Hacı Gümüşoğlu Hüseyin is one of the notables of Kafaca Village. There is a secret conflict between Hüseyin, who has a considerable fortune, and his brother-in-law, Murat. Murat, the handsome young man of the village, is jealous of his brother-in-law because of his wealth and reputation; It creates controversy for trivial reasons.
Sabuncu Salih Efendi from Karaova, for his wedding; He distributes dawatiye to people who have memory and acquaintances in the villages of Bodrum, Milas, Yatağan and Muğla. He also visits Kafaca Village and leaves invitations to Hüseyin and his brother-in-law Murat.
The wedding day comes, Hüseyin and Murat, who are trying not to let the discord between them feel, decide to go to the wedding together, get on their horses and set out for Karaova. It's starting to get dark. Thereupon, they stayed at the house of Hüseyin's friend Süvari Hakkı Bey in Milas for the night. Murat spends the night restless, jealousy burns him like fire, he starts to think that he should get rid of his brother-in-law.
He plans to kill his brother-in-law, but is also afraid of him because Hüseyin is also a daring master. The next day, they set off again to go to Karaova.
Meanwhile, Murat is constantly thinking, when they take a break, he wants to check if his brother-in-law has a gun on him. Showing the bottle in his hand, he says, "Uncle, if you have a knife, let me open that bottle." Hüseyin looks at Murat and says, "You know very well that I carry nothing but a gun." Meanwhile, he checks himself and realizes that he forgot his gun; hastily:
- "Oops! Murat, my gun is left in Milas, should we go back and get it?" he gets on his horse. Murat's courage increased, his hatred increased. Secretly rejoicing:
He discourages him from returning to Milas by saying, “Divine brother-in-law, are we going to gang or bandit hunting”. When they arrive in Karaova, drums greet them, but again, honor is shown to Hüseyin. Not showing much attention to Murat deepens the wound of jealousy in him.
The next day, at mid-morning, wrestling will be held. The square was prepared, water lengers and oil boilers were brought. Wrestlers appear, drummers take their place. Hacı Gümüşoğlu Hüseyin is asked to initiate it. Hüseyin sends a message saying, "Wait, I'm coming, don't let the wrestling drum beat before I come." But the people waiting to watch the wrestling started to get bored. Taking this opportunity, Murat whispers a few words with the referee board and then signals for the wrestling to start. The drummers do not want to play; but Murat insists. Three pairs of kispets begin to beat, Hüseyin, who hears the sound of drums, comes to the wrestling square in anger, separates the first couple and slaps them. Murat intervenes and says that he started the wrestling. Hussein:
- When he said, “Today they call me Hacı Gümüşoğlu, who are you to start wrestling”; Murat gets angry, his eyes are dazed. He suddenly draws his knife, stabs his brother-in-law in front of everyone, while shouting:
- “From now on, they will call me Murat Efe, from now on they will call me Murat Efe!”
Hussein, who collapsed to the ground in blood, stays in the intensive care unit in Muğla State Hospital for five days, but cannot be saved. Sefika, Murat's beautiful sister with hazel eyes, cannot suppress her pain, she swears; On the day Murat dies or is executed, he will sacrifice a bull. Murat spent many years in Muğla Prison, and he became known as 'Murat Efe', which is what he wanted. Many years after the event, Murat dies, his older sister does not forget her oath, she sacrifices a bull on the day her brother died.
It is unknown whether other causes underlie this family tragedy. But the people do not forget Hacı Gümüşoğlu Hüseyin. They commemorate him with the 'Karaova Wedding' lament that has survived to this day.
