2 things people, for some reason, seemingly _never_ understand about RottenTomatoes. 1; It's not an average score website, it's an average like/dislike ratio website. It's sitting on 26%, which means that 1 out of 4 people will like it. 2; Movies are rated very differently from Games. A 5/10 movie is a _good_ movie. So when Suicide Squad is sitting on a 4.7/10, that means that means that it's _almost good._ And the bonus thing that people don't understand about society... No one fucking cares what you think and you shouldn't fucking care what anybody else thinks. Just fucking enjoy whatever it is that you enjoy and dislike whatever it is you dislike regardless of what the general consensus is. Now to actually _listen_ to the damned podcast instead of ranting aimlessly in the comments.
I wouldn't personally consider 5/10 a good score for a movie, it means its average but whats bad/average/good for someone might not be the same for someone else. But i do have to disagree on the whole "you shouldn't care what others think". If you were to see something to have a lot of negative reviews you will most likely be less willing to pay for said thing just because you see that most people dont like it. So it makes sense if you want to pick where to spend your money to look at what people who in this case have seen the movie, have to say about it.
Okay you realize you took time from listening to the podcast to write this comment? So you telling people to get out of the comments is very hypocritical
+Stampy Knows Gaming Half the reviews on IMDB are 10/10 given by fanboys before the official release of the movie. It's cancerous at best. Not that Rotten Tomatoes is much more reliable, but IMDB is far from being a reference in the business.
I personally use reviews to help me decide whether or not a movie is worth seeing in theaters or for watching much later on. I don't want to waste my theater experience on a trash movie.
I think it would have worked if this "Joker" wasn't the real guy, but a poser pretending to be HIS version of the Joker and upon seeing him, Harley just went "Who the fuck is this chucklehead?!?"
Did you just assume Elyse's gender, bro? Are you so insecure that you need project your reality onto other people regardless of what they are or believe in, bro? YOU PC BRO?
John Shepard I don't think Marvel has anything to do with it. People complained about BvS because it's a bad movie. And now people are complaining about SS because, sadly once again, it's a bad movie.
I think this is the best podcast i've ever seen/heard, and it gave me chills throughout to hear opinions that resonate to me, i really felt identified. Thanks guys, whis is why I watch/listen to this podcasts.
from what i read david ayers version was darker and grittier, but after the reception of BvS the studio made him do re shoots and add more comedic and light hearted moments.
It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter that the script was poorly written, or that the movie was edited in a incomprehensible way and it ended up being a bad movie. It doesn't matter that it got shit on by critics or that when the common moviegoer left the theater most of them uttered a collective 'meh'. Ask Michael Bay if any of that matters. What really matters is that the movie grossed over 130 million. It grossed more than Deadpool or Guardians of the Galaxy in their opening weekends. Was it a better movie? Nope. But we'll continue getting mediocre movies as long as people are willing to shell out their money for them.
I feel that funhaus needs a dedicated movie, tv shows ect podcast. I know they talk a lot about movies and shows but I need more of this specific topic. This is great!
Let me delight you with my abundant (useless) knowledge of blink-182 history. Tom Delonge and Travis Barker made Box Car Racer while blink was still together. It was just one album. And yes, Mark Hoppus sang on one of the songs called "Elevator." Then blink released their untitled album. After that, the band broke up and Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker made +44 while Tom went on his own and made Angels and Airwaves. And to address Elyse and Adam saying Tom was the problem, I say: Yeah, probably. But I love that dude.
I personally enjoyed it. Not necessarily thinking it was perfect but yet not hot garbage either. Thought the pacing was a bit weird in the beginning and was strange how a different song came on every couple minutes, but other than that, it was enjoyable. Maybe an age difference in the experience? This is coming from an 18 year old. Just an idea! 7/10 Love you Guise.
+LadyDominion I wouldn't really say sad about Heath, but affected? Yes. Even though I am more so a fan of a Mark Hamill style of Joker, I would say Heath raised the bar for Joker performances and the one Leto delivered fell flat for me. Whether or not the deleted scenes proves me wrong, those are just my thoughts right now.
LadyDominion You do have a point. Like I said, all the deleted scenes that "are enough to make another Joker Movie" should be included in people judging his performance. Maybe another 2nd viewing of the movie wouldn't hurt either.
