- So a good customer asked if we could find a mk1 Golf GTI 1800 and make it factory fresh !! , First we needed to find a car
So here’s the first part of our back to factory GTI build
Being a purist, I really do appreciate, and like to see, a factory original restoration, I’m looking forward to more content on this car❤.
The car will look great and you and Fudge well do a great job

Love a mk1! I asked the same lad about 5 years ago if he would part with one of his golf mk1s as he had 2 or 3 in that tent garage on his drive and he had 2 mk1 caddy’s outside.

Careful when you choose the paint, there's two mars red's, depends on year, and they're a fair bit different

Looking forward to this GTI resto, I had a Golf Formel E in 1982 in Mars Red with the 1.1 engine.

Wow a lot of work there, I have a couple of VWs I feature on my channel a Polo Breadvan and VW T4 but currently I’m working on my 04 merc sprinter van, just a tidy up job but I keep finding more rust 😩 I’ll look forward to seeing this one moving along I’ve just subbed 🙂👍

Love the mk1 I had a mk2 1800 8 valve in tornado red and it was a great car the best I ever had.

Ugh if you weren't at the other end of the country some of those bits would be perfect for the MK1 convertible I'm currently trying to acquire with a view to turn it into some kind of offroad military-look type thing!

A remarkably clean shell - a perfect restoration project. Single headlamps are correct for the year - pre campaign spec.
Man here has a mk3 golf estate 1.9d.

Well, what an exciting project we are going to be watching. Can’t wait to see you and Fudge get stuck into the strip down and bodywork on this Mk1 Golf. Already wishing the next episode can be viewed. Time to cue the music Da da da de da da da, and get the whiry noise maker to start undoing some bolts.
Absolutely fantastic project Al...will be glued to this one, costs can mount when going factory original but I have faith in you like to see more folks subscribing,, your content is amazing and performed with good old Dorset common sence! more fags and coffee needed buddy! looks like this will get the VW owners flocking to watch!!!! all the very best buddy!
Back in the 80s owned a mk 2 gti demonstrator on p slot wheels awesome then scirocco gt then more golf’s but had test drive in mk1 gti brakes were dire.

@@6DDIESELSDorset Um, Did your 3 spoke fandango's drive the girls wild with excitement? i did have a set of slot mags on my rover p6 .If a car was ever unsuited to slotmags , then its the P6.

You could get the car with the slightly smaller lights in the grill as they were also available as an option on the non GTi cars. Yep I’m old enough to remember these coming out and wrongly being called the first hot hatch, it wasn’t. Renault 5 beat it.

My Mk1 GTI from years back was bullet proof, apart from one area which never seems to get mentioned, the engine bulkhead where the clutch cable passes through, they used to split and I had to have a metal patch put in, apparently this is a common fault.
Similar issues with a couple of Saab convertibles I've owned but there was/is an aftermarket repair available
Yeah scirocco,s did it as well there was a modification you could buy to strengthen the bulkhead
One day someone will convert all of Al's Sprinters back to original. Wrong motor, wrong cab too long body....
