Kevin Valentine who played drums on all of the album, said Itv is the most Kiss sounding song and he wished Peter played on the whole thing, He saw th PC tour and said Peter played great even the title track PC, and int the void, and within live!
Kiss Faq just did this episode. It took me a week to get through the hypocrisy. Note, I do enjoy the show even when I vehemently disagree. However, let me address the hypocrisy as with so many others. People listen to Psycho Circus with their eyes and not with their ears. They talk about the album, blah, blah, blah and it's this, it's that. Yeah whatever. Ok, Kiss didn't say who was actually on the record. Blah, blah. Well you better hate Destroyer, Alive II, CREATURES OF THE NIGHT, Lick it Up, Animalize, DYNASTY, UNMASKED, etc. I love Psycho Circus and all the demos, etc. I have made it into a double record and listen to it all the time. Just like Monster, great record, stop listening with your eyes. Now, I can't wait to hear what you guys have to say. Always enjoy the show.
I happen to love Monster! One of my “top 10” KISS albums. And I agree with your comment about other KISS albums with ghost performers. I just don’t think that songs are that great on PC. And, I hate the lost opportunity.
As a fan from ‘76 I was over the moon that my band was back and that excitement added to my enjoyment of the album when it dropped. At the time I bought the hype that this was the original 4 in studio recording as one. Looking back it feels like this was a crafted album that was more focused on the appearance than anything but that original impression I had still colors my enjoyment although I hardly play it from to back.
Hahaha... You gotta give it to the Fonz. Always busting somebody's balls! But hey everybody... i always wondered the same thing...but it's become so ingrained in our consciousnesses and Micky Mouse way of thinking ..that i wouldn't want to hear it ANY OTHER WAY. Cheers bruthas from anotha mutha 😜
I was so excited when this came out in '98 and, silly me, I thought they all played on the whole album just like i thought with Dynasty, Unmasked, etc..until we found out years later. I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree on some opinions. You're absolutely right that Within doesn't belong here, but that said, it's one of my favorite Gene songs since the Creatures album. I Pledge Allegiance stands up with I Stole Your Love and most other straight up rockers Paul ever did, and Into the Void is not only the best song on the album, but ranks up with Rocket Ride, maybe just a notch below the 78 solo album. While Gene's other songs are interesting, he should've saved them for Asshole in 2004. I always skip Finally Found My Way and Dreamin'. The title track, You Wanted the Best and Raise Your Glasses are decent, with the latter being the one I like most out of them. They purposefully tried to recapture the spirit of the classic era on Sonic Boom. Why the hell didn't they do that for this album instead of giving us this hodgepodge of material that mostly sounds like anything but the original band?
Even many Kiss fans hate, I love to death you wanted the Best, it could be produced a little bit better but the lyrics do resonate with me and the guitars sound good, maybe I love it because I am 35 and another type of Kiss fan 😂 and also it was a missed oportunity to include its my life it has the feel for the álbum and also I got the impression that samurai son easily can be a song for the álbum
The title track and You Wanted the Best are among my least favourite Kiss songs of all time, but the rest I like. My scores by your criteria: Psycho Circus - 2.5 Within - 6.0 (the fading out ending bumps it to 6.0) I Pledge Allegiance - 7.5 Into the Void - 6.0 We Are One - 7.5 You Wanted the Best - 1.0 Raise Your Glasses - 7.5 I Finally Found My Way - 6.5 Dreaming' - 7 Journey of 1,000 Years - 8 In Your Face - 4.0
Very thoughtful review. The album seems very forced to me, as well. Almost like what an AI generated KISS album would be (following a passionless formula). I think “In Your Face” would have been the 2nd best song on the album. Good discussion guys! By the way, I happen to really like Sonic Boom! Can’t wait to hear your review.
Unfortunately I don’t like sonic boom at all, they made up for it with monster which is a lot better. Monster sounds more like the next album after psycho circus.
This is such a great episode, so spot on if you ask me.. PC for me is also a húge dissapointment and missed opportunity. You know Mike (and I think it’s great that you hear/feel this): K. Valentine played these tracks on electronic drums.. wtf?! I think it was also totally the wrong producer..
I like Finally Found My Way. My wife and I had it played it at our wedding. I liked eight of the ten songs. You Wanted The Best was kind of dumb and Journey Of A Thousand Years was boring.
Psycho Circus……..🤔 well it’s appropriately named 😂😂. I actually liked it quite a bit in 98. Now it’s just a little above average. Psycho Circus- 8 Within- 6 I Pledge Allegiance TTSOR&R- 6 Into The Void- 7 We Are One- 6 You Wanted The Best- 4 Raise Your Glasses- 5 I Finally Found My Way- 0!!!!!! (Worst KISS song) Dreamin’- 5 Journey of 1,000 Years- 7 Total= 54 Score- 5.4
Psycho Circus was one of the biggest disappointments in KISS history. Once again, everything had to happen very quickly and without much effort. No pain no gain. The fans were fooled with the label reunion album. Cheating and lying.
@@dakotaescher1 I don't hate Psycho Circus. I even like some of the songs very much. What I didn't like about it was the circumstances surrounding the release and what untruths GS & PS first spouted in interviews about the album. Only later did they reveal more details about it. It's not about who plays on the album or not. But about the information policy for the release & the dirty laundry in the years after.
@@dakotaescher1 It is quite simple. With the older mentioned albums I was either not yet born or still much too small to catch on at that time. But the embarrassing chatter of the gentlemen GS and PS from the year 1998 is still very familiar to me. Anyway. Let the music do the talking. 🤘
I agree because it was sold as a reunion album. I was very excited, soon as I heard it I knew it was a hodgepodge production not a “ let’s get together and create the magic of the originals….playing , singing and writing together. Total wasted opportunity. I never listen to it.
You Wanted The Best was one of the worst Kiss songs EVER. I love most of the songs on the album, the title track, Pledge Allegience, We Are One, Raise Your Glasses, Dreamin', Journey of 1,000 Years (which I think is one of the best Kiss tunes ever written). Most Kiss albums have a fair share of stinkers so this is no worse than anything they did in the late 70s through the 80s. I think we look at their early stuff with too much of rose colored glasses and judge later stuff too harshly.
Always great hearing your stuff.
Thanks!