I love that Movement Watches sponsor them, they make a point of saying that people should wear a watch instead of checking the time on their phone RIGHT AFTER they check their phones and find out that it's time to read the sponsors
This has to be the most anticipated Dude Soup of all time. Over a year ago they started talking about Suicide Squad on the podcast and after all the times it's been mentioned it's finally lead up to this moment. It's like the Super Bowl of podcasts.
39:04 - what episode of Batman: The Animated Series is James referring to where "everyone is standing around talking about that time when they nearly got batman"?
I absolutely loved the idea of having the Joker being in Harley's head. That was really cool, and a fresh way to add to her character and her development. As a longtime fan of Harley, I had never even thought about how to make her "new", so this podcast was really neat to be able to watch.
do I can understand why people are generally unhappy with Jared Leto's joker, but I feel like the idea behind him is that his style is supposed to be like a modern day gangster, kind of like how the original joker was like a crazy 40s gangster. that's just how I see his new look anyway and I find it kind of cool actually, I don't like the look in the sense that I think that gangster dress dumb nowadays, but I find the idea of a modern day version of the original joker very interesting. loved the podcast funhaus!!
+AAFroes or...you know...maybe he actually liked the movie. It's possible that not every single person hates that movie despite the nonstop, unrelenting criticism of it.
It's ok to like something, but I think he said it was "really good". But it's ok, for a second I forgot that Lawrence spends his days watching bad movies and loves it, so I understand
Yeah dude. I am a diehard Ghostbusters fan, and they made a ton of reference to the RPG books, never broke canon, and had great characters. The plot, villain, and setpiece characters were all hella lame (and the direction was garbage on a large number of occasions), the camerawork was lazy, and there was no moment of horror unlike the first 2, but that's not why you watch a Ghostbusters movie. It's all about character acting, hijinks, and the process of characters becoming heroes. Which it did very well. Also, aside from the terrible movie music, the sound design is perfection.
Elyse, I love that you're a part of Funhaus, not in a creepy Internet guy kinda way, but in a genuine way, like I appreciate your appearances and hope for much more. and not to discourage you, sometimes we (the audience) can tell you're a little nervous, and you have no need to be. You're a fine addition to Funhaus; also you being married to James is just icing on the cake since he's my favorite (mainly because he was the member of IG that intrigued me and introduced me to the rest of the group) but nevertheless I have love for all of you :)
gotta tell ya guys - I LOVE DUDE SOUP. I listen to every podcast you guys make. It's the only thing that i have on during my morning routine, while making eggs and stuff. And i love it mainly because you drift away to many topics and not necessarily just gaming stuff - Life experiences, ideology views and posisions - just a bunch of nice intellectual discussions. Love it, love you guys - keep it up. Sincerely, A fan from the good old days of IG.
I don't know, for the most anticipated movie of the year it was a massive let down, not because it was overhyped but because it was slightly funny sometimes and that's about it. DC should set higher standards rather than just put whatever out there and make tons of money. That's marvels job for the most part.
I think the reason people get disappointed because everytime they walk into a cinema they expect to see the next revenant and interstellar then get upset when it's not what they want
This is the 2nd Dude Soup podcast Ive watched and I really enjoy it. Maybe I just like them bagging on stuff they dont enjoy. This crew is really growing on me. =)
I think I've watched this video, maybe 6-7 times over the years, i dunno why, it's just a quintessential Funhaus podcast episode. Adam's presence will obviously sour all of these memories for me, but i wont deny the fun and sense of community I had around here.
I like this joker. Seeing him as modern day night club owner/gangster was cool. I wouldn't neccesarily want him to be like for any other movies but it was a good fun concept and looked good in my opinion. The material was shit though, and as much as I highly rate Leto as an actor I think he did a bad job.
The only thing that got me through Suicide Squad was the constant thought that Adam looks like Captain Boomerang and now I want a Captain Boomerang origin movie even more.
Lol I like the long periods where Bruce is looking at what im assuming is a screen out of frame with the game footage on it but it looks like he is just glaring at Elyse for extended periods of time.
I'm seeing a lot of people bitch and moan about how they are wrong about this movie, without any explanation. Can anyone actually give me a reason how this is a really really good movie??
watch the podcast. they basically break down why they personally dislike it. Shit editing, pacing, bland plot, bland antagonist, bland characters who have 2 lines.
