- Today its time to durability test the Samsung Fold 4. Grab a Teardown Skin for your phone HERE: dbrand.com/teardown/fold-4 Im a huge fan of the phone phone lineup. All fancy and stuff. I'm not sure which I would prefer, the Fold or Flip since both are equally awesome. But... of course... only if Samsungs folding phones can survive the test of time. Come watch as we put years worth of stress on the new Fold 4 from Samsung to see how it holds up.

@@niko1even I've had it for a month, and it has been really solid. I find it a bit underwhelming tbh, but it's cool to use. I personally don't like the taskbar that apparently is a big step up from previous models. It takes away a bunch of screen realstate for my taste, and its supposed functionality can be achieved with the normal open apps gesture from stock android.
@@RobCabreraChyou probably already realized it but if you press it for few seconds its dissepear. I also bought it and have it for a few days now and it's pretty solid for now.
"apple has trained consumers to be happy about nothing new" wise words and pure gold!
I mean, that’s probably why they are the most profitable phone manufacturer. Think about it.
@@Ryotsu2112 actually it’s cuz iPhones don’t hold the highest amount of phones in total but they are the highest sold in the higher price market,
Meaning android’s may sell more than iPhones but it’s due to the budget phone models, like the cheap Walmart , virgin mobile, metro pcs, cricket wireless, boost mobile and free government phones given away to millions each year which also explains why the most used android version has always been a 3-4 year old version
Like now that android 13 is just coming out, the actual most widespread android version is still android 9-10 and that’s due to most of those cheap budget phones come with those old versions and they typically never get upgraded to the newer version
If most people android users actually had the most current Samsung Galaxy phones and pixels then buy shear default the use of the current android version would also be more widespread since those more expensive flagship phones come with the newer android version pre installed and get the next update at least
@@Ryotsu2112 They aren't tho Samsung moves more units globally than them every year

Aside being the same for the most part, Samsung did made the only IP rated water resistant foldables, which is nice. It's strong enough to withstand Zack's bending too, another points added to a seemingly fragile device. 👍🏾
It also needs to be mentioned that a newer model of iPad snapped in half because it had a microphone and some antenna bands in some not so smart spots, which makes it even more impressive when a folding phone survives the bend test
Why do i read this comment in Zacks voice?!
@@skeeo7393 That really doesn't say something as that iPad was only one product with that failure.
It's kinda like saying the S22 Ultra is impressive because the Oneplus 10 failed.
As a Korean, I'm surprised no western tech RUclipsr mentions the fact that the water drop 💧 hinge design in Oppo Find N was stolen tech from Samsung. The reason Samsung chose to go w/the current U hinge design instead of the crease-less💧 hinge was due to the advantages of water resistance, Flex mode, & overall durability.

What a truly unique review style. Love it; especially for your voice, which blew me away. Nice going sir!
I bought a Fold 4 recently. I'm a welder, and I'm terrified about metal dust getting in the phone hinges and soft inner screen. I put it in a sandwich bag and put it in my toolbox. Seeing how well it does in the dust test here, lowers some of my fears about it though. It is still a bit worrisome to take it out of the bag and see there is still grinder dust on the magnetic spots though.
I'm not a welder but I work in a shop. If I bought a fold I would destroy it for sure in this environment.
Im painter and carpenter and I do work on construction projects every day in mega dusty environment , fold 4 is my fourth fold from Samsung and all of them have with me at my work non stop. I can tell you that I wash my fold 2 in wash machine, fold 3 landed deep into beach sand and never any of them fail me even once. All gets scratches on the hinge and that's all. Most complains i heard on internet comes from people who didn't have this phone. If you really wory I suggest to buy spigen armor pro case which seals phone from every direction.
Lmfao! Im a welder too, been ruining phones every year or two. Metal getting into speakers, grinding dusk in-between the case, scratching it to sh1t. I want one of these, but it wouldn't last a week.
Hows that phone working out now, just curious.. I'm buy one myself
Sprinkler fitter here had the fold 4 for a few months now. have been lucky enough not to drop it. I drill alot of concrete to hang pipes hopefully dust does not effect it in the future

