The guy could have really gone places but he blew it, it's not good to be too full of ones own self importance. Did nobody ever advise him it would be a bad idea to bite the hand that feeds. Accidents happen, his trousers split whilst provocatively over exerting himself on stage, he was extremely lucky that they let that one go. He then thought it a good idea to purposefully split them two more nights in a row. As a result that was the beginning of the end for England's answer to Elvis. P.J. Proby's unacceptably warped appetite for very young girls didn't do him any favours either, come on, a 46 year old man marrying a 16 year old at Gretna Green should have earned him a good horse whipping from her family at the very least. He had it all, voice, looks, tall, slim, fit and MEGA talented.

    Jim Proby.
When I was 19 ...in Radio Luksemburg ...I ve heard the first time " HOLD ME"...later in 65
    " SOMEWHERE"..." MARIA " &
    " I APOLOGISE".
    I was truly shocked!
What is the talent! What is the great voice! And what are the sensative and tender interpretations!
I bought in 1968 in London all his EPs...& singles.
Nowadays I ve got all singles... CDs & about 20 like news LPs.
    My favourite songs are:
    " SOMEWHERE" & " JUST LIKE HIM"
    by Jackie de Shannon.
    What is the great ballad!
    Artistic song!
    Latest news:
    P.j.Proby with " WHISKEY & YOU "
    came back to the Chart.
    Go ahead Jim!
Best wishes & many regards from Poland.
Merry Christmass to You and dogs.

Now we have 'Naked Attraction' on T.V. which is deemed O.K. and there seems to be no governing body that regulates those who find it offensive, otherwise it would have been pulled. So, why is somebody splitting their trousers at the knee in the 60's deemed obscene and why was it worthy of ruining a magnificent singer's career.

There must be an agenda at play to destroy this superstar. I believe someone in the business was paid to destroy him, in favor of Tom Jones disgusting……it was a crying shame and typical of the dishonest music business

@@margaretrobertson4695 I`ve been a fan of PJ Proby since 1964, I have most of his Songs and I think he`s the best singer of "Ballads" I`ve ever heard. However, no one was in the music business to destroy him because he did it all on his own .PJ was his own worse enemy and was actually an R Sole in real life both in interviews and off stage , as a one time out n out Drunken brawler ,and his arrogance was as big as his ego because he had a habit of annoying people and picked fights very easily, and it didn`t take him long to get into a fight . This absolutely contributed to him being disliked immensely and this is why he himself destroyed a big chunk of his career. Saying all that ,I still listen to his music in my car regularly and never tire of his fantastic voice .

@@peterclark1041 Yes lots on ebay (UK.)
I personally think his best value ones to get are ....
P.J. Proby - Best of (The EMI Years (1961-1972).
      "I Am P J Proby/P J Proby " - CD.
      " P.J. Proby - The Legendary P.J. Proby At His Very Best " - CD .
      and , " Ep Collection by P J Proby." - CD
Hours and hours of his very best music is on those 4 Cd`s and well worth getting as they cover pretty much all the best of his music.

So what was inside of these legendary trousers? Underwear, no-underwear, one of those pop-out snakes-in-a-can that you buy in a joke shop? I don't see why it was such a scandal unless the public saw something they really weren't supposed to see. Jim Morrison got arrested for taking out "the real thing", but if this guy was just wearing something not much different from swimming trunks underneath his split pants, I don't see why it was taken as anything more than a bad joke.

This guy was sort of the Forrest Gump of the Entertainment business, falling into one strange but famous event after another and making and album with Redbone and then Led Zeppelin before either were famous. The single, "Nicky Hokey, from the former, was his only hit in the USA and probably one of the best examples of his abilities. It sounded like one would imagine if told that Mitch Ryder had covered a Nancy Sinatra song, catchy, soulful and I'd say less pretentious than some of his UK hits.