DoctorPolitics No I know why most smart people recognize that this is a poorly put together movie, I want to know why some people think it's great or what makes it great.
+Grayson Myers I will agree with some if what they say but it didnt ruin the movie for me. I didnt think it was boring or anything l. Idk i guess im just not super picky
I think if you're not bothered by the plot inconsistencies and if you watch the movie in individual, 2 minute chunks, it's enjoyable. I don't know i asked my friend the same question and I could not understand where he was coming from.
The Little Prince is one of the best books ever, I have read it like seven times since I was like 8 years old (I´m not yet 25 now) and each time I read it again I find out more things about it and it just amazes me as a book that you can find different layers of work on it each time
+stowe yea but even when they do say that they always treat it as their opinion is greater. probably doesn't sound great how I worded that but whatever
+ezmkmone53 You mean they voice their opinion in a way that give it more validity? Because in their eyes, their is opinion is the the best one. Just like yours is the best in your eyes. They way they convey their opinion makes that opinion more attractive than other.
The thing about fan service is that if you do the characters well, and they are pulled from the page and feel like the tone and character that the medium portrayed them as, then you don't need fan service. Fan service becomes inherent in the characters themselves simply because they're done well and are the characters that you remember. Fan service becomes bad when you force that stuff with flat tone and a misunderstanding of the characters.
I disagree with elyse. this isn't like what happened with Zack snyder. David Ayer said himself this was his cut and his version and there'd be no "directors cut"
+ll4dude lol would you like me to me to post my own links where David Ayer says otherwise? trust me I didn't just try to blindly comment and be disrespectful in any way. I was just stating something.
+KakashiSenpai also I absolutely love funhaus and harley quinn/joker with a passion so I didn't mean to sound disrespectful like some people are assuming. all I did was comment something I personally saw and so I was confused about some comments on the podcast. I agree 100% with everything that was said this episode sooo
I loved the animated DC movie they were talking about with the Batman contingency plan thing. Also, when they asked Batman what his contingency plan was for himself he said, "The Justice League."
so if you don't like a movie the critics also didn't like you're a sheep? and if you decide you like it before even seeing it because it's a dc movie that's good?
i am a big dc fan i have every comic that the movie was supposed to ve based off of and i will tell you this movie is a disappointment plus will smith is a fucking horrible dead shot and harley os supposed to have jokers skinned face this had so much potential to be a great movie but they ruined it. just sayen black canary brings harley to jail when she gets in the squad not batman
wannatradepants Im talking about people who haven't seen the movie, and agree with the critics, instead of forming their own judgement. I can understand if people see the movie and don't like it.
If this comment isn't a joke you're pathetic. If you liked the movie stick by it, for Christ's sake. Who gives a shit what Funhaus thought of it if you had a good time. They'll shit on anything that isn't Overwatch at this point (For the record, I play at least a few hours a day. I love Overwatch) and even then for as much as they love the game, they're pretty garbage. Like most other games they play.
The issue is if I want to WATCH their podcast I want to see something worthwhile, otherwise I would just listen to it. They are notoriously bad at paying attention to basic instruction when starting games and then bumbling through the game confused as shit.
Suicide Squad has many problems. Script, editing, directing, music, villain. But with that said, I give it 6.4/10 because I enjoyed the chemistry between everyone,Amanda Waller was great, Will Smith is easily the best person in the movie. Everyone else is really good, no one is terrible.I don't know if I would enjoy the movie if I watched it home.Everything you guys said about the movie is spot on, I can't explain it, I just thought it wasn't that bad even though I see all the problems.
Well that was a given when they announced the cast. I knew Slipknot death was certain because they needed to establish that the nano bomb injected was real, so someone has to die for sure and he obviously would be the guy.
I thought Suicide Squad was the most basic summer blockbuster of the year. The thing that ruined the movie for me was how much it catered to the teenage audience and it was dreadfully predictable. The fact that Cara Deleveigne's character survived is unrealistic and makes no sense, but then again neither does the rest of the movie. it was obvious plot armor for the sequel. Despite all the negativity though, I enjoyed Margot Robbie and Will Smith's interactions. They seemed genuine and in large salvaged a lot of their character development, regardless of how bad their lines were. Also, Invite Elyse back to the Dude Soup Podcasts!

