I’m from UP, but have been living in Gujarat for the past 20 years. It’s not just the less wealthy people who want to move abroad, even the filthy rich are going out in droves. I personally know a multimillionaire family who moved to Australia 3 years ago and are running a departmental store there. They used to drive around in chauffeur driven Bentleys over here. It’s like you haven’t succeeded in life you haven’t moved abroad. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing there. Moving abroad means that you’ve made it. They even print what country the whole family is living in on their wedding invitations. It’s crazy.

The main reason for the craze of going abroad is social status. I am an experienced software engineer working in a FAANG/Big Tech company in Bangalore. I am earning well, living comfortably in India and have no intension for going abroad. However, my in-laws and relatives keep talking about how their sons, daughters and society people have moved abroad and living "high status" "high quality" life etc. They see me as a big failure for not able to go abroad. Sometimes, I also feel like taking internal transfer from my company and moving abroad.

Am a Non-Gujarati living in Gujarat, and the urge to settle in the West is damn high around me .. Its the ultimate definition of success for them. One reason for this is it allows their families in India to boast about their unknown achievements. When living in India, it is hard to hide the truth about your life, but once they move out, they can easily create a fake image. These people often return to India with changed accents but no knowledge of basic grammar. A friend of mine wanted to settle abroad and got engaged to a guy working in the states. She broke off the engagement after finding out that he planned to move back to India to take care of his family in old age. I hear such desperate cases daily. Not an exaggeration!

A lot if patels own stores and motels in usa till early 2000 they used to call their relatives for help through legal means. These relatives would work for free for 10-15 years and then get the motel or store as the original owner expands or gets old.
Us saw this and realised that patels have lower costs and thus have monopoly over the motels and retail store. Thus they made it harder for people to get visas.
So now patels go live in usa illegally and work at their relatives motels and stay hidden waiting for their asylum applications and citizenship. Its still faster that the h1b route

Pretty sure the US didn’t change their immigration status because of the Patels. US hotel business is massive, probably the most valuable hotel market in the world. It’s too big for one hotel chain to affect anything, and either way it’s a small part of the overall economy so no one would make policy changes because of it
There’s lots of much bigger hotel chains in the US like the Marriott, Hilton, or even Trump hotels

That's True, I am from Gujarat. I come from Patel Family. However, The large number of people from our community move to Abroad for high standard living & better life for their family. Also Marriage is one the reason for youngsters to move But, this is just around 20% to 30%. Main reason is that this trend started from past decade where people started going abroad & they also suggested to their other family members for good living mainly youngers & when they reach abroad they can bring their parents & like that we can make family & community in abroad too. If I say Personally, Despite the Large number of lands, stores, and property's that my father owns here in Gujarat. but still My family wants me to move to abroad for my future.
The main reason why our family request us it's because Patel's community falls under open category & because of that we don't get Anamat. even if we have good marks we are not eligible to apply for government jobs & all seats for open category people can be filled by non open category and because of that we don't get any desirable jobs. My sibling sister got 86% in one of the government exams but still she didn't got the job. On the other hand, those who just got 60 or 70% from non open category they are eligible because of the Anamat.

They never pay their full taxes, they are into black money and money laundering, and they lie through their teeth and they ares imply dishonest. The irony is that they then go to the temple, and do all the religious rituals showing how pious they are. I belong to the Patidar or popularly called as the Patel Community from Gujarat. Yess, Patels were land owners and were into agriculture in the past. But these days most patels have left agriculture and are in to diamond, textile and other businesses.
The prevalence of this trend among patidars is more due to the social status and fomo within the adults and less of dec land or marriage issues.

They narrated me their story and struggled they faced after spending 17-20 lakh each for illegal migration through some route in Belarus and Poland. The way they mentioned seems horrible as they’ve to go through life threatening situations in forest and even walked through deadliest glaciers and had to live without food for many days. Now, they were working in restaurant and stills breaking lot of metro rules and even others as they don’t have money to live properly and peacefully. Still they were hopeful to get some good job and eventually citizenship.

Honestly, moving and settling abroad is overrated. Now before y’all say anything, hold your jets. I’ve been in Europe for over 2.5 years and I can’t wait to go back to India because life in India is just easier and less expensive. There’s nothing in the west that India doesn’t have. Like some people mentioned it’s because of the presumed social status. I’m not saying don’t go abroad and establish a living there. But it shouldn’t be because of desperation and definitely not illegally. It’s not worth it. If you feel adventurous then go do skydiving or on a solo trip. But going to another country illegally out of desperation isn’t an adventure, it’s just stupidity. Every year so many people die trying to move to the USA through Canada. For what? Not to mention India’s high Purchasing Power Parity might even help you save up money which can later be used for something you’d like or to have a better standard of living.

hi nice video, but at 6:19 you were going to say that why people are taking illegal routes but then the conclusion was to get more marriage proposals ? it would be better to say 1st - that there are legal routes existing in terms of study opportunities but not everyone in India can afford them so paying smugglers is definitely wrong but they think its cheaper than studying abroad,, 2nd - you can go for job or work abroad but that cant happen without any skills and also those skills should be in demand in that country ( i don't mean bunch of degrees here) ,, so in conclusion people think this is quick and short way but they fail to realize that any country will not grant them full citizen rights when the basis of entering is wrong and it would be hard to find work and even if you did you would be paid very less which is worse than living in your own country.

Kinda true with marathis as well, one of my friends applied for the study visa and they needed to show their minimum bank balance which was way higher, so they mortgaged their house for the amount and sent him to study legally. Now, he's working there on work visa and is making sure his loan gets paid. Total legality.

The Hindus who once live in Christian majority countries, never disrespect Christians!! Because they understood, Christians are actually very good people. That's why lakhs of Hindus are leaving India and settling in Christian majority countries

This comment is hilarious you talk just like typical Northie who thinks and live only for religion and caste. Most of the west have moved away from religious thinking. They don't see you as Hindu they just see you as an Asian who have come to earn a living because his/her life is pathetic from where they come from.
But same people like you despise and hate Christian community living within India. You call them different names and spew hatred towards them.
Come out of your religious and caste based thinking then start building your society around progress and start seeing people around you as human rather than categorizing them into religion and caste.

Almost all christian majority countries are now 50% atheistic societies. Religion is unimportant and irrelevant for a better life in this century. We Indians should understand this. The next step of human evolution is the self realisation/awareness that religion is a tool of opression.

Two common things i found from the video, in the comments and from experiences for people want to go to abroad is,
    1. Social status
    2. Marriage
Parents feel proud if their kid goes to abroad. You get lot of respect in your family and friends circle, if you are in abroad and talk about abroad issues being there.
Marriage, People want to give their daughter to only person who is working in abroad, i don't understand why, maybe again the same above reason?
Two biggest problems in our society I have seen apaart from above reasons,
    1. No respect to the work we do, whether others don't respect or we ourselves don't respect comparing others. Example, I'm from Telangana, here i stopped seeing native carpenters, barbers, farm workers, restaurant workers, mostly from UP, Bihar, Odisha. Native people either migrating to Middle east and other countries, brokers (real estate , RTA, Land registration) or they are working under some local politicians.
    2. Political scenarios. We have very worst politicians in the world, e.g. wrestlers vs. its federation. This is small example. If we go against a politician, our society brand us like a loser. So, most people try go abroad to avoid this society and people.
