Yes, but in the wild they move from area to area within their territory but being in this enclosed area they put a lot of stress on their limited environment. That poor little tree will not withstand their constant aggressive abuse. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they have a natural environment to live and play in and is beneficial to their development. I just feel bad for that tree.
@@bert-qu3iq It's not perfect. But nowadays in the wild (except in very protected nature parks, if this exist) they are hunted by... humans.... A very green space in a zoo with a bigger park in their direct environment would be much better. The zoo do all what they can to comfort them as much as possible... Bigger and stronger trees could be a solution...
@@bert-qu3iq See this is where we will disagree. Having worked in this field with 23 primates, including western lowland gorillas, the more the room, the more stress for the silverback, especially with a harem and infants/young juveniles in tow. He has to keep a close watch on his family. In the wild he has to make sure they try to avoid rival harems, have to look out for other species, and worry about human/poachers. Gorillas acclimate pretty well and since D'jeeco, Tayari and Iriki were born in captivity, they're spoiled and very content with what they have.
@@tracey9116 Thank you, but I wasn't referring to the stress the environment puts on the individuals, I was referring to the stress the individuals place on their surroundings when they haven't the opportunity to move from location to location. All l was saying was that in the limited area afforded by this zoo (and others) to its occupants, the local vegetation is bound to be overwhelmed by a growing family. This is why many of the trees are electric fenced; to prevent them from being decimated the gorillas. Hence my original comment, "poor little tree."