Adam's Joker impression at 10:24 and 29:11 never fails to crack me up.
Yeah I saw it on Friday. What a mess. So much potential :/
I thought so too, DC keep messing up great ideas and storylines just to be more like marvel.
The Joker was one of the best parts of the whole movie however he hardly got enough time and all get got was making a small plan to get Harley back
When BvS came out, everybody complained it wasn't enough like Marvel. Now after Suicide Squad everybody complains they try too hard to be like Marvel.
John Shepard I don't think Marvel has anything to do with it. People complained about BvS because it's a bad movie. And now people are complaining about SS because, sadly once again, it's a bad movie.
juanandlife Don't confuse your opinion for facts. A majority of fans liked the movie and thinks it's good.

from what i read david ayers version was darker and grittier, but after the reception of BvS the studio made him do re shoots and add more comedic and light hearted moments.
That makes a lot more sense as to why the movie has bad pacing if scenes were added afterwards
but when people said the re shoots were for humor DC fanboys denied it , and said it was for more action .
Batman and he fucking lied .
Batman yes we can , DC was scared after the clusterfuck that was BvS .
Batman but the movie feels like 2 movies in 1 , it's so obvious .

Also did not like Joker at ALL! The Pimp Kingpin didn't really work out for me and thought Leto didn't really fit.
+D3rpyman2000 well you're one of few who didn't like the Joker. I think you people are still sad about Heath Ledger. Get over that.
+LadyDominion I wouldn't really say sad about Heath, but affected? Yes. If nothing else, I enjoyed the movie's soundtrack immensely.
Hearing "Heathens" by twenty one pilots blasting out of the cinema speakers at the end credits literally gave me chills.

Most people wanted it to be DC's first really good movie. They had a great cast and potentially great plot. It ended up as just a mess.
This is the 2nd Dude Soup podcast Ive watched and I really enjoy it. Maybe I just like them bagging on stuff they dont enjoy. This crew is really growing on me. =)
suicide squad was a fucking trainwreck
I think I've watched this video, maybe 6-7 times over the years, i dunno why, it's just a quintessential Funhaus podcast episode. Adam's presence will obviously sour all of these memories for me, but i wont deny the fun and sense of community I had around here.
Girl in dude soup. No girl in title
Film theorist made a video that did a good job at explaining why the joker is so different in this video.
*movie
I like this joker. Seeing him as modern day night club owner/gangster was cool. I wouldn't neccesarily want him to be like for any other movies but it was a good fun concept and looked good in my opinion. The material was shit though, and as much as I highly rate Leto as an actor I think he did a bad job.
James, where can I buy that Harambe T-Shirt?
The only thing that got me through Suicide Squad was the constant thought that Adam looks like Captain Boomerang and now I want a Captain Boomerang origin movie even more.
wtf is that black dot underneath the funhaus logo i just spend 3 minutes trying to clean my screen...
Think it's just a bracket or something holding it up
That's a Dead Pixel. ;D
It's a microphone
I was wiping my screen to lol
+SevenFold L
bruce is that friend thats always likes to create fuckery in games that just makes everyone else mad.
Yes Suicide Squad does suck, but so does the DCEU so whats so surprising?
The Little Prince is one of the best books ever, I have read it like seven times since I was like 8 years old (I´m not yet 25 now) and each time I read it again I find out more things about it and it just amazes me as a book that you can find different layers of work on it each time
What is Adam's haircut name?
'The Kovic'
Walnut Panther
You could call it a low pompadour but really its just a fade and you'd sort of do the top yourself or tell your stylist what you want
+Kirk Hammett
beat me to it
It's called Slavery
Ahh, good times. I'm here because of RUclips's "Watch later." Lmaoo ♠️🖤
Nothing like a group of five white people talking about slavery to start a podcast
Bruce is black.
and mexican
and Jewish
And white.
Don't be stupid. Can you honestly look at Bruce and call him white? He is a multi race cornucopia
As someone who fell asleep in the movie, I woke up confused in several points, and came out of the movie realizing I missed nothing when I was asleep.
Waiter, there's a girl in my dude soup.
Hot garbage is actually a lot worse than cold garbage. Why?
BECAUSE IT STINKS!
I thought BVS was a train-wreck ..until i saw this...now i say the entire DCEU is a train-wreck.
omg i havent even watched the video but ELYSE IS ON THE PODCAST, MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!