Watching on my Fold 4, I was anxious to see how it would fare without the internal metal plate behind the inner screen. Glad to see it passed with flying colors (or should I say burned colors 😅)
Same here 😂 I see that the fold 4 is thinner than the Fold 3, so I was a bit afraid that it may bend backwards but nope!
How does the weak larger screen affect your usage of the phone? And how is the video/movie viewing experience on a square shaped display?
This made me uncomfortable to watch 😆
You should have said frying colors 😉
@@TheGamerTeo The weak inner screen affects my usage not at all. I just have to conciously know not to drop it if its opened. Much like a Nintendo DS, the device protects the inner screen by itself when closed. I watch a lot of RUclips and the square screen does mean black bars, but coming from an iPhone 11, the black bar screen is still bigger than my iPhone was, and looks way better. Flex mode is also great for watching content without holding the phone. Gaming with Emulators is amazing, especially with the square screen for 4:3 and DS games. My favorite thing so far is the Kindle app. I own and activly use my kindle paperwhite all the time, but havnt touched it since I got the Fold since the screen is bigger, crisper and now more convenient. Also all my downloaded books have covers, unlike on my paperwhite.
You gotta do the bend test vertically/horizontally as well to show how it fares when open. I'm unsure how to differentiate between the two. I'm curious how the spine holds up then, let alone the screen.
Well done sir loved it
I really do have to say thank you for these videos, Zack. Since there's so much overlap for smartphone internals and performance, a lot of my purchases are based on your tests! I loved the idea of folding phones from the start, but didn't end up going for one until I saw the flip 3 survive all the dirt and gravel you put it through (I took mine to the beach and the hinge is still a whisper). The inner screen has some minor damage, but thanks to your videos I knew what I was getting into with the softer inner screen and to be perfectly honest the thing has exceeded my expectations in terms of staying alive despite my daily abuse.
SO I guess my point is this: Thank you for making all of this info freely available for so many years. Even if a particular phone isn't the most durable, it's really nice to know in advance exactly what I'm getting into, and not end up with a bending iPhone 6.

First durability test I've been able to watch on the phone it's on, great video Zack, loved the quips!
What impresses me most about this phone (I just got it in July) is the battery time. I tried its battery from 100% and streamed high-quality series and movies for over 10 hours before it went dead. Ofc it was not high in light but it wasn't low either. The picture in Avatar 2 was stunning quality, and I had a hard time believing this was a so good Tablet in a phone, or is it the other way around?
Amazing for travel too :) If someone had told me in '72 that some like this TV would come in pocket size and that it could call the world and have all info at my fingertips in secs, I wonder what I would have said? The dude is crazy? Folding small high-color TV...??? Naaaaaa... Get out of here!!!

"Nah Apple does it every year"
hahaha shots fired I love it, My Mom literally upgrades every year to the newest model while my Dad still has my old Iphone 5s I gave him back in like 2016 when I switched to Android.
Haha just goes to show how amazing iPhones age, I’m sure you’ve seen the video but if you compare an S5 to a 5s the S5 isn’t at all useable. The iPhone however still works well, slow, but well. iPhones are an investment. They age well and don’t force you to upgrade every year.
@@tommolewis3105 that was 8 years ago, a lot has changed since then
@@Bonedagi missed my point entirely. Same trend can be seen throughout the line. A 6s holds up a lot better than an S6, an X holds up a lot better than an S8. iPhones age better, they get software updates for longer and they always have more powerful processors at their time of launch, combine that with how optimised IOS is and they’re build to last
Poor mommy
@@tommolewis3105 they don't really have a faster processor more of a lighter OS. IPhone sales have been decreasing the past 5 years that's why they have been trying to build their own chips to increase profit margins

Despite the worse case scenarios on a fold. I had my Z Fold 2 since September 2020 and has never failed me. 💯 I've ran while it rained, dropped it with and without a case and neither the interior or exterior screen ever cracked or have any sort of scratches! Now with the Z Fold 4 I'm hoping it lasts me until the 7th or possibly the 8th gen. If they continue to thrive 👀
Brian: How fake you want this comment to be?
Samsung: Yes.
@@TheSageocool lmao nah fam, I'm just an average dude
I actually have the OG fold. Got a little bit of water splashed on the inner display, then boom sent to Samsung. However in terms of surviving drops, it was a beast (with the protector it came with). I dropped it at least 100 times, in concrete, tile, carpet, and wood, with no cracks on the outer display or inner/hinge operation damage. The inner display stopped working however, when I launched myself of my electric board. The phone flew nearly 40 feet in front of me, shedding its protector pieces along the way, but no cracks on the outer display or problems operating it.
@@paper8nintendo bro props for buying the OG fold. I could never own that version for so many reasons 😅 I wouldn't mind it but the size of the small exterior screen would be a hassle for me. The fold 2 wasn't bad but wasn't perfect either exterior screen wise. These extra 3mms make a difference.
Are you trading in your OG Fold?
Neither should it fail in barely 2 years old , my galaxy S8+ is well over 5 years old and still in pristine condition and I’ve used the hell out of it , if your fold lasts for for 3 years without being to the repair shop i will be utterly amazed, and lets not forget , to wear a phone out you actually have to use it .

