One of my favorite things about this channel is the bonus content. Like I knew I was about to learn about composting but the watermelon harvest was such a good addition. Keep it up, you guys are one of my favorite channels 💯
Excellent vid again showing me something I didn't know. Shortened intro is better for people with short attention spans. Nice hat change also. Keep up the good work 👍
I have been doing that for some time and was embarrassed to tell anyone! My friends have bins. I decided to skip bins. Thanks for confirming my practice!
Same here. I've been doing this for one year. It is very obvious, in my garden, as to where I have directly buried food scraps vs where I have not. Black gold where I have. And hard as a rock where I still need to bury food scraps :)
Thank you Fam!!!! You should compost right under your plants. We bury fish under some of our watermelon plants. Thank you for stopping by and watching!!!💚🌱
04:59 Funny, I was thinking is that a Prop watermelon 🍉 when I saw the other one looking pretty in the garden. I don't like 🍉 but these look so cool. I'd never heard of Sugar Baby melons 🍈 before.
03:53 🍈 looks like u sat there as a prop, so when u joked about prop melon I had to write. First day watching your vids. I'm sending folks pics of screenshots. Enjoying. Subbed

Crimson Sweet is my favorite watermelon variety, but I also grew the seeds from a Crimson Sweet that made a hybrid with sugar baby! It was a good mix of sweetness and good texture. This year I have all sorts of “crimson baby” melons growing and am excited to see how they turn out.
Thank you sooo much Fam!!! That watermelon was sooo sweet and juicy. One of the best watermelons I’ve ever had. Thank you for stopping by and watching!!!💚🌱
You are so adorable ! I love your hat , your garden is beautiful , you must be south your soil looks like my daughters Texas soil , like a beach soil ! Anyway I do the same and I love doing this , I bury my food scrap everywhere I need to add fertilizer and help to loosen up the ground ! Keep the good work your watermelons looks so healthy !
Forgive what is probably a stupid question, but: do you have to do anything to deter critters - rats, raccoons, foxes, etc - from rooting around in your bins/piles/buried scraps? Thanks so much. Absolutely love your stuff :)
Tennessee red clay is also kinda loamy, not like your sandy soil. Did you add this sand? Or, is just sandy? Soil needs organic matter, quickly...Loved the video
This should improve the soil nicely. I made a similar video nearly 3 years ago where I buried my garden waste hedge cuttings, quite relaxing with the birds singing :)
We live in a rural area, and we’re worried about attracting predators. Instead of burying scraps whole, I’ve been putting them in a blender, and dumping the “soup” in the garden. Will that be ass effective as burying whole scraps?
@@theprolificfamilystead I don't feed them, but now that I think about it, it only makes sense to feed melons. What do you feed your melons? Thank you in advance.
Do you have any videos or information on using cow manure in compost? I've read that we need to let it sit for around 6 months (maybe mixed with hay/grass clippings) to let all the ammonia get out of it.
What region of the country do you live in? I'm in the Intermountain West at an elevation of 4500 feet, and I've tried growing Sugar Baby more than once (because of our shorter growing season) without success. I also like the idea of burying scraps directly into the garden; it's what my dad has always done, but it can take some planning in the cold months here when the ground freezes.
This was not my year for watermelon. I've been growing sugar baby watermelons for 4 years now and like mine's was showing the yellow bottom and dry tindrill but when I went to pick them they were still white on the inside and the other ones I left just cracked and weren't even close to ripe. Must've planted way too late.
This man's got the best looking soil I've ever seen!
Thank you Fam!!! I wish we had the best soil. We still have a lot of work to do with our red clay. Thank you for stopping by and watching!!!💚🌱
@@theprolificfamilystead Well the composting seems to be working!
I found you on Reddit, instant fan :)

So can I bury food scraps in a large bucket of soil, then use that soil in a few weeks time?
Your videos are perfect man. Perfect length, good information. Keep them coming. Subscribed.
🌱🌾🌿🍃 we growing the same varieties. But we also tried Yellow Doll. But my Crimson and sugar baby tastes the best to me. Great video

You have to give me the secrets to growing sugar babies... For some reason mine grow so far then stop. What am I doing wrong?

You can conpost anything that was once alive like meat, milk, McDonald's and any other fast food

funny i do this all the time people think im silly for doing it i bury even eggshell and bones of chickens and after short time the all gone
Jealous of how soft your soil is! Can't dig much without a shovel