What I'm getting from funhaus and every other opinion I've heard about these movies is that me being a DC fan is dumb at this point.
They said it's fine if you liked it, they just have their own opinion. They said it about five times through out.
+stowe yea but even when they do say that they always treat it as their opinion is greater. probably doesn't sound great how I worded that but whatever
+ezmkmone53 How.?
+jcxmotor5 it's hard to describe but the best way I can sum it up is that they're always right.....kinda
+ezmkmone53 You mean they voice their opinion in a way that give it more validity? Because in their eyes, their is opinion is the the best one. Just like yours is the best in your eyes. They way they convey their opinion makes that opinion more attractive than other.
Almost at the 1 million subs that's awesome you guys deserved to have the million a long time ago.
I gagged when Lawrence said Ghostbusters was phenomenal.
Suicide Squad is so underwhelming.
And I'm DC fanboy.
Yeah, it's very disappointing. Which it had gone with the original vision without studio interference
This and the Easy Allies podcast are the best podcasts out there. Ugh it's good stuff.
Elyse yeeeeeeees
one of the best dude soups in a while. Elyse!
I disagree with elyse. this isn't like what happened with Zack snyder. David Ayer said himself this was his cut and his version and there'd be no "directors cut"
+KakashiSenpai www.vulture.com/2016/08/suicide-squad-was-recut-to-be-like-its-trailer.html
get rrkt
this is why we Google and do research first before we comment, kids.
Also, when they asked Batman what his contingency plan was for himself he said, "The Justice League."
watch out. some dc sheep are gonna start a petition for shutting you down cause you didn't like the movie
The real sheeple are the people who follow only the opinions of critics, and not of themselves.
so if you don't like a movie the critics also didn't like you're a sheep? and if you decide you like it before even seeing it because it's a dc movie that's good?
#wakeupsheeple
i am a big dc fan i have every comic that the movie was supposed to ve based off of and i will tell you this movie is a disappointment plus will smith is a fucking horrible dead shot and harley os supposed to have jokers skinned face this had so much potential to be a great movie but they ruined it. just sayen black canary brings harley to jail when she gets in the squad not batman
wannatradepants Im talking about people who haven't seen the movie, and agree with the critics, instead of forming their own judgement. I can understand if people see the movie and don't like it.
Keep the seats filled on the podcast. Love the jump between opinions and the constant flow.
Also, throw some light on Lawrence. His alcoholism is showing.
Elyse is great in the podcast - dude soup needs a feminine touch to make it less chunky
+Foxclass No, her being female changes nothing, if anything she's the least feminine chick in the company.
Still Waiting. You'd agree that she is probably a woman, biologically?
What do you mean more feminine Bruce is amazing!!!
everytime I watch DudeSoup, the room that they're in makes me so jealous and Its like one of my dream rooms
Huh was it really that bad? :o I feel weird for enjoying it now...
It's only their opinion.
+STLBLUESLAMBOFGOD no their voice is the voice of the people!
Like most other games they play.
it's not a joke whatsoever! WAKE UP SHEEPLE!
+Michael Sciarrillo they are the voice of the angels! WAKE UP SHEEPLE!
Watching Bruce play No Man's Sky is killing me, he isn't doing anything correctly. God damn it Bruce. You are my special boy, I love you.
I think they're trying to pay attention to the conversation. The gameplay isn't super important.
+Foxclass they payed enough attention to shit on it ha.
The only bad character is the one who blew up after 5 seconds of screen time lol
Ugh, decimal scores....
+Mongzong Her at least do 6.5
Well that was a given when they announced the cast. I knew Slipknot death was certain because they needed to establish that the nano bomb injected was real, so someone has to die for sure and he obviously would be the guy.
What is your beef with decimal scores?
I thought Suicide Squad was the most basic summer blockbuster of the year. The thing that ruined the movie for me was how much it catered to the teenage audience and it was dreadfully predictable. The fact that Cara Deleveigne's character survived is unrealistic and makes no sense, but then again neither does the rest of the movie. it was obvious plot armor for the sequel. Despite all the negativity though, I enjoyed Margot Robbie and Will Smith's interactions. They seemed genuine and in large salvaged a lot of their character development, regardless of how bad their lines were.
Also,
