For beginners it’s best to go with namecheap, if you are well versed then go with porkbun you will get everything cheaper and get lot of add ons for free , in long run porkbun makes sense. Personally I have domains in both namecheap and porkbun.

Useful review. Think PorkBun freebies (like WHOIS privacy, SSL certificate, etc.) is not free throughout the subscription period, but only for a short trial period only.

Do you have a link for this? I see nothing on porkbun's site indicating whois privacy is a trial.
