Service loco preparing for duty

Part of the preparations involve opening a blowdown valve that allows particles to move from the boiler. This is what is being done in this case. Once the water level reaches a certain point the fireman will sound the whistle to stop the process. Once stopped the fireman will put the injector on, depending on how many inches are required the process maybe repeated. Seen in the video are workshop staff and loco crews.
