Thanks, Coach. It would be interesting to hear at what point in the four years of high school should a typical player start to reach out to their target list of colleges.
If I can add something on videos and recruiting. I recommend and did this with my son, once he got the video he wanted. He used the exact same video but saved them to separate links and wrote down the school and the exact link. That way we could go back and tell which schools actually looked at his video when we checked the views on youtube or another video site. Some looked at them, some did not. Some of the best feedback we got was creating a video with him facing well known draft able pitchers we actually put facing Joe Blow, 1st round draft pick that went to Notre Dame or So and so that signed with Detroit Tigers etc. We used the music from the start of your videos... OK I am just kidding we had no music at all, like you suggested. We had one school looked at his video more than a couple of times, still never heard back. Finally my son called the coach, and then he gave him a workout and an offer. If you are not a D-1 type guy it can't get really frustrating! Just have to keep working and when you email schools don't just go generic take some time to make it sound like you know that school their program and you really want to play there.
I’m starting to think it’s better to go to a college prospect camp for two days where it will be 5 to 10 schools there watching than get on a summer travel team that does these showcase tournaments. I only see a few recruiters there if I’m lucky.
Would it be more beneficial (going into junior year) to wait until the fall for a video? Playing legion but working out 6x per week trying to put on 3-5+ mph
Lol I didn’t get recruited by anyone despite having the 2nd best average on the team I top out at high 80s, I hit damn near .400 before playoffs. Unfortunately I didn’t put any effort out to be recruited nobody helped me I had no idea what to do. I wish I had help I had 1 coach recruit me I’m going to a first year community college.
Sam Konstan this is just for the start of the process. Coaches will soon see your work ethic if they come out to watch you. Weight room means nothing at this point
Hey Matt how can i get one of your hats? i love the logo and color. I really like your q and a's as well as yout hitting videos. i play in a mens baseball league your tips have really helped me at the plate thanks keep the vids coming
Jeff caver , you can do a lot at home 🏡, Push-ups, planks , free squats, and if you have access to stairs or hills around your home that’s great for speed , also soft sand running 🏃
What's should a sophomore in high school be doing to get better? Like what workouts would you recommend and other exercises to give themselves a better shot then other players?
It'd be interesting to know what the process is for international prospects. How they negotiate living and playing in the US, from college to the draft and beyond.
I got a hard question for my son. What do we do or what can we do to get my son play time on a team who is one of those good ole boy teams. He is a allstar catcher but he puts my son in center field. Thanks if you respond
Jake D’altrui depends. Do you have the money to retake it? I say this because there is Jr. and Sr. level material on the test. Most kids I know who took it their Soph. year did it for the experience so they’d know what to expect next time.
Great advice Matt. However, this method would not have worked for me 25 years ago even if video links were possible back then. Why??? My high school coaches did not allow such activity in seeking college recruiters to come and scout the players. I remember one incident in particular in which our starting second baseman (starter for 3 seasons) contacted a college coach to recruit him. The coach showed up as a surprise to our high school coach one game and introduced himself to our coach and discussed his reason for being there. Our coach benched our second baseman that game and the remainder of the season (about 10 games). Our coach elaborated that only he was allowed to call recruiters in for players. High school should have been our avenue and step into the next level. However, the high school coaches preferred to play politics for favors and most of the best players got screwed out of our chances at the next level. Have you heard of similar stories?
I've got a younger brother that was really good. His high school coach played at the same school and hated that anyone was better than him. He never even tried to get him looked at by scouts. I tried to get him to transfer to another school that always had scouts looking at their players, he wouldn't leave his friends.
How do you come up with a realistic list to send the list to? And when can the process start? A sophomore would not be able to be recruited just yet could he? Also do you include their 60 time?
When looking for a school with a son that plays baseball but is more "elite" academically. Is it possible to play at a higher level and work on higher level academics? Is that somthing a recruiter would care about. Is it possible in your opinion to balance both at college.
This is excellent advice just in general. I trade futures for a living and HOPE is definitely NOT a trading strategy! It should never ever be anybody's plan to accomplish any desired goal. Insert anti religious rant here...for any of them. all of them.
can you do a video on transferring from jucco to d1

Any lifts or drills I can do to create bat speed! Good video Matt!
Really wish I had this stuff in late 90s when I played
Thanks!!
This works the same way for football 👍🏼 3-4 minutes, your best plays.

Thanks!!! I never had any performance incentives in my contract unfortunately!
Oh lord, why did this post 100x.

Yes, I agree
You need to do an update video from Max. See how he's doing grinding in the minors.
100% agree.

Are you still there??? I had my high school tryouts there and isn’t far from me, It’d be great if I got to meet you
Away at another tournament now
i’m going into sophomore year and haven’t taken the sat or act, should i just say n/a?

Yes n/a works
Matt, Earl Weaver said you look at a player and rate him 4,4,4, and out. What are the three categories players are rated on?
Usually rated on speed, defense, arm, hitting, and power.

If I'm a catcher, about how many throws to each base should I include?
What's up Matt!? I just learned that you were an Ohio Warhawk too! Do you still keep in touch with Coach Slusher?
Yo! Yes talk to Slush every now and then. Great guy!
@@AntonelliBaseball Yeah he sure is! But it is upsetting to hear the news about Tyler Skaggs yesterday.

where do you send these videos?
How do you organize a standoff
hey Matt, are you with your 17U team in the WWBA here in the Atlanta area? My son is playing with his travel team here.
Yes I am!
Awesome! We might come watch y’all play tomorrow morning at Lakepoint. 😁
should you get clips during games or practice
Practice is fine. If you have game you can put it in though

A guy got a scollarship in 8th grade for college sports, so just include your age & grade.
Can l joining
Is there a specific year of high school that you should be making the video?
Nate Goodwin I suggest Junior year or summer before junior year of high school
Typically junior year

Yes can definitely balance both, but is easier for some kids than others.
is there an app that works really well to cut up a video?
I just use iMovie on my Mac.
How do you get the Email of the the college
Logan G they are listed on the college websites.

What if you play more than one position? Do you still try to make it quick and simple? Or just film the one you’re better at?
Matt Kaput film about a minute of all the positions you play, and then around 45 seconds to a minute of hitting.
Yeah just a few plays from each position you play.
Is their a certain age I need to make a recruiting video at?
I would say sophomore year of high school if you are very good. Junior year for most.
Wish I uh knew about this video 4 years ago
Thanks!!
How do I get recruited if my parents don't support it?
Joe Sindell you don’t need your parents to get recruited
Just make the video anyways and hope for the best
