank protector and it will protect the regulator.

    Thanks for the in video enjoyed it gave me a lot of confidence my only concern is that you left the rubber auxiliary hose connected to the high side of the gas pressure and it does not appear that go through a regulator I would recommend a quick connect or taking it off and cap in it I don't feel comfortable with rubber hosing on the high side of the pressure if something goes wrong what's a rubber like a squirrel chewing it then you got a high pressure leak. Just a thought

    • @BlackTopBoondocker

      Yea I see your point. I could remove the hose and just use the brass plug.

    When I turn on the gas it comes out the end of my new hose what is up with that?

  • @MasterDasher
    @MasterDasher Год назад +1

    Instead of buying a fitting and hose, why wouldn’t you just hook the camper hose with regulator to the cylinder directly?

    • @BlackTopBoondocker
      @BlackTopBoondocker  Год назад

      This is a 3 way hook up all high pressure. The camper itself need the regulated pressure but not the devices that use small tanks.

  • @teresaelrod9669
    @teresaelrod9669 7 месяцев назад

    When you actually hook the external tank do you still leave the big tank open

  • @juliehidden3218
    @juliehidden3218 4 года назад

    question- the t goes before the regulator, so any applience like a grill that hooks up to this t needs a regulator. thus why not t (not the featured t) after the existing regulator? doing this keeps the existing regulator within the guard shield below it.

      Not sure why the tee would leak. I would remove it and check the threads. Contact camco they might send you a replacement. I still use this every year and never had a problem. Without seeing it sorry I can't be more help.

  • @formeraide529

    If you already have a propane quick connect that came from the factory, could you use a cylinder with a regulator on it and connect to the coach that way? I guess you would need a regulator on the tank because it it would be after the coach’s regulator.

  • @asphaltadventurer
    @asphaltadventurer 3 года назад

    Doesn't make sense to put soapy water on the hose end opening. The point of the test is to verify External leaks that can cause a safety issue. If your shutoff valve was leaking, the gas would simply flow through the regulator and remain in the lines.

  • @DevilTravels
    @DevilTravels 5 лет назад +1

    I recently had to deal with this item. What I found is that the check valve in the hose may not have a positive seal which means at low back pressure, propane can leak out the disconnected external tank hose.

    • @BlackTopBoondocker
      @BlackTopBoondocker  5 лет назад +1

      When I wash the rig I have a habit of soaping down the propane connections No leaks yet but I will keep a close eye on it. Thank you very much for the heads up.

    Hello! Wonderful vid. I noticed you stated not to use any kind of teflon tape at the fitting. Why is that? A friend of mine hooked up an Extend-a-Stay hose yesterday and then, mistakenly, added pipe dope. The question is; what do I do now? Can I remove the teflon tape? Will I then be "good to go?" Thank you.

    • @BlackTopBoondocker
      @BlackTopBoondocker  5 лет назад +1

      Teflon tape is for sealing the threads. Flare fitting seal on the flare angle surface and not the threads. Just leave the Teflon on it will not hurt anything.
      Check for leaks regularly with soapy water regardless. I check mine about twice a season at a min. Hope that helps :) safe travels~ John

    • @newporter9496
      @newporter9496 5 лет назад

      Thanks so much for your prompt reply! I'll leave the (white, not yellow, as I discovered) pipe dope in place, and check it occasionally for leaks. Since the hose is partially underneath the Class A, it makes it a little tougher to get under there. (I'll be sure to purchase a handheld detector to make checking a bit easier.) Thanks again!

    • @BlackTopBoondocker

      The black stone should have a regulator. If not it needs one.

    Question is should the new connection be put after the regulator ?

    • @BlackTopBoondocker
      @BlackTopBoondocker  3 года назад +2

      No You need the extended stay connection on the high pressure side. This allows you to run directly to remote tanks. If you put this after the regulator it would send high pressure to the rig and that would be bad.

  • @moviehipster

    Definitely use like 10 zip ties to keep that hose off the hiway. Duct tape, bailing wire, electrical tape, bubble gum anything but to .10 zip ties. Dont trust that.

      BlackTop Boondocker thanks for the reply to the post. Keeping the main/mounted LP tank closed (bypassed).
      Also wanted to ask: The RVs LP tank regulator is the only regulator needed? Meaning - I don’t need to put a regulator on the external tank?

    Wow seems like an awesome option. Easier taking the tank for refills rather driving the whole rig. Question, are these legal are they common and does installing it void any of the RV warranties? sorry for so many questions. never seen this before.

    • @BlackTopBoondocker
      @BlackTopBoondocker  5 лет назад +2

      Perfectly legal and very common. Most RV dealerships will even do the install if you want to pay them. We love having the option.

    Thanks for the video man! I installed mine just like you did but for some reason when I turn on the valve from the portable tank I’m not getting any gas going into my rig (tried turning on the stove, fridge even as a last resort the furnace!) and suggestions on what I should check? The tank is heavy so it seems there’s gas in it. What should I do? Many thanks!

    • @stevemizera3891
      @stevemizera3891 3 года назад +1

      You need to turn OFF the rig's propane valve. The pressure from it being on prevents the smaller external tank from entering the system.
