Sir Anthony, what a monumental talent! 84 years old, still with us as I write this. I like to imagine in someone's tribute package for him, that last exchange from this scene would cap it off. "Should I be afraid?" "Not a man like you." Orchestral swell. Fitting.
Sadly, such a wonderful movie so unappreciated. The acting with the eyes and facial expressions is spectacular and it continues to be my favorite movie of all time. Thank you for making such a masterpiece.
No people whirling through the air, no bloody fighting stunts, just the soft tones, the great pictures AND the congenial music make such a wonderful movie, THANK YOU!
Last conversation I had with my father, night before he died of a heart attack, was almost like the 'Do you love Drew?" scene. All he asked if I was happy. Said taht places and jobs will come and go - relationships and friendship - but don't stay with anything that is going to make you so unhappy that it hurts or destroys you. It's been 18 years since he has been gone - and it had taken me 15 years to get it. This movie is beautiful, underrated and unique.
Im so sorry for ur loss, my own dad is getting old and heart attack is something I truly truly fear. I love him unconditionally and so when I watched this movie, it struck a chord with me. Truly special movie ❤. Do you have any wisdom to share with me about how i should be with my dad in terms of talking because i really want him to know that i care for him.
I only recently watched this movie for the first time and instantly was mesmerized. So unique, so understated and yet explosive in it's impact. Just wonderful.
Since discovering it nearly 2 months ago [BBC2 TV], I've watched sections of it obsessively ever since, and think I shall continue to do so! Hopkins may be my favourite male actor (and why I watched) but GREAT performance from Brad and especially Claire.
One of my all time favorite movies, and Claire's acting and voice, along with those actors, the best, u have to watch it every time I can. It gives me a great appreciation for life itself.
Yes - Forlani's voice can be so gentle, understated "in the most... seductive way", and expressive. It is one of her finest among many excellent acting tools, including the expressive eyes, humble dropping of the head and shy, yet winning, smile. For me she's among the top, top actresses in Hollywood, for both serious and frivolous rôles (love her in 'Boys and Girls' and 'The Diplomat' [Prime] ). Here's hoping she makes more films (movies!) through her fifties and beyond. We love you, Claire (and Dougray BTW).
I’ve watched quite a couple Brad Pitt movies and have never been fascinated and goowey eyed over Brad Pitt. Never quite understood what the fascination was BUT this movie really got me falling in love with him. Such a character, really fell in love with him as an actor. His ability to switch from exuding such a warm, curious yet charismatic demeanour to one of a boyish attractive one in just a flip of a scene really grabbed every piece of my attention and joy in this movie. And the music really guided our emotions through and through! What can I say… such is life! A true masterpiece. They don’t make movies like these anymore, it’s almost 3 hours long but doesn’t feel as though at all. Oh the 90’s… good times
Brad Pitt made his share of movies. I think personally that this one is one of his finest performances. Playing Death in most sensitive and moving way. And handsome ......oh yes indeed.
At the end, knowing hes going to die, standing on the steps, HE'S the one that turns and motions lets go. Shows how powerful the character is portrayed. THAT'S the strongest part of the movie
I want to scream loudly, WHAT A FINE MOVIE, I remember watching it for the first time and thinking, this is as good as film making could get. The story , the romance the script, the performance of each and everyone.
I so love claire in this movie. Her eyes are unbelievable. Shes so sweet, meek and sensitive. I cud watch this movie a 1000 times. Im a guy and i still cried.
The Movie is enchanting and the diner scene is one of the best since Bogart and Bergman in Casablanca. Dark yet beautiful film favorite. Bravo, one and all!
I saw the original , it was in Black an White , back in the 70s , late one night , it was titled Death Takes a Holiday , never forgot it but Joe Black takes it to another Level , both are worth the watching
It seems like most of us are commenting here in 2021. We couldn’t escape the fact that this is the most wonderful movie created, “It’s hard to let go, right? That’s life. What else can I tell you?”
Since discovering it nearly 2 months ago [BBC2 TV], I've watched sections of it obsessively ever since, and think I shall continue to do so! Hopkins may be my favourite male actor (and why I watched) but GREAT performance from Brad and especially Claire.
Omg my fave movie - its that type of story where even if you know what happens its still makes you cry and unfolds layers of emotions on you. The musical scoring and the acting. 🥺 just wow. 💗
It was 1 year after Titanic when this movie was shown in cinemas. If you put Titanic and Meet Joe Black together, this is such a gorgeous and beautiful hollywood movie that i ever seen in the late 90's.
I first saw Anthony Hopkins in the brilliant film A Lion in Winter. Hopkins was Richard Plantagenet (the Lionheart). This film starred Peter O'Toole, Kate Hepburn, and Timothy Dalton among others. This was Hopkins' first film and he was fabulous. Richard was such a complex roll and he held his own with his costars. Hopkins has only become better over the decades!
One of my favorites. Not sure about others or why this movie did not get 4 stars. It’s so moving and different. Love the story of father and daughters and the real love between the characters. The end with the music. Cried my eyes out! lol
The multiple takes perfectionism of Martin Brest in this case has produced an incredible movie where every sentence of the script is gold, where the whole ensemble cast goes through character arcs and actors move in a meaningful choreography. However, such incredible quality has lead to lack of productivity, not making a movie after 2003.
Interesting process vs. Breaking Bad’s Vince Gilligan who tries to use the least amount of takes, 2 to 4 (with the exception of the scene when Gus gets blown up in half).
Dude says the idea occurred to him, lol. Right, lol. This movie is a remake of a 70' s movie called " Death Takes a Holiday" with Melvyn Douglas, Monte Markham & Yvette Mimieux. Same basic story.
Had a meal with it; in a restaurant in Seri Kembangan. It was harmless; all pack in a body. It eats Chinese. - On a long "lost uncle"; found back in early Y2K
I think that when Brad Pitt was doing his interview for Meet Joe Black (1998), he was getting ready to film Fight Club (1999). That's why Brad's hairstyle is that of Tyler Durden.
I love the movie!! And as it was said the idea of death taking on a human form to experience life is an extraordinary idea and I think all the actors were great - I just wish they ended it with the walk over the bridge (the „Happy End“ feels forced)
I feel it ties it back to the beginning at the coffee shop. And reinforces that Death did tell dare be vulnerable and risk her rejection and tell her his “darkest” secret who he really is, and she still told Death she loved him. As well as she still has the man she first fell in love with at the coffee shop. I’d be left wondering what happened to him. And makes it easier to let go of her dad and understand the whole situation. I do like she did not go look for his body once she understood the whole picture. I loved the different characters Brad played. I’ve never cared for him except for today I was able to appreciate him. I did see the movie when it came out, but today all pieces sunk in and I appreciated Brad Pitt.
On the contrary he is where he is in spite of his appearance, because he's quite good at his job. He could have had a completely satisfying career as a model, and yet he gets to star alongside the likes of Anthony Hopkins because of his ability, not his looks.
I can only think you are jealous? he is actually a very good actor despite of his looks. I can think of many actors who suck but are known because of their looks, he is a rare occasion where he actually got talent.
Such a great story with different characters, strong and surprising 🌠 one of my favorite movies 💖🌟💖
🙏👌🙏 thanks a lot from Germany 🙏👌
Bitte ❤😍❤

