It is devastating. And, also having lived in that neighborhood.....not everyone is rich.....and whether you are rich or not, this is a horrific time for so many people. LA is suffering for sure.
I live in western Oregon, where we are in our rainy season. Some ask how do I stand it and I always respond, we're going to need every single drop to avoid having fires decimate this place. I have a good friend I've known for most of my life, who had to evacuate her home. Thankfully she, her husband, daughter, grandchildren, and pets found shelter in Santa Barbara.
I'm from the Eugene area and live in SW Washington and I always try to give people perspective when they complain about the rain. It can be frustrating when April comes around and you're desperate to get outside yet it still rains everyday, but it's preferable to drought 100%.
In California we did receive record rainfall this past winter and spring, but the problem was that it resulted in a LOT of vegetation that ultimately dried out from extreme heat this summer and no rain this fall. Excess dried out vegetation/fire fuel, lack of seasonal rain, and hurricane-force winds were the perfect recipe for disaster here.
Any one who disparages this fire in any way has to realize that it affects all people living in the area. My son is there as a student just 8 miles away from the Hollywood fire. Not only is he still near the danger zone but his job has been affected. His primary job has been delivering for the various apps. They are now down. Many business that burned will also see their employees without jobs. So unless you can respond in a positive and heartfelt manner one should keep still .
People focus too much on the “Hollywood” of the area. They don’t realize that the vast majority of residents are regular everyday folk. Know some California Forest fire fighters they work their tails off to control fires. Some are sucessful other not so much. Those who lost everything will have to fight with insurance We live in Florida and insurance companies have pulled out and left people with nothing.
I’m hoping that when they say. I’ve not seen “anything like it”, they mean LA. Why is MAUI not a model to learn from? Folks burn in their car! Why can’t we dump water prior to this forecast? Would it make a difference?
The LA City Fire Department was assessing the impact of a $17.8-million budget reduction in the weeks before the Palisades Fire. Mayer Karen Bass & Governor Gavin Newsome are responsible for not having our state ready to handle fires. 80% of firefighting / management is done before a fire. Nations with large forest areas implement various strategies to prevent fires, including forest management practices like controlled burning (prescribed burns), tree thinning, proper tree spacing, planting fire-resistant species, removing underbrush, monitoring for pests, and educating the public about fire safety to minimize fuel loads and reduce the risk of large-scale wildfires.
I have a question. This happens every single year and every year you know its coming. 1. How are you sooo unprepared for it. 2. Why isn't there multiple plans for when this happens.
To answer your question, it’s very difficult to prepare for these types of erratic disasters. As someone who lives in LA now, but who spent 20 years in Florida, where you can expect hurricanes every single year as well, there’s only so much you can prepare for. The night all of this started, the winds were ranging at 100 mph, which was unprecedented and worse than any hurricane I’ve ever lived through. Even if we had all the water in the world, the rate of which these fires were being spread was exponential, as the winds were blowing embers everywhere very quickly, setting ablaze literally hundreds of acres within an hour. Is there more that can be done? Of course, always. Just as there is anywhere in this country. But I do have to give a lot of credit to the first responders, the firefighters, and especially all the people in these areas who took the evacuation notices seriously, which is the reason why the death toll is so tremendously small compared to the vast amount of damage that was caused. Literally thousands of buildings and homes destroyed overnight, with less than 10 deaths. And I think everyone living in these areas deserves a huge shout out for taking this seriously, and doing everything they can to preserve their own lives and the lives of their neighbors. The amount of people last night that had to flee these evacuation zones, and thankfully did, combined with the amount of people in safe zones who housed all these people overnight, combined with all of the firefighters and first responders who have been going at this for three days straight- they all deserve credit for doing everything they can to prevent this situation from being far far much worse than it could’ve been.
@@CL12356 WRONG. Santa Ana winds happen all year long in So Cal. Fires happen every year in So Cal. Nobody is doing anything to mitigate these fires. It looks like Gaza.
6:40 he coincidentally lost his aunts house - can hear that collective sigh from the view squad
Know some California Forest fire fighters they work their tails off to control fires. Some are sucessful other not so much. Those who lost everything will have to fight with insurance We live in Florida and insurance companies have pulled out and left people with nothing.
😢
This is insane
I wish the firefighters had more water and that they stay safe

Palisades is LA County EMS, not part of LA city.
is it one of there only home or one of many?
Put your mask on dude the air quality is like cancerous
Surprised that this channel could put out a single story with any honesty!!
Gutted for the Gutman household.
It's not the Firefighters fault, it's the politicians that have put them/us in this situation by not clearing dead brush and reducing water supplies. You're just another tone deft lefty..
Ask Tornado, Hurricane or Blizzard states why theyre still unprepared.. silly commentor
There is a big difference. No actions and 0 preparedness. No mitigation whatsoever.