Ace says Peter and him both played into the void. And that Peter only sung on "I finally found my way"
I don't know why but raise your glasses struck a chord with me. I like that song. I don't know why but I always thought was left over from the elder.
It's my favorite song off PC. The verses sound Elderish and has a Shout it out feel in the chorus and guitar solo. Love it

Does anyone know whatPaul song Ace fell asleep on the solo?
In behind the mask it says that Ace fell asleep during a Paul song in the studio?
Anyone?
Yup, people listen with their eyes. (After listening to show).
Psycho Circus was more of a 80's throwback than anything else
Why do you always do the intro in a high pitched voice?
Because he can! 😉
Lol

YWTB is a Great solo by Ace!They trade off vocals all 4 members , never done before its a classic!

An AI generated KISS album. That sums it up perfectly!

Thanks for watching, and glad you enjoyed the episode. PC will always be the biggest missed opportunity for KISS IMO.

It eas the producer Bruce Fairbaine whi didn't want Ace and Peter to play.
Ace and Peter could NEVER have played those songs. Ace due to drugs and Pete, well everyone knows why.
Psycho Circus was one of the biggest disappointments in KISS history. Once again, everything had to happen very quickly and without much effort. No pain no gain. The fans were fooled with the label reunion album. Cheating and lying.
Just like Creatures, Dynasty, Unmasked, Destroyer, Lick it Up, etc. I hope you hate those 2.

This album is seriously missing the Bob Ezrin touch.

That may be fair about how we look at albums. Most people have a tendency to hold songs, movies, etc. from their childhood near and dear.
Could have been alot better. Some good songs.
a missed opportunity ?
