The worst thing ever written was a story I wrote using Chat GPT where Harry Potter makes Ron a disgusting sweet and sour dish. Ron complains about it so much everyone calls him Sour Ron. He uses magic to try get rid of the horrible taste in his mouth and accidentally transports himself to Middle Earth. The locals ask him his name and he says Sour Ron since everyone calls him that. The locals mistake it as Sauron. They start to fear him because he builds a magic portkey ring to get himself back to Hogwarts but it doesnt work and he turns into a giant flaming eye.

In the House in the Dark of the Woods by Laird Hunt omg I
had to DNF it because the main character refers to her husband as "My man" every few seconds (counted 5 times on one page) and it was so aggravating that I could not take it anymore. The writing was so odd, unnatural, and choppy that it actually seemed like it was written by AI, like chat bot or something.

My last book of 2023 was Central Places by Delia Cai also because it’s about a girl going back to central Illinois for the holidays and I recently moved to central Illinois and thought oh wow this is me. It wasnt nearly as bad as you described Every Summer After, but it was just so odd. *spoilers* the main character leaves her fiancé that she had a great relationship with and randomly starts deteriorating when they get to her hometown… and he also completely changes and I think it was just poor writing not the location change… but anyways she leaves him to be with her high school not even boyfriend but crush… just so odd.

Slowly getting back to reading at least one book per year (used to read a lot but school and life made me busy + usually the books I wanna read come late to my country so yeah, but I'm slowly getting back into it tho) and I refuse to read most of the hyped booktok authors/books (rwrb was exception bc it was perfect to ease my stressed brain and I read it during the holidays, also having couple of lgbt books (which are quote popular on booktok) on my tbr) and I wheezed when I checked out some upcoming 2024 books and Ali Hazelwood is coming back again with a book with a vampire main character and an ALPHA MALE. A were alpha male. I propably won't read her works ever but geez this woman seems to write in a speed of light bc she almost constantly publishes new books left and right.
Your ranting once again was glorious and I had a great time listening it. Thank you Emma and happy new year!

And after this book I don't think I can ever trust another 18+ romance book. This was just so bad. I am shocked someone read the plot and said " yes, we are printing it". And considering 80% of bookstagrammers think it's 5/5 I am NEVER picking another hyped book. I will stick to thrillers and classics

My worst book of the year (and my first ever DNF) was 'Witches Steeped in Gold' - so gutted because the cover is stunning and I wanted to like it so bad. But one of the two main characters was literally unbearable, she failed in literally every plan and yet she, and every other character, acted like she was some intimidating badass. And then everyone acts like MC2 is an idiot even though she was reacting very normally to the situations and was the only person having worthwhile plans that actually sometimes worked - her character growth is skipped over, mentioned in a line ('I feel like I'm able to do this now!' type vibes), then immediately retconned a chapter later when she and everyone else goes back to acting like she's an idiot. It was like the author had a favourite out of the main pair and it made no sense because the one she chose to dote on and make everyone in the story dote on was the worst person I have ever met in a book. Not to mention the pacing was horrific (the Important Items they need to find are talked about for the first time over half way through and they already have one of them within two chapters) and the magic system was not explained At.All. It seemed like there was about to be an interesting trope subversion, or a plotline, and then they would just abruptly stop and not go anywhere. It was just the worst and I felt awful being so mean about it at the time because it was a debut, but honestly thinking back on it I'm still angry I wasted over a week trying to slog through it, so here's my bitchy rant about it 😂😂

The worst book of 2023 for me was hands down Fourth Wing. I've read unedited fanfics in wattpad that were of higher quality and subtance when I was thirteen than that book.

My worst book was "A frugal wizard's handbook for surviving medieval england" by Brandon Sanderson. I cannot even describe the pain while reading it, it goes so deep. The only nice things about it were the cover and some random strange FAQ sections. The story makes no sense, the world building is minimalistic and the characters are dull and emotionless. I wasted money

Worst bookI read in 2023 has to be Winter of the World by Ken Follett, I read the first book Fall of Giants and kind of hate-read it but then the next one, Winter of the World, was even worse I quit before 100 pages. It's an historical-fiction trilogy following the same people and families through the 20thC WW1&2 etc. But it was just bad plots with baaaaaad writing, I don't understand how these books became so popular or what his publishers/editors were even thinking.

THANK YOUUU FOR MENTIONING THE BELLY BUTTON! My husband is like “you’re going to have to get over your weird belly button thing, we have kids and it’s going to get touched” and I just can’t. I HATE belly buttons and anytime mine is touched or even the band of my jeans/skirts is sitting on it I start crawling in my skin. Ok…Rant over

I am exactly the same about my bellybutton. Augh just thinking about it makes me weirdly uncomfortable. Also, I am a space enthusiast and I think Mars is boring. Maybe it’s just me, but I think Mars is overdone. Let’s study Pluto. It has active geology! It’s wild!
