There IS a prequel novel to the first game called "Hostile Takeover". It basically sets up all the shenanigans with Fisk and explains how and why Peter and MJ broke up.
Hot take: I don't find Yuri Lowenthal's Spider-Man to be all that funny. I'd say he's charming, but not funny, and this is a trend I've noticed happening with Spider-Man portrayals within the past decade or so. I don't think it's Yuri's fault either, I think he has the voice acting chops to be a hilarious Spider-Man, but the jokes he's given are pretty subpar imo. These days, writers don't seem to make Spider-Man actually make fun of the villains, his quips usually surmount to him talking mostly to himself in a "relatable and dorky" kind of way, which to be fair Spider-Man has also always done, but he used to shit on his enemies and really make them look like clowns too. I don't get that vibe from the Insomniac Spider-Man though. Just go back and watch the 90s cartoon, Spectacular, and even some of the older games and you'll probably see what I mean. This isn't just with Insomniac Spider-Man though. Tom Holland's Spider-Man, the Ultimate and 2017 cartoons, among other things, all kind of portray Spider-Man as this dorky, relatable little bean nowadays.
