    That is one of the best ways to rig flat falls.
    I rigged mine the same way and never had a issue with them after that.
    Lost 5 fish on 1 trip due to factory set up chew through.

    Are you using a wind-on leader for this setup? I'm assuming your just running a swivel clip on the end of your mono topshot to a crimped loop (w' chafe tube) that's on the end of that rigged flatfall ? So that FF you just made has a crimped loop in the end of the flouro? That you connect to your mainline (mono?) with a snap swivel, is that correct?

    Dang, that gear makes my swimbait combo look like a Dock Demon 😂. I just got a couple of Lucky Craft CIF 110's for rockfish, lingcod and surf perch, bass fishing is great but saltwater fishing in the winter on the Barview jetties is hard to get away from.

    how do you tie that 200 lb mono to your main line

  • @jeffsmith825
    @jeffsmith825 4 года назад +1

    Interesting. Is there not a solid ring there at the top because it's straight to a swivel. Any and all split rings scare me with big fish. I now use a Owner Ultra Split rings in 8-9mm that are 300+lb test but I still like a solid ring. I rig flat falls with 2 jigging master 15/0's for big tuna. Recently I've been rigging both hooks on a large JM figure 8 at the top with one hook the length of the jig. Just peace of mind not to worry about the split ring. Obviously I've had a couple bad experiences with heavy duty split rings opening or breaking ha so I just don't play with it at all anymore.

    • @jeffsmith825
      @jeffsmith825 4 года назад

      And I don't use Kevlar, PE, anything like that for assist cords on big tuna they chew it up. 49 strand nylon coated wire not sure the test but is 2mm crimp. Sometimes I'll add a 2 inch squid skirt to the hooks and it's amazing how often it's that hook that ends up in the tunas mouth. Tight lines!

      @@BigBassDreams there are lots of ways to catch big fish i think it comes down to what you have confidence in. Fishing in general I think is a trial and error game but videos like yours help people avoid the same mistakes we've made! I lost a couple hundred dollars worth of jigs to nice yellowfin before I said enough with the 900lb Kevlar. Don't want others to do the same!

    • @pompanomike8704
      @pompanomike8704 Год назад

      So, do you use split rings or no? At the top of your post you say "I now use Onwer Ultra ... 300lb split rings" and at the bottom you say "I've had bad experiences with heavy duty split rings .... so I just don't play with it all anymore". If you don't use split rings, how do you attach the hooks to the jig ?? Solid ring and silver solder ??

  • @pompanomike8704
    @pompanomike8704 Год назад

    Billy, curious why you choise #7 and #8 split rings. They seem small. These are 80 and 120lb rated. Yet your ball bearing swivel is 500 lbs. Lol. I guess if your line is 80-100 lb, it doesn't matter much on teh split ring? And maybe you just want a small split ring.