Utter nonsense.
This is a masterpiece of a film
Brad is amazing ,Sir Anthony hopkins is amazing.I fell in love with the Daughter .Great film one of my favourites .

Very well said, thank YOU!

A timeless classic and still one of my favourite movies. Claire and Brad looked so gorgeous in this film.
I’m 48, this is my best movie, second to none, Claire and Brad, best performance❤❤
Lets not forget the Music. The highs and lows were superb. Great Movie,Great Cast,Great Story,Great Music.❤️
Thomas Newman is transcendent. My favorite living film composer for sure, along with the great John Williams.
I only recently watched this movie for the first time and instantly was mesmerized. So unique, so understated and yet explosive in it's impact. Just wonderful.
Every once in awhile I revisit this movie. Like a great meditation retreat it reminds me of who I really am. This is a gift. Not "just " a movie🙏🏼💐❣️

One of the most romantic movie endings..............
ALL TIME! And 1 of the most beautiful music scores🎶..........
Brad Pitt made his share of movies. I think personally that this one is one of his finest performances. Playing Death in most sensitive and moving way. And handsome ......oh yes indeed.
Egal was er spielt , ich schaue nur auf sein hübsches Face. Und ,, Silberblick-Augen" Help!! 3: 23

@@DeeDee-qx6cu Yes. Wonderful atmosphere created by Thomas Newman. Helps make the film what it is.