I'm gonna be getting one of these phones soon, and I'm honestly ok with little change. I believe that not everything needs to radically change every year. Have been waiting for this vid. Just upgraded from my Fold3 to Fold4 and must say it is a little nicer. Front screen being a touch bigger is nice too.
I actually think the design is fine, no need to change something that works :)
Personally I like the Fold line because the foldable screen tech is fascinating to me. And while the screen *is* soft and relatively easily damaged, their engineers really did their best to protect it when it's not in use!
What's keeping me from buying one is a) the price and b) the almost square aspect ratio. Since most of the videos I watch are in 16:9 this thing us useless to me as a "tablet".
I'd just get the Tab S8 Ultra instead to be totally honest with you! Which is a device that actually fought back during your testing, so I guess that almost earns it a spot in my backpack 😅
so i measured. the biggest youtube videos get is 6.5 inches hinge horizontal. 5.5 inches if its hinge vertical. my s22 ultra didnt display videos that big because of the screen ratio being 19.3:9
Only good thing with the screen, you can watch justice league snyders cut, because aspect ratio😂
I got the Fold4 and watching YT works great. Especially watching a video and reading comments at the same time
@@MrMiirzaa :D
My major reasons are 1 yea the soft screen, i would scratch that so quickly. 2 i think when folded its kind ugly and clunky. 3 probably the biggest reason the creasing that happens in the middle that these tests don’t show. I kinda just accepted that basically having a pocket sized glass rectangle that doesn’t fold is just a better idea. Maybe when holographic or projection tech hits the phone market we can have bigger screens
JerryRigEverything: I f**K it up, so you don't have to! I also love the running dialogue in the background there. I picked up a Z Flip 3 after your video on it last year, and I love it so far. I dropped it in some mud without a case on it over the winter, got all kinds of dirty. I brought it inside and (with some hesitance) ran it under the faucet for a moment or two, opening and closed it a little, dried her off and she's fine. After 1 year I need to change the stock screen protector out, the one it came with has a crack along the crease. No damage though. Great phone, in my opinion.
I am terrified of this phone. However your video has help quell some of that fear. Plus you are so funny! Thanks for the information and all the laughs.
This one for sure was creative, I liked this side of the durability testing

Good to see I don't need to upgrade for another year though! Thanks Zack!
I also skipped the 4 holding on to my 3 which was replaced at 6 months old due to bad pixels on the inner screen plus I've got Cares+ on it. I did, however, bite on the GW5 pro.
I had a Z fold 2 and got the 4 the gaming juice in the 4 is a big jump between those two. I don't know how well the 3 vs 4 was however.
@@Aceofh They're basically the same which is why I kept my 3 with care+ coverage.

First one after 6 months the inner screen started coming apart, even though I barely used it..and then my 2nd one, I dropped it accidentally like a couple of inches and the whole front screen cracked sadly. Considering doing one of the Black fri deals and switching to the s22 ultra, especially since it has a better battery and cameras. And then going back to the fold series hopefully when the 5th comes out (If its a better upgrade then the Fold4).
@@themusiclover8440 I considered going to a S22 ultra myself but decided to stick with the fold a little bit longer. I'm hopeful that this second one will last me until I'm ready to trade for something newer.
I'm surprised more people aren't shocked at how easily the inner screen scratches! At level 2 you can permanently damage your inner screen if your finger nails are slightly long that's absolutely ridiculous for a phone this expensive!
That’s why I’m staying away from foldables right now until the tech improves for the inner screens. I almost switched from an iPhone this year, but I'm glad I decided to stay with Apple for the time being.

But as always excellently implemented and very useful 👍😎
The Humor in this video is worth coming back n watching it again on a bad day.
I was really afraid to bend my phone backwards accidentally but this video gave me confidence. Thanks
