But at around 1912 the Qing dynasty ended and many Asian male students were going west to America and Europe to study and they did not wear pigtails much anymore.

Hello blogger, thank you for letting me watch this video. It's like a dream. I come from China and to be honest, I don't like modern times. I want to go back to the past when the pace of life was slow and happy. The development is too fast now, and the pressure is too great. Everyone is making progress. You can't slack off because you won't be able to keep up with the development of the times. When I was a child in the 1990s, although I was poor, I was happy. Now, although living conditions have improved, I am not happy

This is a rather incredible restoration-many thanks for your efforts! This period was but a scant 75 or so years after the Opium Wars of the late 1830s-early 1840s whereby the Qing Dynasty fell into disarray, formerly enjoying one of its most prosperous periods of China’s long history. The Forbes family and others from Great Britain and the U.S. profited immensely from performing as drug peddlers writ large. To this day, China is still trying to recover its former glory, and the actions then of the West in essence was indirectly responsible for the ushering in of autocratic rule and the era of Mao Zedong in 1949.

This film is just before the postWWI upheavals. Mao Tse Tung came to power and the Communists defeated the Nationalists in 1949 with the last few Nationalists fleeing to Formosa (Taiwan). The Chinese Communist Party doesn't recognize the Taiwanese state and threatens reunification by force.

The same goes for the US apparently being the "richest" country on earth.

I'm Chinese but i hate this city and its nearby regions, because there are too many historical trashes from Qing dynasty.
Ironically, Beijing runs as China capital, resulting in a nation which looks modern but actually outdated and door-closing.