One of the best movies I’ve seen. Romantic, sexy, funny, cunning. Feast for the eyes. Must see. Elegant and touching.
The Movie is enchanting and the diner scene is one of the best since Bogart and Bergman in Casablanca. Dark yet beautiful film favorite. Bravo, one and all!
An amazing movie an amazing script writer, amazing director an everyone played their role superb

One of my favorite movies of all time!
Der Film 🎥 ist Perfekt. Weiss nicht wie oft ich ihn schon gesehen habe.
My FAVORITE movie.PERFECT ACTING and MUSIC.
Omg my fave movie - its that type of story where even if you know what happens its still makes you cry and unfolds layers of emotions on you. The musical scoring and the acting. 🥺 just wow. 💗
Best combination pf actor's
Brilliant movie making, brilliant actors.

I love this movie. :) Brad Pitt did very well as "Death".
My all-time favorite movie.
Death Takes a Holiday, 1934, with Fredric March. Movie this was based on. Both films are extraordinary!
Very last scene brad looks like Robert Redford i cant stop seeing it.
Criminally responsible underrated movie
Amazing movie with amazing performances of Brad Pitt Anthony Hopkins

Your going to ruin my vacation. 😂
8:58- Bill turned and was ready to go...
Joe was reluctant to let the experience end and wanted more..
Great acting from the entire cast..👊
That has to be one of few favorite movie 🎥
Most underrated movie ever

Love Brad great actor
Claire is gorgeous
This movie and The Saint are my two favorite romantic movies.
Man, Hopkins was old when this movie was released….2021: still acting.
My absolute favorite movie
Claire Forlani made me want to move to England and find my own Claire...
impossible, but as good a reason as any to move there…
Great Film
I was so fortunate to see this film before it was described for me
we love Quince!...beatiful movie!
" I do FOUR takes " He was the same age there that I am now, and I know what he means.
Isn't everyone going to wonder why Claire is now dating the IRS agent "Joe Black"?
😂 that is funny right. Lol😮
Love this movie. I had fun.
Dude says the idea occurred to him, lol. Right, lol. This movie is a remake of a 70' s movie called " Death Takes a Holiday" with Melvyn Douglas, Monte Markham & Yvette Mimieux. Same basic story.
君だけの宝者を😊
I really thought Quince was doctor Phil...damn
This movie is amazing, but it always weird me out ³/5ths of the way through the movie anthony Hopkins starts kissing his daughters on the lips
Had a meal with it; in a restaurant in Seri Kembangan. It was harmless; all pack in a body. It eats Chinese. - On a long "lost uncle"; found back in early Y2K
Underrated performance by Sir Anthony Hopkins!
Nonsense
❤❤❤
Brad has Fight Club hair 🧼
I think that when Brad Pitt was doing his interview for Meet Joe Black (1998), he was getting ready to film Fight Club (1999). That's why Brad's hairstyle is that of Tyler Durden.
ありがとう😊

I wish they interviewed Jake Webber (Drew) for this.
Gardot's double, I mean Wonder Woman? Claire Forlani uhn?
Nope, Claire has a delicate femininity that is unmatched… but I see what you mean.
How do you play act across someone like Hopkins? I’d be so intimidated by him.
My mom and dad have been trying to get me to eat peanut butter a lot lately however
9.33 ... 9.37
WELL-CRAFTED BUT FOR ONE OVERSIGHT: GOD. DEATH IS NOT THE LAST WORD.
Brad Pitt did justice to his role. But IMHO Anthony Hopkins and Clair Forlani both easily outperformed Brad, if you understand what acting is.
Claire's superb acting makes me surprised, outperformed brad pitt much, she is always the most gorgeous graceful elegant woman I have ever seen!
O0o|
What?
This movie was racist and didn’t have enough strong female women of colour.
Good joke
@Plato Genova….Your mama is coming down the stairs with your Cocoa Puffs…go eat them with your chocolate milk and be quiet.
Uh oh, the Susan Woejewski clan is here.
that’s life, what can I tell you 🤷🏻♂️
Brad sucks as an actor...he is where he is solely because of appearance ...anthony hopkins? Looks,talent,brains..the whole nine
On the contrary he is where he is in spite of his appearance, because he's quite good at his job. He could have had a completely satisfying career as a model, and yet he gets to star alongside the likes of Anthony Hopkins because of his ability, not his looks.
Legends of the Fall, this movie, Snatch, Inglorious Basterds, Fight Club? I am astonished how you got to the conclusion that he's a bad actor.
Somebodys wife said something hurtful
Space Cowboy you’re obviously not at a level of judging actors. He is a great actor and his appearance is a bonus!
I can only think you are jealous? he is actually a very good actor despite of his looks. I can think of many actors who suck but are known because of their looks, he is a rare occasion where he actually got talent.
Such a great movie, the acting was amazing.
